CLIP DESCRIPTION:
William (Hugh Grant) realizes it must be hard on Anna (Julia Roberts) having her life in the spotlight for all to comment on.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Can a beautiful and internationally famous American actress find happiness with a frumpy British bookstore clerk? She can -- at least for a while, it seems -- in Notting Hill. William Thacker (played by Hugh Grant) is a bookseller at a shop in the Notting Hill district in West London, who shares a house with an eccentric Welsh friend, Spike (Rhys Ifans). One day, William is minding the store when in strolls Anna Scott (Julia Roberts), a lovely and well-known actress from the United States who is in London working on a film. She buys a book from William, and she is polite and charming in the way a famous actress would be with a star-struck sales clerk. Their relationship would logically end there, if William didn't run out a few minutes later to buy some juice. While dashing back to the shop, he bumps into Anna on the street, spilling juice all over her blouse. Since he lives nearby, William politely offers to let her stop by his house to clean up; since William seems harmless enough, Anna agrees. When Anna has to stop back to pick up a bag she left at William's house, they kiss -- just in time for Spike to show up. A romance slowly blooms as his friends and family (not to mention the world at large) wonder out loud what he's doing dating a movie star. Notting Hill reunites Hugh Grant with producer Duncan Kenworthy and screenwriter Richard Curtis, who previously worked together on the international hit Four Weddings And A Funeral.

Sanjeev Bhaskar said on some chat show that he, Dorian Lough and the other actors didn't like doing the scene. He said that they were uncomfortable about the innuendo even if it was acting and made a point of speaking to Julia Roberts about it beforehand.

Something like this happened to me recently, the film ‘The Greatest Showman’ had been out for a few weeks and my family and I were in a pub/bar in Soho London, we had just seen this play about Barnum in the Menier Chocolate Factory. Anyways we walk into this busy pub walk up to the bar order 5 pints and start talking about how the play compared to the film as I hadn’t seen the film yet, then once we got the drinks we were looking for a table/place to stand and low and behold there was a big table around 8 seats with three men sitting around it. One of the men got up and said then could join us, I could tell straight away my mother was awestruck. I was probably the last to notice that I was sitting next to Hugh Jackman! We got talking and he was a really nice guy, I never directly mentioned I was a fan, and as it was in Soho (very trendy place in London) it didn’t feel right to ask for a picture. So we talked for 20 minutes as a table and then when we all finished our drinks, he offered to buy the round for the table. I’ve never told anyone this as it’s so unbelievable. And that’s the story of how Wolverine bought me a pint 😂

That's insane! :) Thing is, events like yours and this clip do actually happen and people don't seem to believe them. Very few people seem to remember these days that, whilst it may have faded into the stuff of movies, celebrities *do* still go out with sunnies and a cap on to avoid the press and they *do* still talk to "us normals" rather than sticking in their tightly-knit little celebrity group.

jaywar69 Some critics said she couldn't act, in this film. I don't know what they were watching. She didn't have as much to do as Hugh Grant (and actresses usually don't), but what she needed to do, she went above and beyond. Her facial expressions, even when wearing a smile, was so spot on, and told so many stories.

Really? Wow! 😮 That’s interesting bc that’s totally the opposite of what’s said about her in Hollywood. I read that staff from the movies always complain she’s very demanding & arrogant with the people who works with her. Even some actresses have complained Julia is a complicated to work with as she doesnt talk to many people including her costars. Oh well, I guess she is nice but as everyone we all have shades. Still a wonderful actress to be fair.

@@carmenrivera6086 ''Demanding'' can mean many different things, maybe she just has high professional standards. Also not being very talkative or keeping to oneself does NOT make someone a bad or ''complicated''. Do you want to talk to everyone at your work? Why should she?

Having worked in London for over 40 years, I have seen many famous people around town. There's a very miserable looking actor I saw once, (who was in a comedy series on TV, can't remember his name) just browsing in a market and when I caught his eye I just nodded and smiled. I saw Robert Morley walking towards me in Temple, he turned his face away from me, which made me laugh because he faced a brick wall ! My sister bumped (literally while turning a corner) into Dean Martin just outside Claridges, Pete Murray was standing opposite me on a London Underground platform, and I gave him a big smile and nodded to acknowledge him and he smiled and nodded back. Adam Faith, who I absolutely was a screaming fan of, back in the day, came into a restaurant I was eating in, just a small place off Oxford Street, he walked in the door and Stopped, everybody turned to look as the door was flung open, then after about four seconds he walked in (after he had everyone's attention) followed by three bodyguards, a waiter came rushing up and seated him behind me. I was turned off by his arrogance, but boy was he still handsome many years after his hey-day. Tony Blackburn was walking up to a car and got in it - I was across the road at Tot Ct. Road Station.

P.S. I really think it’s important for people to know how ugly they are - that way they might keep their trap shut that little bit longer. But people could call me a prostitute or claim I'm "gagging for it" and I could happily say the same about others without regret. This is tame. And also, they named a park after me in Dublin - and for good reason. ;)
