O-rings! Something most of us deal with while stretching our ears but few of us really realize just how much these little things can impact our stretching progress. These sneaky bits are one of the big things holding many people back from their goal sizes- and most don't even realize it. This video delves into different styles of o-ring, different materials, and why it matters.

I used nitrile o rings for years, and many many times I would wake up with sore and weepy ear lobes. I thought that I had persistent "wet ear" for ages but now that I've learned the healthiest way to stretch and the best tools to do so I never deal with those issues. Thank you for taking the time to educate about something small but so impactful.

I had just about given up on my stretching journey after being stuck at a 4G for over a year. This really gives me hope that the o-rings could be my problem. I'm going to give this a try, thank you!

Just stretched to 5.5mm. This was the first stretch with black O rings. My ears have been SO SORE and weepy and bloody a whole week after the stretch. Never had this happen (always used clear o rings). I literally just switched to internally threaded stainless steel and OMG, I feel so much better in just six hours ! This was literally my problem. Insane.

Wowwwwww this explains so much. Twice now ive slowwwwwly, patiently stretched my ears with glass single flare plugs. Both times, around the same size/time stretching ... they inexplicably got weepy, itchy and sore. This could very well be the reason. 😮

this is super interesting because I have a reaction to the clear (presumably silicone) o-rings. my ears get dry and flakey, and when i take them off, my ears are fine again. i haven't tried nitrile or black silicone. right now the black (EPDM) o-rings from GWS are the only ones i can wear long-term.

Hearing you describe nitrile sensitivities reminds me of my experience with 14k gold jewelry. I was trying high quality stuff from bvla, Junipurr, Buddha… and my ears would just NOT heal no matter what I or my piercer tried. Turns out, my mom has a gold allergy, so odds are I do too. Weird how the body just decides it hates something 😅
@jd3497

14k Gold is 42% alloys of other metals. It's usually not the Gold, but the other metals: Nickel; Copper; Zinc: Silver; etc., that are the issue.

@@jd3497 im well aware that gold usually isn’t the issue-but an allergy test told us it was gold. Not just a reaction to jewelry

I definitely use nitrile, because I use X-Rings because I got sick of normal ones rolling off at night. Thankfully I haven't had an issue, but it's good to know for if I do!

I never realized that there were different material o-rings and that really might explain why my almost fully healed earlobe got infected out of nowhere when I had just gotten to I think 1/2". And honestly, I kept losing the rings so often that I just don't bother wearing them anymore

once lost an o-ring and it was INSIDE MY PIERCING HOLE, so now i'm a bit afraid of them. is there anything I can do to stop it happening again? do i just need to wear my jewellery looser and accept that it will fall out more?

I'm moving to another state and when moving my furniture I found O rings in 8g, 6g, 2g and 00g I've lost while I was at those sizes and I'm at 20mm now. Plus I've been wearing silicone O rings, I can't do nitrile because they're irritating to my lobes.

do you recommend using metal for stretching? metal screw-flared plugs seem easier to keep in but i wonder if it affects stretching

No, Lynn has made several videos on materials to use, single flared glass is the best way to go, but I wish they made internally threaded screw back plugs!!!

Are you able to make a video on stretched earlobes with stacking seemless rings? I personally don’t like the look of traditional plugs and tunnels. I have been stretching my septum via stacking seemless rings and I wondered if you could do the same with the earlobes? I see pics of ppls ears online of the their stretched earlobes with a bunch of the seemless rings in them but I don’t know if they put those rings in only after their ears were stretched by traditional means, or they stretched them with the stacking method. And how big would your ears have to be stretched to retain that teardrop shape and not close when you’re wearing the stacks of seemless rings?

is silicone safe to wear in your earlobes? Like as a plug or a tunnel? I always hear others say not to stretch with silicone, so my question is, what exactly is the difference between O rings and actual jewelry?
@Lynn_Loheide
@Lynn_Loheide 4 ай бұрын
Silicone is porous, and when folks are stretching with it they usually fold up a silicone eyelet and unfold it in the ear. It unfolds with uneven pressure usually focusing the force of the stretch on one or two parts of the ear causing tears. Since it’s porous it can fuse to the open tissue of the tears as it heals causing even more damage. Having had to pry stuck silicone eyelets out of torn and blown out ears- it’s a nightmare. There is body safe silicone from the brand Kaos but it shouldn’t be used for stretching. Just worn in healed and healthy lobes. This isn’t a concern for o rings since they aren’t going inside the piercing channel- just on the back on the jewelry.

Hi!! You said on one of your blogs posts that your second and third piercings in your ears ended up “inside” your stretched lobe? How does that work? Did it just get too close and become absorbed by the growing hole, did you get it scalpeled?

@@JudeTavonFenwick I mean everyone starts somewhere. If you’ve literally never stretched your ears or worked with plugs, the first few times you use SF/NF plugs you likely won’t know everything about how to wear them safely and correctly. There’s nothing wrong with sharing education and helping others get knowledge.

Must we always have BAF on blast?
@Lynn_Loheide
@Lynn_Loheide 4 ай бұрын
I mean BAF has a really long history of shady and problematic business practices. If it seems like they are “always on blast” it’s because people are speaking out and warning others of the problems they have had. If I had a dollar for every client who purchased something listed as a quality or safe material from BAF that wasn’t, or was sold something that was the incorrect size/material/style from what was ordered….I could probably retire. I appreciate what they are trying to do to make jewelry accessible but I don’t think that should come with cutting corners in quality or safety, or using shady marketing and advertisement practices. I think we need to hold all businesses in this industry to higher standards of health and customer safety.
