As Darrell Mansfield said in an introduction to 1 of his songs, " rock n roll was here before Elvis and before Jerry Lee Lewis. It started 2000 years ago. When they laid Jesus in his tomb, He rose 3 days later and said to the rock that was blocking His tomb, rock i want you to roll out of my way. The rock has been rolling ever since." Of course he wad just leading up to his song but the rock rolled out of the way and rock n roll was born.

It was just the dominant fashion at the time. Clothes mean nothing, really. And, also, this type of music, or "rock and roll" was considered the devil's music that would lead children astray and into deliquency. Remove your rose-colored glasses, pastor, and just enjoy this music of the most popular genre in the world today.

+Edmund Vitale lol, keep sniffing glue - The music of that era was heavily influenced by money & pay to play. Payola hearings of that time testifing before congress, Clark would testify to holding an ownership stake in a total of 33 different record labels, distributors and manufacturers that all profited handsomely from the rise of Clark-anointed stars like Danny and the Juniors and Frankie Avalon.

He's my Grandfather. He passed away peacefully. His talent was on par with his love and guidance as my Granpop :) As far as my musical mentoring I received from him, one bit of advice he drilled into me (I'm paraphrasing): When you find that you have started to write a song your passionate about, let your ear guide you but KEEP IT SIMPLE!
@Gemma6thSense2 жыл бұрын
@@Conradaxx you were lucky to have such an amazing talent not only as a grandfather, but as a musical mentor!!! That is something that you can carry with you forever, of course you’d have memories either way, but he truly wrote some amazing songs!! He really really did! I’m not at all from the music of that era, but I have to say, I wish I had been. I’m glad I’m able to enjoy it now… what a different time it was… and it certainly seemed like a great one. I’m sure he taught you exceptionally well. And I’m very sorry for your loss. He will never be forgotten. His music will always play…. And people will always remember with a smile. 🙏🎵

My parents were teenagers then, but they raised this 70's/80's kid on the music of their youth, namely that of the 50's and 60's, and I prefer those than most of what we have now.

@@THECARS7879 I was born in 1985 and couldn't agree more. Everything was so much better during that time. The cars, music, women, the economy, mannerism and just life in general. Men were gentlemen and women were ladies. Most individuals had so much class during this time. It was a much more simplistic and overall better time to be alive. I would give anything to be able to live in those times. Today's times are quite depressing and it's only going to get worse, unfortunately.

"It's Still Rock And Roll To Me" What's the matter with the clothes I'm wearing? "Can't you tell that your tie's too wide?" Maybe I should buy some old tab collars? "Welcome back to the age of jive. Where have you been hidin' out lately, honey? You can't dress trashy till you spend a lot of money." Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me What's the matter with the car I'm driving? "Can't you tell that it's out of style?" Should I get a set of white wall tires? "Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile? Nowadays you can't be too sentimental Your best bet's a true baby blue Continental." Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk It's still rock and roll to me Oh, it doesn't matter what they say in the papers 'Cause it's always been the same old scene. There's a new band in town But you can't get the sound from a story in a magazine... Aimed at your average teen How about a pair of pink sidewinders And a bright orange pair of pants? "You could really be a Beau Brummel baby If you just give it half a chance. Don't waste your money on a new set of speakers, You get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers." Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways It's still rock and roll to me What's the matter with the crowd I'm seeing? "Don't you know that they're out of touch?" Should I try to be a straight 'A' student? "If you are then you think too much. Don't you know about the new fashion honey? All you need are looks and a whole lotta money." It's the next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways It's still rock and roll to me Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me - Billy Joel
