Money maker!💸 The DT466 is one of the best diesel engines ever made, people stop me all the time and want to buy my '87 just for the engine. Sorry, but "Samantha" has 16k on the clock, too sweet to cut up!

I say it’s a “smokin” deal at $1800..! It is a bit rough underneath (rust), but hell, it goes down the road..! Air brakes are a “10”. My vote is to keep it intact.

The decal above the visor is a line setting ticket, it's vital to ordering parts for the truck. It doesn't look like it's legible. It pretty much is like the "birth record" of the truck as it was built.

That DT sounds nice Mike! 😀 I think it would be a nice engine donor as well. Plow trucks usually live a rough life so I can't blame you for parting it out. Air brakes are great but the white truck is in way better shape. Glad to see another upload my friend. Have fun, be safe and happy wrenching 🔧🔩

Mike I drove a IC school bus for years with the DT466 motor- very trouble free. It would be good in your bus. Depending on what they have it set at, the bus was set at about 280-300hp I did a lot of long haul trips with my bus, here in Idaho we have some 7% grades Never a power issue that bus weighed in loaded at 31,550 lbs Have fun Just watch your gauges since you can’t hear the motor with it being in the back . Have fun

BTW the "S" is for Springfield Ohio ... "S" series . Springfield Ohio was the location of the production facility. (Not Missouri) Greatest medium ever built. Fact of trivia. The "S" series introduced for 1978 replacing the Loadstar was the fastest selling new truck introduction of any truck ever. (medium/heavy) the S series saved IH from extinction. (BTW Navistar is now owned by VW. Part of its M.A.N. truck group) also as a trivia point IH continued the Loadstar even after the S production was well under way. The US Army wanted a batch of Loadstar's after production had ceased so IH did a run of Loadstar's after S production had started.

The yellow button is your parking brake. The other one to the left is supposed to be red, and thats your trailer parking brake. I noticed when you first did a couple laps you hit the wrong button and misdianosed it as being sticky brakes.

The non-electric DT is the way to go for the bus. Sell the max force, it'll be more reliable for sure. I'd part out some stuff and recoup some $. As for your other dump, keep what you're going to need from this one as spares. It is a decent truck but it'll take too much $ to make it roadworthy/ how you want it, plus the gain of some $, the engine for your swap, and parts you can use, is too good of a solution to not do it this way IMO

Good buy for 1800 , more value than you thought, but you cant beat a medium duty IHC engine in that era. I sold brand X diesels, and the IH was a better investment . Treat the cooling system, because wet liners will rust through .

Im not sure your plans for this dump truck but if you dont take the engine out then i think you have a good trucf get for a rebuild project i know its very expensive to do but that truck still has a lot of potential its in good shape that rust is not all that bad and it run good I bet if you went online you could find a set of tires for that from someone else who has a similar truck that's wrecked or junked same thing with the leaf springs those were a very common truck back in the 1980s so I'm sure there's still a lot of those around that are either still in use or people have that are sitting around if you went online and started asking around and looking around you may find what you need for Rather cheaper price than buying brand new tires and brand new leaf springs

Do you have your cdl? I think if I were in your position I would remove all the stuff you don't need on it like the sander and plow stuff then clean up the truck, degrease and pressure wash everything. Then you'll get some time working on the truck and getting a better idea of its condition (plus lots of good video content).

I’m guessing in your state they will let run a bus that had a emissions engine with a non emissions engine. If not sure you might want to check that first . Before our government got rid of emissions testing you couldn’t swap in a old engine in a diesel vehicle that had a newer emissions engine with all the junk on them . The engine had to be the same year as the vehicle manufacturer date and meet the emissions standards for that year
@caveone-3658 ай бұрын
Good point. The EPA dirtbags are cracking down on truckers in Kommiefornia and Oregon, that I know for sure. They're forcing companies that run rigs to outfit them with a drivetrain that includes all the unreliable and expensive emissions garbage or you cannot re-register the truck. It's insane and driving a lot of the smaller guys who can't afford the ridiculous amount of $ they expect them to drop on each truck. It's crazy. They need to focus elsewhere on the environment IMO.

I would not hesitate to make it parts as you have a solid rig over there to its right or your left considering how you point the camera. Switching out axles is not hard for someone who is a real mechanic. All new airlines which you know are the right way of doing things. Its all plastic now days and just too easy to not do it right. Those valves on the dash are leaking so just replace with new as they only get worse and rebuilding them just doesn't last... they are designed as throw away in the first place. I don't see your garage up yet and so are you going to stay working in the gravel or just get off of your butt and do something?? Hate to be hard on you but you are a procrastinator big time. When your lady left, you died inside just like I did except I crawled into a bottle of Jim Beam and stayed there for six long damn years before sobering up. Now that I am seventy four, that drinking has led me closer to the grave than just about anything could do. I'm no saint, just hoping you snap out of packing a lunch and going to work for the other guy and being miserable. At least try!!
@MustangCowboy.1Ай бұрын
Nothing better for an engine than a bunch of rat nest crap in the air cleaner to be sucked into the engine. Guess you should have checked that and all the fluids before attempting to start the engine.
