This review of the NVIDIA RTX 4070 Super includes benchmarks vs. the RTX 4070 (original), RTX 4070 Ti, RTX 4080, 3070, 2070, and AMD cards like the RX 6800 XT, RX 7800 XT, 7900 XT, and more. Testing looks at a mix of rasterization performance in gaming, ray tracing performance (including DLSS and FSR), and end-to-end system latency performance as influenced by the GPU. We'll also test power consumption of the new RTX 4070 Super graphics card. This testing should help establish which video cards are the best for gaming in the $500 to $600 area right now, but we have plenty more coming with the new AMD RX 7600 XT, NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super, and RTX 4080 Super, so check back for those this month.

The whole series was Nvidia's best new release offering ever since probably the original GeForce 256 DDR. Performance shot up, power consumption plummeted, GPGPU applications went through a renaissance, all cards from 1070 up stayed perfectly relevant for at least the next 3-4 years outside of RT workloads. Hell, 1080 Ti is still just fine for 1080p play for almost any game. Everything that came since has been a series of usual compromises that only become worthwhile after the mid-series refreshes like this one. That being said, this *does* look like a good refresh at least.

Really curious if you notice and physical changes in the new card such as weight or stronger boards to resolve sag, cracks, and other issues with the weight of the cards being to heavy. Also would like to see the latency differences using a riser. I think these cards are just going to get heavier and I wonder if there will be more cases that either add GPU supports or more cases being designed for vertical placement like the Y60 and Y40.

As a side note - I would love to see you do a full review of the Acer Orion Predator X - I loved your preview last year and now that I could actually order one, I would love to see you do a full and proper test and review. Hope you can take a look at Tekken 8, either as a one-off, or as a part of the regular hardware review suite. I'd be ecstatic if it somehow fits into regular hardware reviews. Fighting games have a unique scenario where they are locked at 60 fps (unless you mod the game) and with ideal settings/hardware you want the game to look as good as possible while never dipping below 60, with latency as low as possible, and frametimes as consistent as possible. There's more graphics settings in the game then ever before, and I'm a little lost on how to optimize for consistency (demo has been out for a while now, game is out in 10 days). Thanks Steve :^)

bang on , the actual successor to 3080 the 4080 is terrible value its less of an uplift from 2080-3080 , I really dont give a shit rt its still in its infancy and its not like its a dramatic difference in most games between on and off the biggest advantage right now is for debs , it makes their work a good bit easier , while we incur a huge performance penality and have to run below native res. I have to laugh at the everyone who wants to see the 4080 super review because its a good £1000 for fe thats not good at all , and the aibs your talking £1200 -£1400

With the new latency test, I'm curious; is there latency differences between motherboards? The gpu and screen (and probably the cable even, though probably to a much lesser extent (I would imagine as an unknowledgeable outsider)) surely matter, but what about the motherboard? The problem is that it's more expensive than the 4070 and 7800 XT, and still only has 12GB of vram. It's hard to justify paying 100 USD more than the 7800 XT to get less vram, and I suspect that the 4070 is going to be dropping somewhat below 550 as well, as it has already been available for below 550 at times over the last couple of months. 600 USD was a lot to pay for a graphics card with 12GB of vram a year ago, and now we're only about a year away from the next generation from both AMD and Nvidia, and maybe half a year away from Intel's new generation of cards as well.

Hi Steve, I just wanna drop some constructive advice here. Consider dropping the numbers next to the %-low bars. So many numbers can get bunched up there that readabilty suffers. The exact values of the %-lows aren't that interesting to begin with since they can only point to some underlying issue and if they do the difference is visible by eye. Otherwise a great review. Thanks Steve.

I appreciate the inclusion of latency! I'd be curious to see how much "added" latency there is for a given card. In this case I would define added latency as: ( total_latency - (1 / FPS ) ). Ideally this would identify cards with particularly long pipelines or things like that. However, I don't know if this would be a meaningful number since it's so directly linked to framerates (i.e. cards with extremely low framerates will look better on paper). Maybe it could be normalized somehow. Something to think about...
