OMG thanks for your perspective on correctional nursing. I've been a correctional nurse for over 9 years and this specialty has such a bad stigma. I work at a local hospital PRN and I'm always asked, " How could you work in corrections?" My answer is "how can you work here? I feel a lot safer at the correctional facility than I do here."

@@reachoperator212 I guess I am the exception, my mom never mentioned becoming a nurse and she was a nurses aide for more than 20 years lol. One thing she always said is “show them your degree,” essentially saying you are never tied down in oppressed environments when you have options. I loved this interview! i had two people tell me about it because they know I am going into psych nursing. I would love to know if she made 600k herself or did her business make 600K. Also, there is a way to make that kind of money and practicing in NY is one of them. I spoke to a psych NP who lived and practiced in another state and in NYC as well. I would love to see a video on the barriers to becoming a psych NP and how to avoid them. Its cool that she makes so much but I see ppl having to drop out of programs because they do not have a preceptor or the schools are saturated now.

@buckeye-pe6df When I graduate I'll have 4 years of experience. So, what's the problem? Because I don't want to be treated like a slave, I'm money hungry? Do you know what a 12 hour shift is like as a RN? This is the problem with a lot of you people, your judgmental about things you know nothing about. I work with nurses who have been in the profession 8, 15, 25+ years, and they are leaving the bedside in droves because the workload and demands are impossible to meet. Seasoned nurses are feeling anxiety, depression, and burnout. You people won't get it until there are no nurses left to take care of you or your family members. CEO greed is the problem , like in every other industry. The only people making real money in healthcare are the CEO's.

I am in correctional medicine. I am totally independent. My supervisor trusts me and allows me to work with a lot of independence. My wife is pediatric RN. We were able to put son through 3 university degrees one being law. We put daughter through two degrees. We paid for all their education. I have now been in Texas 34 years. My areas of specialty include cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, hepatology. I was a nationally certified ICU nurse for 30 years (CCRN). I have solid retirement, health care, life insurance.
