In this video we talk a bit more about what I think happened to Katie’s Nova motor. I also do some fun bench racing to stir up some conversation. I hope you all are doing well in these hard times Instagram: Dickhamm

man. TH400s served me very well for years in demolition derby, but not running 11's in a demo car. they got smoking hot all the time, and just took it like a champ.

but a manual 6spd? heck yeah.

I'd love to keep some kind of OD in it, but who knows haha. th400 is bulletproof for sure

My only request is t56 in the nova but Sequential! If you’re going to do it, then do it big! Katie will enjoy it more in the long run haha. Get it up and running with whatever trans till you can complete the sequential.
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
That would be super cool lol! I agree on that man, a sequential t56 in anything is cool lol!!

The f body T56 with the 0.5:1 OD I had in the isuzu with 4.30 gears and 26in tires was a blast for roadtirps and thrashing in the mountains, especially up and down pikes peak. The fuel mileage was great too but the little things required for the t56 definitely added up lol. I had good luck with the super cheap LUK ls7 clutch kit, it survived alot of 4th gear clutch dumps at least lol. If you weren't worried about it being fast its a decent option but it slowed the isuzu down quite a bit at the drag strip. Also im pretty sure on those novas, (i know 68-72s for sure) you have to basically cut out the entire trans tunnel for a T56 to fit lol

Good info! I remember that set up in the truck, it was fckn cool. Yeah you have to cut a damn good chunk of floor out lol! What other little things? I’m curious. I’d have to get a pedal set, clutch reservoir, LS style bellhousing, clutch/flywheel, etc etc 🤔
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
So just go th400 and eventually do a single turbo lol 👀🤷♂️ this is my brain going back and forth all day

I really don't have an opinion on what to do for the Nova. But I'm definitely willing to follow along! 3G alternator upgrade is definitely a must on fox bodies. I got a brand new one for a SN95 back when I still worked for Napa auto parts. I cant remember what its called exactly, but there's a single wire plug that goes on the 3G alternator. I just cut the original plug for the fox body in half and shaved it down to fit on the pin. Worked mint. I might need to look into getting a junkyard volvo fan at some point. The 16" flex-a-lite struggles to keep the temp down in traffic. But I'm limited on space between the triple core rad and crank pulley for the Procharger.
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I just learned that a triple core causes a fitment issue with the mark viii the hard way! Lol I just stuck the clutch fan back on for now. I’ll re-engage at a later date. I have more amps tho lol

Those bearings look pretty good for oil problems. It’s not the first wrist pin I’ve seen torn from an Ls1 stock piston.

Yeah for sure! I’ve definitely gone back and forth, then felt like I was okay with thinking oil starved, and after everyone talking with me on here I’m back to idk 😂😂👏

Get a 4l80e and make it full manual shift! I'm building one to go in my 69 chevelle with BBC 468 l will run it at the track and still cruise the coast!
@andy3474954 жыл бұрын
I don't know if someone else has mentioned it or not, but... maybe it was a windage issue. i know that windage itself can cause a drop in oil pressure. If you haven't check out engine masters on the motortrend app. They do some good test. And, debunk/prove a lot of theories.
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
That was a cool episode! I did see that one. It just bothers me that I ruined that poor motor 🤦♂️ lol I guess that’s part of the game

Is do the t56 in the nova, that would be fun. As for molly I'd run a Lincoln mark 8 fan. They are a 2 speed also and flow 4400cfm on high. You would need to trim the shroud about a 1/2 in and done. I'm my old turbo car I ran a 3 core radiator and a 4in think intercooler. On high that fan held cardboard to the IC. Can't go wrong with it
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
That is good to hear man. I think I have one I will have to check. I know I have another volvo fan and I was considering trying to actually hide it inside the factory clutch fan shroud
@joeysullivan47204 жыл бұрын
I'd just stick with the mark8, you won't be disappointed.
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
Yeah so I found out mark vii and the aftermarket radiator I have don’t get along lol
@joeysullivan47204 жыл бұрын
@@DickHamm even if you trim the shroud down? You have to do that. I've heard the ford contour fans are good. I just dont have any experience with them to give you info lol

Look at the sparkplugs real close. I bet it was detonation.

Thinking about what you said and how you like to drive it, a good combination might be as low milage 6.0 you can find, mild cam and a 400. Practically bulletproof, if there is such a thing, oh and the rev-limiter set a 6,000.
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
Lol you know I like how they sound at 6,800 tho 👀😂👏 I’m the th400 isn’t a bad option at all, and I agree it’s bulletproof. If I do go the th400 route, it’s more likely the car would get a power added of some kind... 👀

I'm having a hard time believing it was lo oil press related when those bearings look that good. No oil and those are always going to take the hit first. With all those cylinders cracked like that, it looks like it hydro-locked. How was the oil when you drained it? Lots of fuel in it? I've not seen your prev video on it, but do you think the ignition quit while the injectors still fired. Stuck open injectors?
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s a valid point! The bearings on the mains look pretty good. The oil was contaminated with coolant/water from the cylinder walls being cracked I believe
@AOGDC104 жыл бұрын
@@DickHamm It's hard to tell from that video - your memory and that vid are your best data log of what exactly happened and in what order. "Smoke" appears after you're out of it, so I'm guessing that's when it hydrolocked, bent the rod and windowed the case. The pull starts at 11min 28sec kzfaq.info/get/bejne/irp4psKmzpyWhnU.html

I race mine with 1 qrt low of oil. Maybe the seal too the oil pump leaked causing loss of oil psi?
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
Damn man, maybe something else did go wrong. Cause you run a normal GTO pan too?
@shannonmedley40584 жыл бұрын
I'm not running the got pan tho. I run the gm muscle car pan. I was watching an episode of HOTROD s engine masters on motortrend on demand, where they tested different levels of oil vs hp. 1 qrt low makes more power. Another episode they ran different oilpans with different levels. And checked oil psi under w.o.t. , interestingly the engine lost some oil psi under w.o.t. with more oil due to cavitation. If u get a chance, checkout those episodes. I'm not up on the got pan having issues? But it may? Most LS have oil psi issues due to the pickup seal or the plug in the front of the block coming out and pumping the oil back to the pan or a bad cam bearing. Idk ? Just some ideas

T56 would be sweet! Mic sounds good too. We use a rode videomic and it has yet to disappoint 👍
@DickHamm4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I really want to use my cannon more, and possibly even move to a smaller frame Sony at some point when money allows. T56 has been on my mind for this car from the start! But it is unfortunately a pile of work! Like Blaine mentioned in another comment you have to basically cut out the tunnel and start over lol
@TheZaner54 жыл бұрын
Definitely would be a lot of work. We use the Sony a6300 as well as a a6000. Great mirrorless cameras. Biggest downsides are short battery life and they can overheat when shooting for a long time.
