I'd argue that the 35% gap from 4080 to 4090, and $1200 price, ruined the 80-class. The 4080 "super" is just an underwhelming band-aid on the price part.

with me it all really depends on what my total system budget is. currently saving for a target of 3000 bucks looking to go from 4tb ssd/hdd space to 12 tb ssd-only space so the Ssd's alone are gonna run me 600 for three 4TB SSDs . i'm super tired of juggling what is installed between im current 2TB SSD and my 2TB HDD. so given my 3000 dollar budget a video card between $800-1000 in cost is not rediculous or unreasonable. however , i hate how nvidia has worked to control the market and mind share of consumers and industry workers alike. So more and more i'm looking to AMD and itnel to what they are bringing for 2024.

@@DenverStarkey it's a value thing for me. I can buy a 4090 but never would. 500 for a gpu is reasonable in my eyes. Everyone's got a different threshold. Don't see the need when I can get high fps on my 1440p monitor. Anything more is point of diminishing returns for me. BTW, 2023 was a great year to buy ssds/nvme. Prices starting to creep back up now. Good luck with your build.

Skip it" generation. To pay 43% more money over the $700 3080 10GB to get a 50% uplift just doesn't make sense. Soon this kind of performance will be available for ~$700 with the 5070 and then this will make sense where for the same $700 people will get a ~50% performance uplift. The $1000 price tag for an 80-class card is just absurd that Nvidia is pushing more and more with each generation. 1080 was $600, 2080 and 3080 were $700. And don't tell me about fake excuses like inflation because you don't see it in other markets like monitors, CPUs, SSDs, or even the 4090 itself $100 over the 3090. And don't tell me about another fake excuse like "expensive TSMC" First. The 4080's chip is 40% smaller than the 3080's chip Second: The chip for the 3080 is 630mm. with $6k per wafer, the chip costs $80 The chip for the 4080 is 380mm. even with $18k per wafer, the chip costs $132 Even if TSMC would be 3x more expensive (and is not) the difference in cost of the chip would be $50 - not $500. xx80 for $1000 is just nuts. Nvidia just made from the 4090 a Titan class card and from the 4080 the xx90 class card in terms of pricing. This is beyond greed and nothing else. No wonder this market is dying and most games are created for consoles and then poorly ported to PCs because even devs don't care about this market anymore. Sad reality.

I have an AMD RX 580 8GB, and I am buying an RTX 4080 Super in the next few days here in Brazil. Because of the reduced price and the avalanches of the super series here and because of the desirable prices from AMD on 7800 XT, 7900 XT, and even 7900 XTX, the price of 4080 S is insanely attractive even though it is pricier than AMD contrapart. Still, because I will have to use this card for Stable Diffusion and DaVinci Resolve Studio, I will choose the 4080 Super because of the high compatibility and insane performance on IAs, but sure, If you already have a not-so-old card, I believe is better to get a 4070 TS or wait the next series.

The pricing for the 4080 Super is $200-300 more in Australia than the standard model, which was already at a steep price. So definitely not the best value for those who are coming from a previous generation and was hoping for a better performance lift, especially in terms of pricing. That said, I still went for the standard 4080 as someone who has been stuck with a 1080ti for many years and while it has done fine, it's starting to show it's limitations. But still, Nvidia needs to do better and I feel like the price would have been acceptable if they gave the Super variant an extra 4GB of VRAM but I guess that would have made too much sense.

I was going to wait for the 50 series, but those things will be well over 3k because they’ll be sold out due to scalpers then resold for insane price tag. We won’t be able to get one day one by the time I get my hands on one it’ll prob be end of 2025. I bought the TUF 4080 super at MSRP, I just successfully nvflashed it to the Strix OC 420W from 350W power limit. Nvidia reduced the power limit /VRM limit for the 4080 super, hence it perform worse than some of the original 4080. By applying the strix 420W vbios to it, that's the power dealt with. The VRM design on the ASUS Noctua 4080 is Vishay SIC639 DrMOS rated for 50A max, while the TUF 4080 super has Vishay SIC654A DrMOS rated for 50A with max burst mode of 70A. So technically spec wise, my TUF 4080 super should now perform better than any 4080. Anyway my undervolt/overclock settings at 900mV - 2570Mhz runs full load of 51°C stable. I'm pretty happy with it and don't plan to upgrade for at least 8 years. Word of warning tho, I am not responsible if you brick your GPU with a vbios flash.

I know the 5090 will most likely be first and this gen I'm just going to buy it and try and not even look at the price. I'm getting 2-3 generations out of my last card and I expect the same with this card. Then 2000$ dosen't hurt that much. 3-4 years gaming at high setting is all I want and I'm sure this new 50 series will deliver that.

It doesn't matter buy now or not. You buy now, next year your GPU is outdated. This is so stupid. I remember when the 1080 Ti was such a big deal that the 20 series weren't worth buying until the 30 series came through. Then, the 40 series came out of nowhere and just blew the 30 series out of the water. So the 20 series should have been the 30 series and the 40 series the soon to be 50 series. This is so stupid. I still have the 1080 Ti with the i7 8700k and because of the updated upscaling for the 1080 Ti, I can literally play almost every video games at high resolution 60 plus fps at 1440p as a back up PC in the living room. And in the man cave I have the latest i7 with the 3080 and it runs everything I want very well including gaming but I wanted the 3080 ti but at the time couldn't find it. Then the 40 series came out of nowhere and have dlss 3.0 and FG. And, I was really thinking do I wanna upgrade but then the 50 series are just around the corner. You see how stupid this is. You don't even have the chance to enjoy your card and it is already absolute. Out of all of the cards, the 1080 Ti card is the one that still holds its true value for me and the black sheep card that came out of Nvidia.

Not everyone can time that with the next GPU release. This whole just sit around and wait a year doesn't work if you need new HW now. For people in this position a 4080 costing 200 less is a good thing, should it have been this price all along? Yeah - no shit. I don't like nvidia's business, but giving us a price cut is a good thing and here in Canada it's put the 4080S and XTX in direct price competition with one another when previously the XTX was 300-400 cheaper.

Many people complaing about 4060Ti price at $400 unlike 1060 ($250) but if gpu price are going up in linear fashion to wafer price increase over the years 4060Ti will have starting price of $1000. Not going to happen. Both AMD and nvidia already expecting gamer to buy less gpu going forward. Just look at one of AMD initial marketing when they launch 7900. They talk about running pro application on their gaming GPU. For discrete gpu market that segment is growing while sales from gamer only will keep shrinking. Nvidia already got this segment covered long time ago. The pricing we see on nvidia gpu with 40 series counting the "value" of those cards for semi pro market. 4060Ti 16GB? terrible product in the eyes of gamer but for semi pro folks it is a steal because they can get something similar to A4000 at 1/3 or even 1/4 of the cost. Just look at nvidia gaming revenue. Despite all the talk about how 40 series are dusting on store shelves and price are below MSRP nvidia gaming revenue are at record level. Over 2 bil of revenue? Nvidia gaming revenue in the past never cross 2 billion mark unless there are crypto craze.

Here in the UK AMD hasn't bothered to drop the 7900xtx at all so its literally the same price or 50 less than the 4080 super. Cant lie for that price its just not worth it at all, for either of them its piss poor. The 7900xtx competes with 80 class and the more games you throw at them they eventually equal out to being a slight % either or direction... 24GB VRAM is quite literally useless as well and I would rather just get the better RT, feature set and much lower power draw. Its actually so sad how the 80 class was always around the 500 to 700 MSRP mark and suddenly it jumps to 1000. AMD aren't even bothered about competing either.

Jensen Huang wants to price super high-end gaming GPUs as psuedo-Quadro GPUs. NVIDIA is selling the AD102 die in the Quadro RTX 5000 Ada for $4500 vs. $1200 RTX 4080/$1000 RTX 4080 Super. Jensen Huang will drive prices up to harvest more profits before the AI demand levels off with more competitors jumping into the market. He might moderate his price inflation on mainstream GPUs like the 5060, but the 5070 and up will be priced higher especially if they deliver 20% performance gains vs. their predecessors. AMD and/or Intel can drive down prices with extremely competitive next gen cards, but if they fail, NVIDIA will have complete freedom to shift prices upward. We might get halo Titan cards again for $2500+. Then again, NVIDIA sells $30k-$40k AI GPUs in a red hot AI arms race, so NVIDIA can absorb sales volume losses from high gaming card prices.

well they are working off a "at-loss" mentality too .. that is where a company views making one product a financial loss , because it takes resources that could be maiking a more expensive product. in Nvidia's mind EVERY gpu they make is made at a significant loss of 30k+ because that gaming silicon takes up "order space" of AI chips. they see it as "we need to charge more for gpu's becasue even at 2000 dollars that 4090 is a 30k+ loss because we could have made a 32, 35, or 38k AI chip with taht silicon order." this mentality also puts them in danger of viewering their gaming customers as "the enemy" because we demand they makes these "at loss" chips and we also demand they make them cheaper (aka at an even bigger loss) . the at-loss mentality is a greed trap for a company. and it will eventually bite them in the ass. because eventually they'll price themselves just too damn high period. quite frankly i'm stil not decided ratehr i'll skip nvidia's 4000 series or not, but i've already mad my mind up i'm not ever getting the 5000 , 6000 or waht ever siereis that follow. AMD and itnel are both cooking up new ways to handle ray tracing (and path tracing) taht will make their cards much faster at RT than they currently are. nvidia did not invent RT ,. they mearly were first to come with a way to do it in real time , and even that was them buying up a company that had planed to release a Real-time RT only card. eventually they will be matched or beaten at the RT game. because RT is not propriety , just their way to handle it is.

Some of them buy the gpu for their job. It is significantly cheaper than have to buy true pro gpu like A5000 for them. The semi pro market are growing. The fact that nvidia coming out with something like Studio Drivers they pretty much admit the existence of this segment rather than try to push them all out to buy full professional grade gpu. Right now geforce pricing no longer priced with gamer only in mind but also those semi pro. And going forwars they probably end up buying more gpu than gamer itself. Ngreedia went full "r-word" with $1200. Even a cool _thou_ is too much, for a single PC component. *The 1080Ti was $699.* Arguably the best GPU they've ever made. If you had a 3080 and you sold it for, say, $350-400... you still have to shell out $600-700 to get an 80-class, same amount as last time! That's just absurd! It's like you didn't get anything for your previous card, you paid the same, because the new one is ridiculously priced. 😐 And dropping to a 70-class feelsbatman. 😕 Especially considering the 4070 is actually a 4060, so you'd actually be getting a 60-class. 😐 The entire 4000 series cards suck. Sadly console is worst and gaming in general is not even that good now.

You must be a shill. No way you're arguing "it is what it is" unless you hate Capitalism. The pathetic mindset of someone who argues in favor of being scammed because they believe the consumer has zero say over the market. The Super is literally in response to consumers refusing to buy into the overpriced shitshow that is the standard 4080. Keep doing this and watch prices move downwards. Only paid fools would tell others to give up and keep paying whatever a shitty company wants. By all means you are free to keep flushing your money down the toilet lol. I love watching stupid people lose money due to a loser mentality.

Tell me your definition of crap. If someone want a card to play and it’s on budget there’s nothing wrong with AMD in my opinion. What he’s losing? Ray tracing? Any Nvidia card under 600$ can’t do Ray tracing good enough. If you’re in a budget you don’t give a 🐀 ass about Ray tracing. I build PC and I flip easier those with Nvidia cards. But I’m getting RX 6600 80-100$. Which is roughly similar performance to RTX 4060 300$. RX 6600 will play just fine games and drivers are as good as they can be. Why a budget gamer should pay 300 when he is in budget and he wants just to play games for best budget he can? Or just because Nvidia should make at least 60% profit margin? Or any other reason that only you can tell and nobody else can? Buy Nvidia or get out of PC gaming looks little bit arrogant to me. May be you should just your statement a little bit? Don’t you think?
