Does the NYXI Warrior Controller allow me to remap the button scheme using the Nintendo Switch system?
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk 2 ай бұрын
That is a great question and one that is getting pinned! Yes, basically, just about any controller that works on Switch (and that includes the Warrior) have the Switch Pro controller protocol, something I feel got "acquired" from Nintendo's many leaks that occured during the lifecycle of the Switch. So in that regard, the feature works just the same on NYXI's controller which I made sure to try. That could be a solution to address the layout for some people that would want to operate it a different way than intended.

It’s really sad that Nintendo has almost forgotten about the GameCube controller. I am so glad that there are companies out there who want to keep innovating and improving on such a great controller.

Agreed, and also very glad that these third parties are tackling it while not limiting themselves to serving GameCube (or Switch) only. As a PC, mobile and Switch controller, it does a lot of things great!

@@DitheryStudios Well let me sink that line deeper for you, I have a PowerA. I originally drew comparisons but ended up removing that portion, the video was getting too long. It's a solid controller if wanting something almost 1:1 in feel to the OG GameCube one but the Warrior took some liberties and they all improved on the original hardware that inspired it. Yet, it retains a feel that is more than convincing enough, a great product really! Thanks for engaging, greatly appreciated! 😄

This is the controller powerA should have made. Instead we got a featureless GameCube looking controller. Nintendo should give the offical license to nyxi or Mobapad, because they do way better than powerA, to their credit they have the designs down, but not one of their controllers even vibrates which is ridiculous
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk 2 ай бұрын
You know, originally I had a whole segment comparing the PowerA, which I eventually removed as they are so far apart. I think you can catch glimpses of it here and there in the footage. As for everything you said, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT! I'm guessing when Nintendo license, they purposely gimp the competition to not have to fight over features and keep the first party accessories relevant because the PowerA was so feature-ridden in comparison that it was sad really. NYXI said: "Hold my beer!"

Yup, you summarized it perfectly, I was skeptical too but they really did a fine job making it extra modern which I appreciate. We're not gonna need a "slightly better version" cause that one got everything really, HD Rumble, hair trigger, analog triggers! Yeah a dock, maybe a phone mount could've been cool too? But I'm happy with what we got. Cheers and thanks for engaging!

I modded my gamecube a few months ago and got a couple Retro Fighters controllers for it. I liked the true to original feel and button layout, but they are just made so cheaply. My first one got stick drift in 2 weeks. They replaced it for free, but still rubbed me the wrong way. While I was waiting for the replacement, I saw the trailer for this controller and was super excited. Im hoping this one performs a little better with the hall effect tech in it.

Yes it does, see the funny thing is I had a segment covering that exact topic but I decided last minute to remove it, it was all filmed and everything too. Past that, Warrior is better on every front because it didn't just emulate the original, it improved it, that's what makes it on a different league in comparison. Cheers!

Out of curiosity, did you happen to test, or know, if this controller supports the analog triggers when being used with something like dolphin? Iv seen them mentioned in the advertising, but most bluetooth controllers like this iv seen generally only accept the analog input when plugged into a gc controller adpater or an actual gamecube, and i want games like sunshine to feel as close to authentic as possible with emulation
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk Ай бұрын
I did test in Dolphin emulator after, the trigger portion works fine, however, the click at the end that the original GC controller had is not part of that trigger. Therefore, you must map one or the other but cannot do both. With that said, you can map the "click" on say L3 or R3 of the Warrior, not the same but it can serve in a pinch. What I did specifically for Sunshine, I kept analog R2 and mapped the click on R3, I then put that value on the right back paddle so I click that to have mario move or not while using the nozzle. It works surprisingly well and I adapted fairly quickly! I hope this helps! :)

I want to use this controller with my OG Wii to play GameCube games. I wonder if the triggers are analog to play for example Super Mario sunshine properly?
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk 2 ай бұрын
It doesn't have the physical "click" at the end, nor does it have both values. Rather, the hair triggers only gives 0-100% to throttle and brake. I tried mapping a few things to see if it would work but it hasn't. I doubt it would but maybe someone with a GC/Wii could try mapping that "click" to the back buttons and see if saves the value on-board even when plugging the device elsewhere but I doubt it would work. With that said, I'm thinking this might be a software addressable thing but NYXI doesn't have an accompanying software companion for this controller. I'll bring it to them nonetheless. Cheers!

@@GameTechTalk Si finally I received the warrior controller and tried it on an original GameCube. To syncronize, it is very simple, to put the adaptor on the console, turn on the console, press the button on the adapter for 3 seconds and then press the syncronize button for 3 seconds on the controller, and it conectas very fast. The manual doesn’t say it, but if you turn of the console and turn it on again, you just have to press the center owl button thing on the controller and it will connect again very fast. So far I liked it, I don’t like the buttons do like clic from a computer keyboard, but is not bad, I got used to it very fast. I tried on a couple of games, star fox adventures, Luigi’s mansion, metal gear twin snakes, resident evil 2, and Zelda wind waker. It works super good in all games, everything works fine as I remembered, the controller is a little different from an original one, but very good. But there are 2 bad things: -metal gear has this glitch thing going on that doesn’t happen with an original controller, because the newer controller has more travel distance the stick, the programmers left a mistake there, when you press up and right, the game doesn’t know what to do, and instead of running, the character walks, only happens pressing up and right, doesn’t happen with an original game cube controller, there is still the possibility of using the dpad to play. But this is not the fault of the controller, but is good to say this of someone wants to play metal gear with this controller, this will happen. -resident evil 2, I like playing using the pad, it works fine, but because it has like a circular base, and not like a cross, is hard to push only up, so when I am turning with the character, And I try to finish my turn and try to walk straight, I thought I was pushing up, but my character keep turning around. The controllers detects all inputs correctly, but because of the design, it doesn’t work completely good. But it works good in all games, I didn’t liked the pad is not a cross, maybe Nintendo has the copyrights, so they cannot use a cross. But overal, I think is a very good option for a GameCube fan, to get a new wireless controller. Very sad about the metal gear situation.

Couldn't agree more. Not too much at all, rather just enough. I don’t know for you but I bought those kits of old controllers we buried over the years and to be honest, as much as the nostalgia is fun for 5 mins, most don’t hold up too well in modern times… except the GC one. For it to be back in better shape than ever is a testament to how great it was. I’m hoping this puts NYXI on the map even more if they keep redesigning classics like that! What other controller would you like to see redesigned? I wonder if we’re thinking of the same hehehe!

It’s also one of those products that after a bit of time, would just click to be a rather very good solution. I do wonder if it could even be made good and modern… So was it the one you were thinking of too? You can as long as you are on the Nintendo mode and have a software to take advantage of it such as Steam Input. But if your asking if you can add gyro to X-input mode, like the KK3 Max and Flydigi controllers can, no you cannot. Not unless NYXI introduces a software to do so.

A lot of what the good folks at NYXI have done flies completely off of my radar because I don't own a Switch. Yeah, and I dare to call myself a gamer. The audacity. This Warrior is pinging my radar like a flight of B-52s because it's something that'll actually work with all of the hardware I own and expect to own in the future. I have a lot of fond memories of the GameCube and a lot of hours behind that controller. The WiiU had a sexy Pro controller and the original Wii was almost as fun at parties as I am. But; the GameCube was the last TV console from Nintendo that truly captivated me. I've enjoyed getting back into GameCube in recent years with Dolphin emulation on my phone. It's allowed me to play some of the games that I and my friends couldn't afford or that simply weren't offered in stores around here. It's allowed me to revisit the stuff that I overlooked or misjudged for one reason or another. I have to imagine that there's lots of people who may be in the same boat. They play GameCube on their phones, tablets, or PCs and this controller will go a long ways towards making their experience more real. Would I buy this? Honestly; I don't know. I have a King Kong 3 Pro on the way thanks to our friends at Retro Handhelds and AKNES. Gulikit stuff has an excellent reputation and I have very high hopes for this KK3P. I don't need another $60 controller when that one is very likely going to be end game for me. Oh, but I want this one too. I saw a joke in one of the retro handhelds subreddits that said our end goal should be to own multiple handhelds, each optimized for a specific console. Maybe they had the spirit; but, were just a little confused? Maybe the secret to happiness is owning multiple controllers, each optimized for a specific console? I've certainly heard worse ideas than that. Downright bad ones, even. Our Founding Fathers invited Quebec to join the USA in the Articles of Confederation, which was our pre-Constitution constitution. They declined. I'll leave it to you, dear reader, to determine which of those actions was the bad idea.

But this particularly caught my attention: "Maybe the secret to happiness is owning multiple controllers, each optimized for a specific console?" Just.... wow? Can I say I felt a brain jolt when I read this... I don't know if I'll tackle that but I think what you said is brilliant and if ever I do, you deserve all the credits. In the meantime, I'll still figure out what was the bad idea and will wish you good luck for the giveaway! Thanks Matt, it was a great comment to start the day with! 😊

I don't know if I understood correctly, the control has less latency with the doongle and then with the hub adapter than when connected directly with USB C to the switch dock?
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk 2 ай бұрын
Not exactly, my apology as I may have jumbled my words when talking about that part. What I'm saying is, when using the NYXI Warrior dongle, it performed better than any other controller I've benchmarked wired in the 125hz category, which is where it lands when using the dongle. But when using wired on the Warrior itself, it still does even better than when using the dongle as expected. Cheers! Tl;dr - NYXI (wired) > NYXI (dongle) > Other 125hz controllers (wired) You can also check the numbers here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1De7alQV41En3SK_9OOKdAn28v41ptfaLF3q54WTL0o0/edit#gid=0

@@GameTechTalk Interesting analysis, which will have less latency, this warrior or the original cube control connected by the USB adapter?
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk 2 ай бұрын
@@tuxtv That is unfortunately something I cannot factually answer, I can only make logic assumptions which is that I'd put my money on the latency not being as good on the adapter if just for the fact that USB comes into play on top of legacy connectors. Adding a "middle element" causes extra latency, possibly very little but seeing how the Warrior capitalizes on newer technology, rather than just being pinnacle older one, I think that's 2-0 for the Warrior being potentially better than bringing back original hardware into modern era using external tools. Cheers!

It does, I don't think I know of a controller that doesn't have any out of the box brand new. How do the triggers work with Super Mario Sunshine on 3D All-Stars? As well as racing games on Switch?
@GameTechTalk
@GameTechTalk 2 ай бұрын
For racing games, that entirely depends on if the game supports analog triggers and to my knowledge there is only one game that does on Switch and I think it is Dirt 5? I also read a while back that apparently the feature was removed in a later patch. Don't know if that's true but best to assume that your triggers won't be analog while playing Switch, but it will be everywhere else. As for Mario Sunshine, the NYXI Warrior does not have the L2/R2 click at the end of the analog trigger like the GameCube did. So, much like when playing Sunshine on joycons, R1 and R2 will be used based on whether you want to squirt while standing still or while moving. I also don't have any graduality when lightly pushing R2, so I assume it simply is registered as the button with no analog values. Cheers!

Hmmm… This is going to sound weird but I LOVE the Apex 4. Not shying away from that right? But can I say it doesn’t feel right for Switch? And sure HD Rumble is not there but it’s not even that… It’s like Apex 4 is for try-hard’ing, not for when I’m at “casual” leisurely-type pace. So in that regard, my pick is shifting to the Warrior cause it’s oh so sweet for the Switch, even though the layout isn’t the exact same. It’s beast at Smash of course, and totally awesome for retro. The dongle working on Switch also gives it an edge as it performs better than Bluetooth latency-wise. I think if the emulator does let you map that function separately than the throttle/brake, you could be able to use say L1 for it, I get it's not the same but at least it's a solution. And then, you map that L1 to a back paddle to better manage when Mario is moving while splurging water. With that said, original hardware, I can't think of a solution and I tried to see if I could map that value alone but it didn't work as I expected.
