The experiment is to see if they will continue pressing the Shock button, even if they think it's hurting someone, as long as an authority figure (the scientist running the experiment) insists they must.

For the random loot/ crafting the eye of ender placement needs trig. Also when doing any personal stuff it is easier than using calculator app on computer

As a Chemical Engineer who had to take a lot of random Gen. Ed. classes in different subjects like the humanities, I can say, it did in fact benefit me and make me a more well-rounded, compassionate, and knowledgeable individual.

Agreed. My degree is in computer science (though I took two years towards a biomedical engineering degree before switching), and although I'm currently a software developer, I probably learned more important things in my elective psych, logic, and philosophy courses than in my comp sci courses. (That's not to say they're perfect -- philosophy especially has some BS in it, and I had a philosophy professor who docked my essay grade because he didn't understand my personal opinion.... but overall, it's useful.)
