I converted my 76 cj7 jeep manual drum brakes to power disc brakes (brake conversion kit off ebay) and a YJ booster and mc with proportion valve off a YJ wrangler. I had to lower the brake pedal as the piston rod was too long and didn't match up with the brake pedal. Problem is, I have soft brakes. If I pump the brakes, it gets harder and I eventually stop. Brakes are always the same. Soft until I pump. Then hardens up and I stop.. Scary.. Any idea what is wrong? Also~~Can I adjust the piston rod to shorten it so the pedal won't be so low and would that fix the soft pedal issue? Thanks for the video... Not only educational but also funny...

What brake booster system did you use? How did you solve the soft pedal? My pedal goes to the floor?

I had purchased it from Whitby as a part of the power brake kit they sell. I have had to replace the booster and I think it was from a '93 Mercury Villager. Soft pedal means there is still air in the system. I'm assuming you bench bled the master cylinder and that it's new. If your pedal goes to the floor still too much air or you have a considerable fluid leak somewhere.

@@BuildaCobra Why did you have to replace the booster? I bench bled the brakes, pressure tested the system held 15lb, then pressure bled the brakes...pedal still goes to floor

@@milesmaresch3877 My original booster became faulty after a couple of years. Not sure why your pedal still goes to the floor. Maybe the master is bad. Hope you're able to figure it out

Why don't you adjust the rod ?

exactly, i don't know what he is trying to do, the measurements should be taken from the mating surfaces.

Honestly. I just use a regular rular and eyeball it. It's only two bolts to move it and adjust again.
