So im currently taking the back end development bootcamp and im starting the last course which is devops. I have a lot of opinions which i feel could help the bootcamp make better developers. For one, data structures and algorithms should be its own bootcamp or at least a 4 werk course. Ppl learn the most hthru doing so challenges with the solutions handy was a blessing during sql course. Its not like that in pythong fundamentals course. Also i think that the weekly progress of your portfolio assignment shouldnt be locked out until you get to the week. Actually i dont think the courses should be locked out per week at all because i think you should reward ppl that can get ahead and not wait around

I'm currently taking the full stack course. About to finish with react native. Alot of good stuff mentioned here. I do know that they are moving to focus more on javascript over bootstrap so that will be nice for future classes. I second the advice of supplementing the learning with the courses they have. Just keep continuing to look for more knowledge outside of the class. Also if you get a great teacher use them to their full potential my current instructor is amazing and I've been picking his brain about resumes and job hunting which has been more insightful than the self instructed job hunting section they have

For those debating getting a 4 yr cs degree or going to a boot camp, Do you think you can do a video about CS Bachelors degree compared to a coding boot camp? Like maybe interview people who only did CS degree path and also people who have a CS Degrees but went to a coding boot camp after they had their degree?
@chrisE815

There is no comparison- the CS degree wins hands down, especially if you do not already have a 4 year degree. Go to a community college and take CS 1 & 2 and also do an online bootcamp (like Nucamp- not something that costs 20 grand).

It’s a good first bootcamp, but I think all boot camp are going to fail at have you job ready out of the gate, that requires lots of preparation that is hard to cover

So what I'm getting from a lot of reviews and these interviews is that Nucamp doesn't have good depth going into these topics? I'm new and completely fresh to the world of coding so it's hard to follow sometimes. But for me personally, if all bootcamps are essentially like this where everything feels rushed anyways, wouldn't this be the better option for a noobie like me to get started at since it's considerably cheaper?

these are my exact thoughts. Did you decide on a bootcamp? If so, do you mind sharing your experience so far?

@mjcoco I still haven't decided on a bootcamp yet so for now I'm self learning to prep myself for whatever path I decide to take in the near future. After doing some research though, I'm not sure if bootcamps are the way to go anymore because of how expensive they are and how ineffective they are at guaranteeing you a job out of graduation. However, that being said, Nucamp is an exception for me since it's so cheap so I'll see what I end up trying out!

FWIW, I have started and stopped both General Assemblys and App Academy's Software Engineering bootcamp. App academy being the most recent one. With both of those, the only differences are their branding and how the person teaches. Curriculum is pretty similar. As far as who is teaching, that's never guaranteed because each cohort have different assigned instructors. Some will take a little more time with the class or 1:1, but majority of them push you through content and have you figure it out on your own. App Academy literally has their own students teaching you. Most of them either never had a real software engineer job or worked at companies that no one knows about. May not always be a bad thing, it truly depends on the individual. But they definitely lack the level of experience you would hope for when dishing out $15k - $30k. Not to mention, they treat you as if you're a child. Their orientation on all of their rules is ridiculous. You can easily get strikes for anything or deferred if you fail any assessment. I was in their part-time class. I would think their full time is a little rougher on the rules but nope, same thing for folks who spend 8-9 hours working then straight to learning. So I withdrew from App Academy this week and enrolled into Nucamp. I haven't yet started but the thought of only paying $2k even if that person doesn't have much experience but I still get to connect with other learners pursuing the same path is a better deal then paying much more.

I should mention the only reason why I have even jumped into any of these is because I lack accountability doing it on my own. I have done freecodecamp and codeacademy for a while but can never get myself to the finish line. Whereas when I am being held accountable and/or have other people to work with - I am motivated.

I'm a Nucamp ambassador just starting, i also applied for a instructors position months ago with no reply. After some research and listening to these students I don't think Nucamp is very good at all. I wouldn't feel comfortable guiding anyone towards this program.
