To anyone who wants to become a nurse, don't go to school in California. Go to Florida and finish your ADN for 20k in 2 years. Take your nclex for Florida B.O.N then endorse it to California B.O.N. You will get the same RN license for 100k dollars cheaper. This is a life hack not everyone knows about.

I went to school in CA. I got my ADN at my local community college, with financial aid and scholarships, I didn't pay much at all. I worked for about a year or two, then went for my BSN also im CA. I worked and didn't need to take out a loan or anything, I don't remember if I got financial aid if I did probably not too much. No debt though. It can be done in CA.

@@monicawilson8075 Problem with community college is people are fighting for the same credits and classroom spots, sometimes you end up delaying because you have to be waitlisted. I tried doing it in las positas college and loss motivation so I did lvn private school first in fremont california, then went to rn school in florida while working as lvn full time. The pros of going to a private nursing college is convenience and time. Also it is designed to help you pass the nclex while in school rather than doing credits 1 by 1.

Becoming a nurse is a very rewarding job for the person who IS serious about Caring and Helping patients when they are in their most vulnerable state. The whole world needs very good and dedicated nurses who will treat the patient with absolute care. There are unfortunately many people who come into this profession just for the money and they don't care about the patient, as some mistreat the patient, and as we've seen in news reports, they actually take the patients life. Good information and we hope more good nurses appreciate the profession and not look at just the money aspect.

What a lot of home health nurses do once they get the hang of the work is get a fulltime HH job that pays hourly or salary, then get another per diem home health job that pays per visit. Exactly. You work 8-3 and then you are not paid and work for free doing the documentation at home. So take the time you don't get paid post visits into calculating your actual per hour rate. Basically in CA there’s overtime laws if you work over 8 hours a day, you get time and a half, so if you work 4 hours after the first 8 then those 4 are paid at 1.5x. He picks up hours on the days that he works. Also with his experience, his pay rate is over $86 an hour, and then at 1.5x that’s $129 an hour. So with 3 shifts a week he can work 28-32 hours a week and collect 1.5x pay on a third of that.

The downside is the long charting. It can be very long, particularly with wounds, however, once you get used to the Oasis, it’s faster. You will still be taking work home but it is 1,000 percent less stress and you are a resource for the patient and family once you get familiar with different services to help them. It is extremely rewarding. Love this vid. I typically alternate between travel ICU, HH and ER freestanding

I don't understand "getting used to the Oasis" Many ppl tell me they do the SOC in 1 hr, but I don't see how you can plan a through POC in 1 hr. I started HH out of school & over 10 years I only got slower as my assessment skill and understanding of medicare requirements grew. I see lots of "top" agency nurses visit 10 pts/day, dump time consuming wound pts on co-workers, and sit on months if incomplete documentation that is clearly fraudulent when they finally do it. I have never been able to DC one of these nurses' pt when I happen to cover for them - it's always a recert for 90% Dz process knowledge deficits. Maybe it's my ADHD, but I'm pretty sure anyone who can be a "FT" HH nurse in 40hr/wk MUST be negligent.

I would personally choose nursing because the job opportunities are endless. And, how many Chief Physician Assistant Officers do you know in a hospital setting? The answer: none. My story is similar to Monica left a well paying business job to become a hha in hopes of transferring into RN role took a month or two before I became a nurse. I work a few jobs in PA but weekend home health can clock in $1000 a day

To clarify weekend admissions to hhc nets about 150 a visit. I’ve done 9 admissions in one day. Depending on what you negotiate. You gotta be hungry

Seriously considering HH. Seems more sustainable in the long run v bedside or traveling.

I'm an RN in PA as well. Do you work for an agency/company or are you an independent contractor with an LLC?

These types of “gig” RN jobs are only going to increase as the demand increases. We are doing our part to teach these nurses tech so they can work with Health Tech companies in population health managing patients from home.

But as a home health myself, an aide not a nurse, we honestly don't get paid enough. I get paid minimum wage for real hard labor. Incontinence care, operation of a mechanical lift, wheelchair, etc. Can't wait to become a nurse.

I have a question about the OT after 8 hrs. Does it apply to all facilities of CA? Or does the job position you applied to have to be an 8hr position in order to be paid OT after 8hrs? What if you signed up for a 12hr position? I'm so used to 12 hr shifts having 4days off and I would like to keep it like that lol. And just sign up extra if I feel like it. Work less time for more money.

Home health nurses, i make 250k/year working 10 days pay period(6 and 4 days). I see 25- 30 clients a day and working from 9 am to 5- 6 pm. I could easily make way over 300k if i was single

Wow! that's more than a law school graduate makes in their first year of working. Goodness. As long as you love your patients and are doing a great job as this is a very critical field and most needed across the globe.

As a Seasoned RN when did it co.e to just the money. No one talks about the experiences. But in hindsight you have no experience. Nursing skill and knowledge is not gained I one year. In order to be an expert it's 5 years. It's a sad to see where nursi g is going. The desperate need for nurses has caused this money grab.

That's the best part of home health: flexibility. It feels like you're your own boss and you work at your own pace.

I dislike how numbers that most put up in the 6 digit region is the most unrealistic for those not living in the most populous states in the US. Thumbnails appear misleading and in a way convey a vain, self-seeking, monetary objective to working as a nurse. Unsubbed.
