The Lyrics sing about fighting austrians and germans, and on the official Vilki (singing group) site its written that it is a Latvian riflemen song.

@@whosthisantichrist "You have been banished from the Motherland forever, Fight the Germans and the Austrians," That line should explain it, because WW1 was the only time the latvians where fighting agenst the germans and austrians.

This song about 1915 latviešu strelniekiem who where sent to fight in Carpathian area. My great grandfather was sent there to fight against Austrians and german units.
