For my entire adult life, I was 100% certain that this film was a nightmare I had as a kid. Up until now, I had no idea it was real. I mean, how could it be? It's just as weird and random as the nightmares you have as a kid. I feel like I've been living a lie. Holy shit.

I was the Production Designer on this film, and I can tell you, it was the most fun I’ve ever had on a film. Dan Is the coolest guy to work for ever.

Believe it or not, this movie is loosely based on one of Dan Ackroyd's real life experiences. He claims that he was pulled over for speeding late one night in the middle of nowhere. Instead of handing him a ticket, the cop insisted Dan follow him through the woods to an isloated, creepy old mansion. Once inside, the cop introduced him to "the Judge", an extremely odd and eccentric older lady, who kept Dan there for hours and hours just to talk to him, before finally letting him go. This film is downright Lovecraftian. It’s impossible to look upon Nothing But Trouble without descending into utter madness.

I remember watching and loving this movie at the age of 7. It probably had some lasting effects that I wouldn't recommend.

You know what I love about that Dan Akroyd Larry King quote: "I don't think we will ever have a formal relationship with any alien species out there. Especially after 9/11" His character Ray Stantz from Ghostbusters would say that exact sentence, and it'd be totally in character.

He is right about it being a horror concept. This movie scared the shit out of me as a kid.

My friend's parents were big fans of Chevy Chase when I was a kid, so they took us to see this on opening night. I had never heard them cuss until walking out of that. That five minute exchange while driving home was funnier than this movie.

The town is based on a real town in Pennsylvania called Centralia, it is also the inspiration for Silent Hill in the live action film

When I was a young boy I remember seeing a movie with Tupac dancing with two giant diaper babies. Seeing this brought back those horrid images.. 10/10

I dunno about phoning it in, Chevy Chase's silent breathless scream when the Judge takes his nose off is pretty awesome.

This movie was probably so poorly received because Dan Akroyd made for himself and no one else. It's so esoteric and uniquely Dan Akroyd that it would be inaccessible to most people.

I saw this movie as a very young child, and I genuinely thought for many years that it was just a messed up nightmare. Until I stumbled across it later in life and was completely baffled that it was a real thing that actually happened

Nothing but Trouble is totally one of those late night HBO movies you forget about and then remember a hint of it 10 years later and think it didn't actually exist, but was like a dream or something. Then when you actually come across it again you think "What the fuck? That was REAL? Someone REALLY made this?" Out on a Limb is another one of those movies.

I refused to eat any kind of hot dog or sausage for about 5 years after first watching this movie. That dinner scene was as bittersweet as it gets. The coolest table and condiment set up ever created, all used for the psychologically damaging, inexplicably creepy eating of a bunch of hot dogs or sausages or whatever the hell they were. Someone could recut this movie as a straight horror movie and I'm sure it would be effective.

Speaking of Tupac, when it comes to Dan Aykroyd directing, I guess he said it best. "No one man should have all that power".

My mom rented this once when I was a kid. I don't think either of us was prepared for the ride we received.

I watched this when I was WAY too young and it left a big impression on me. Can't say it is good, but for someone young who didn't fully understand storylines yet, it was quite an experience that I still hold dear in some strange way.

I think the german title is much more fitting, Valkenvania - Die wunderbare Welt des Wahnsinns (Valkenvania - The Wonderful World of Madness)

I know I've watched this movie as a child back near its release, but I had forgotten every single aspect of it since then. Thank you for allowing the trauma to resurface now that I am a grown man.

You hit the nail on the head about Danny! Ghostbusters was originally going to be about catching ghosts throughout time and space! Yes, GHOSTS ON OTHER PLANETS.

I remember seeing part of this on tv as a kid in the mid-90s. My parents and relatives had it on and they knew it wasn't appropriate for me to watch but the movie only had another 30-45 minutes so they had me go read some books and play with toys instead. I was at my grandparents house so the books there were new to me too, one was this giant book about the history of Mexican art, a lot of which was heavy on macabre imagery, especially Francisco Goitia and José Guadalupe Posada . (I was relived when I stumbled upon the colorful work of Frida Kahlo toward the end of the book) What I did see of the movie was so bizarre and I didn't recognize anyone at the time, so I struggled for years to figure out what it was. After awhile I wondered it was a fever dream I retroactively assumed was a movie, especially since in that same couple hours I had visually devoured a lot of surreal artwork. It wasn't another 15 years before I came across this. I haven't watched the whole film since but what I have seen is interesting, it's a bit less strange than I expected but still very, very weird for something that isn't a more artsy indie flick - especially considering the cast and budget.

Fuck I remember renting this on VHS. It's like a comedic Texas Chainsaw Massacre or something with this bizarre family of freaks.

I know they’re mostly joking with the tcm comparison but after rewatching it recently I’m CONVINCED that Dan Aykroyd saw the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and then tried to make a wacky Goonies movie out of it

So many Kafka allusions (deliberate or not) in this film. The mansion/'The Castle'; crime, bureaucracy and disproportionate punishment/'The Trial'; watermelon chopping machine/'In the Penal Colony'.

I have to admit, I love the gadgetry in this movie. The mansion is the real star of the movie.

I had never heard of this movie until my friend told me the entire plot over lunch. It was the most confusing thing I've ever heard of. He put huge emphasis on the "bone stripper" and the sausage train. Thankfully walmart had it for 5 bucks. I was not disappointed.

Dan Ackroyd is an absolute mentalist. He essentially is his character from Ghostbusters when interviewed. This film is the work of absolute insanity. It's worth seeing just to see how truly out there it really is. They wouldn't have the balls to make anything this mental these days.

The musical number cemented it. It's the first live action scooby doo.

Holy fucking shit. I could make a childhood trauma video about this. Taking off the nose and the bone stripper ride scared me so much as a kid that I totally repressed the memories of it until I saw this video. My god.

I remember watching this on cable back in the 1990s, it didn't make sense as a 12 year old boy, and still doesn't make sense as a 39 year old.

The movie was produced to be R rated, one of the biggest reasons the plot has so many holes and oddities is because the studio left a ton of good stuff on the cutting room floor to get it down to PG-13. Supposedly the film as it was originally intended explained the characters far better and really played up the comedy by means of cartoonish violence and antics.

I saw it in the theater, and the only reason I bought a copy of the movie was for the two performances of Digital Underground. (Humpty Hump died today :( )

Oh my God, I've been looking for this movie for other twenty five years, no joke. I remember watching this on TV in the early 1990's. I was probably about eight or nine at the time. I only remember part's of the movie like the insain house, the junk yard and the ending with the mutants and a train or something. I only remember little bit's of this movie but for some reason it always stuck with me. I thought many time's I found the film like with the crazy house in The People Under The Stairs and the mutants with the movie Freaks but I knew they wasn't the movie I was looking for. At the beginning of this video with a scene of the huge, mutant babies and a junk yard my first reaction was "this is it!!!"

Look up the music video for that Digital Underground song. Not only does Dan Aykroyd cameo in the video, but he is seen standing next to Dr. Dre and Eazy-E while dressed as a member of NWA. He’s not in blackface, thankfully. And the sad thing is that for all of the passion and creativity Dan Aykroyd poured into this movie, he refuses to talk about it these days. There was a movie critic who was interviewing him for an oral history of GHOSTBUSTERS, and the interview went so well that the critic asked him if he’d ever be up to participating in an oral history of another film of his. Aykroyd cheerfully asked “What film would that be?” The critic answered it was NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, because he wanted to find out how this weird ass movie came to be. Aykroyd dropped the cordial tone and interrupted the critic before he finished the question: “That would be a terrible waste of time, I think we’re done, thank you.” Then Aykroyd immediately hung up the phone. End of conversation. Update 2023: On the Blu-ray features for Nothing But Trouble, Aykroyd says he's actually proud of the movie and its cult following, so there's now a touching sidenote to this story.

Stumbled across this movie a long, long time ago when it was on HBO (Showtime?). I was mesmerized and I believe it made me rethink the nature of our being. Life was never the same. Honestly, I was so damn confused.

I just realised that I've been confusing this film with "The Hills have Eyes" for a few years now. for some reason "nothing but trouble" was filed in my brain as "the hills have eyes"

I saw this movie once on basic cable in the mid-90s and I never forgot it because of how aggressively weird, mean, and awful it was.

I remember trying to explain this movie to people growing up. It was so bizarre that I could never do it justice. Finally found it at Target for $5.00 on DVD. They didn’t even give it a plastic case. Even after now being able to show people this. I cannot do it justice. They’re right. You just have to watch it.

I randomly came across this movie flipping channels in a hotel with friends on a road trip. The show we were playing was shut down early, and we were in a highly altered state. If this movie wasn't weird enough already, it was on the next level that night.

When I heard Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, John Candy, and Demi Moore were going to be in a film together, I got so excited. When I finally got to watch it on cable I couldn't sit through the whole movie. I got about a third of the way through.

Probably the best ending to a Re:View so far.

Wait a second... Aykroyd wrote a Blues Brothers cinematic universe for the Blues Brothers? and the studios stopped him?... I would of loved to have seen a Donald the duck Dunne stand alone back story film... haha

Demi Moore was quite the looker.

As a kid watching this. It definitely was a horror movie and a depiction of hell or a nightmare that continues even after you wake up. The fact that the whole town were in on it breaking the brief illusion of safety and the end where the judge is looking into the camera broke my sheltered innocent mind.

My dad let me watch this when I was like 10 or 11. Think it left me permanently scarred. Would highly recommend it.

I SAW TUPAC AND I CLAPPED

I legitimately really like this movie idgaf. It’s partly nostalgia, but I didn’t see it till I was a young teenager, so it’s not like that childhood nostalgia thing before I had any idea whatsoever was crap, and/or I only watched because we only had a few VHS to choose from (I know I’m not the only person who had that experience and had their favs shaped by having almost no options). It’s just got too many things I like: it’s fantasy, sci-fi, slapstick, absurdist, and just had a certain atmosphere that many movies from that era have that I really love. The comparison to Goonies and Texas Chainsaw Massacre is literally perfect, I never put that shit together. Yeah, the script is absurd, it is dumb, it has it’s problems, it’s not a genius film, but it’s a lot of fun, and it’s funny af, and I love it.

I have loved this movie since I was a child. Seeing that you've re-viewed it has made my year.
