I listened to this song on my way home after saying goodbye to a girl who I was deeply in love with in my 5th year of highschool. It was about 1 am, we were the only two passengers left riding on the last train. Savouring our final moments together with her in my arms, her face snuggled into my neck. As her stop approached her breathing quickened, and I felt a wetness form on my neck which then flowed down onto my chest. She was crying. Her family had decided to move to another country and there was nothing either of us could do to change their decision. As the train came to a halt, we both momentarily freezed and stared into each other’s eyes. It was then that it finally hit me. We might never see each other again. Tears threatened at my eyes, but I held them back. She took my hand and we walked over to the exit doors of the train. As they opened she turned around, wrapped her arms over my shoulders and kissed me long and soft. It was the most passionate and most saddest kiss I had ever shared with anyone, and still to this day. When we finally pulled away, she touched my mouth with her fingers, stared into my eyes with tears rolling down her face, and left without a word. I had thought that she just couldn’t bring herself to say anything, but concluded that our kiss, meant more than words could ever say.

When I first heard this song I cried because I was like "people actually love each other like this?" (never been in a relationship) and it wasn't even the lyrics that got to me, it was just his voice, the rawness of it and complete vulnerability just tore my heart to pieces along with the sincerity of the emotions you could tell he was having. Still brings me to tears every single time.

The way this song is constructed/performed is just so perfect and professionally perceptive. Conor starts off with a somewhat muted, held back jazz affectation (very Winehouse-esque) which sounds beautiful on its own, even before he goes into falsetto, but all the time you know that he's pacing this just so precisely, with the listener holding out for a powerful push of his voice in full force, within his natural range, pushing into those higher notes...and then it comes, with a bridge that almost hits climax point as he pulls back, ever so briefly, lilting calm before the great big finish with that slight primal howl at the high note. Stunningly performed, with the perfect mixture of delicacy, pathos, trepidation and power. Melodically echoing Radiohead and then Conor sounds like he's channelling (the amazing) George Michael in those powerful parts. An absolute masterclass in an artist knowing how to employ control & restraint alongside wide, open power vocals to the best effect. Puts the hairs up the back of my neck every time. 10/10 would cry again.

I hear a LOT of Jeff Buckley influence in his voice, especially through the fast vibrato. The balance between super tender moments and raw rock emotion is perfect, so much control and he makes it sound way too easy.
@bad-girlbex3791
@bad-girlbex3791 9 ай бұрын
@@callumrowe6642 You're so right and I can't believe I didn't notice that myself. The way Conor paces his breathing to move seamlessly (sometimes breathily) does have that same power/tenderness balance that was really noticeable in Buckley's live album recorded at Sin-é. When you feel yourself holding your own breath in anticipation of how either Conor or Jeff would move from one phrase to the next...having us in the palm of their hand, waiting? That command of presence can't be faked. Pure artistic intuition honed by a well-practiced craft. Thanks for reminding me of the Buckley echoes. 👍

i honestly adore this so much. to me, it speaks so viscerally of desperation and despair, as if he knows departure is inevitable but he’s trying everything to stop it even though he knows it’s too late; he’s offering everything he has even though he knows it’s not enough, that he’s not enough.

I’m back here again. I can’t get enough of this song. This week has been especially nostalgic for me because I discovered that as I prepare to go off for college, the one boy I always loved is choosing to go far away, across the country. I doubt he’ll ever talk to me again after we graduate. That rips at me so hard. I’ve never told him how much I adore him, how much I wish I could hold his hand just once, how much I want to be a part in his vision of this beautiful world. I am writing a letter and giving it to him on the day of graduation. I am going to include a QR code that leads to this song at the end of the letter. It’s the only thing that I believe can truly express how my heart feels and wanders. This song will always mean a lot to me and symbolize what it means to love someone to the point where you know no other soul on this planet will be quite the same.

Thanks for sharing that. Old souls like yours and mine are plenty but I know it seems to be your world right now but don't let it consume your heart there still a whole big world to discover and broke hearts can't see the beautiful things in life when hurt so purely as this. And everybody is going to hurt us sooner or later it's just looking for the ones that are worth getting hurt for... that's the big decision in life that can pad a life full of glorious things.

I cried to someone I loved with this song the day we broke up. I was randomly listening to sad songs as I was getting that feeling off my system... I remember that this particular song hit hard, it made me think of those beautiful moments that we shared together. It was a tough moment but it also helped me heal and close that wound. Love is beautiful and love hurts sometimes, it is worth it to feel... Love has been one of the greatest teachers in my life.

+Malika Staley ConorBuckleyHoon I heard ITCH and instantly figured this man Conor grew up listening to Buckley and Matt Bellamy. I don't know if anyone else noticed but he also tilts his head while singing exactly the way Buckley would do. That is something I really appreciate. He has got his style but his not copying him. What a fookin band.

Sam Manuel I noticed the head tilt too...Yes the vocalist for sure, I can't remember who else And at one time just said 'the band" which is fine with me, I love the non copycat style if those two bands, they took it and put their own original sound with it and it sounds GREAT, I'm thinking why such low numbers when I have been complaining and others complaining of vocalist with no talent , I show them this kid, and I think we'll brains must NOT BE STUCK in the 90s..but stuck on the vocalist who are not with us anymore..lol I was stuck in the 90s but waiting for someone like NBT vocalist.. they just wanna complain.. Conor is an extremely talented vocalist! Match or beat some 90s vocalist for sure

Only two other songs have brought me to tears in my life, Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah and Lilac Wine. This has been the third. What beautiful melody and words. And my God, what a glorious voice this kid has. If by any chance, you ever read this, take care of that voice, it was given to you so you could share it with others for many years to come. You have no idea how much it touches someone else's soul.

If I was told I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life it would be easy (quite a claim for someone with six decades of music exposure). It would’ve these guys. This is one of those bands where live you feel their presence and energy poured into every note, especially during this song and Emergency. NBT is just captivating. Please go see them if you get the chance. All the members are really sweet in person and the opportunity to feel that magic is something you wont regret.

This songs makes me just cry out loud and see how people always want to help others except for themselves. It makes me cry because Im one of these people. Connors voice is just so real and emotional, I wish I'd found this music earlier. It's hard to admit that not only others but also you are allowed to get help. Everyday Im struggling with this fact. But even though my thoughts tell me not to get help, doesn't mean I listen to these thoughts. Music like this helpes, and I won't let anyone or anything take that away from me. Please, stay strong everyone♡

I don't have a Lover, never had a girlfriend. But everytime I listen to this, my heart feels heavy, breath shortens, vision blurs, as if I'm losing someone. His voice has that kind of power. She and I connected like I’ve never with anyone else and probably won’t ever again. She was my first kiss, and my first love.
