You have explained the functionality of the oxygen sensor and its operation in a closed system loop! Thank you so much! Most people just skim over the details!

Great video, thank you! Does this video apply to both pre- and post- catalytic convertor sensors? And does the engine control computer modulate the fuel injectors to force the high/low cycling observed in the O2 sensor?

The best way to remove the lambda sensor from the cast iron exhaust manifold is to heat the cast iron manifold near the sensor from several sides, if the sensor is broken, cut the wire and carefully unscrew the sensor with a long hex key, if you use a split key, which is more suitable for installing a new sensor, you can turn the edges of the sensor round.

Great Video thanks. What would you do, to trick the ECU into thinking the O2 O/P voltage is less than what it actually is? I have messed around with various methods, on a couple of Motorbikes, which are nearly always TOO lean, and causes jerky throttle response? Just wondering how you would do it?
@1magnit
@1magnit Жыл бұрын
The cycle time depends on engine speed. Fuel and air going in takes time to burn and come out of the exhaust to be sampled. The more RPM, the quicker it cycles.

When the senors deteriorate, the peak voltage reduces.

How does the sensor get cycled from low to high and high to low? Is it the ecu creating a condition of lean and rich?

Hi great detailed information and very knowledgeable and indepth sir!! ty for sharing i have a question for you its concerning these Oxygen O2 Sensor Extension Adapter Spacer Catalytic Converter, i have 2010 dodge 6.1 engine and PO430 has been on for quite a while, according to the Chrysler dealer ,first.i replaced the right bank (sitting in the vehicle of course) (bank 2) sensor with factory dodge oem, after resetting code and 2 hour local driving it reappeared ,it was then said the most like 90% chance it was the cat, so i removed the new ox sensor that was replaced and never cured the problem and used a" Oxygen O2 Sensor Extension Adapter Spacer" the po430 code has been out now for a few days and i was wondering. i know this spacer is use to limit the amount of true reading it suppose to be doing, but im wondering what is it telling the ECM to do as to fuel: air ratio?? i was/is wondering what the computer is doing? is it regulating the fuel or the Air or both. yes i know the cat will need to be replaced in the near future but is it ok to operate because the ECM is "tricked" into thinking all is normal. will this damage anything or is it ok to continue to use the vehicle ty for your thoughs on this and your input. ty in advance

Are Bosch universal downstream sensors all the same for different cars? Do they have the same heating element (thus drawing same amount of ampere)? Do they have the same switching capability?

Good morning, Need to confirm understanding of a false negative: like having 0.85V reading vs actual of 0.65V. This would create leaner combustion?. The car will be having a bit of higher MPG but giving out lesser power? What about comparing sine wave pattern for those cars, of pre 2006 era, combo of ECU & it's O2 sensor vs those from modern post 2015 cars. For my 2005 car its O2 sensor, steady at 60mph, it will not drop below 0.35V. But on braking its reading could drop below 0.1v or even to 0.0v during rapid braking. This is typical of pre 2005 ECU programming?. Regards

You are describing narrow band O2 sensor in the upstream operation that measures the oscillation created by the ECU (injector time). But most of the upstream sensors nowadays are air fuel ratio (meaning wide band) sensor that their ampere, not voltage, is monitored by the ECU. Am I right? Downstream oxygen sensors have been and still are narrow band (measuring 0-1V by ECU) and they are never air fuel ratio sensors, right? And, assuming Cat is healthy, we should see 700 to 800mV, not 450mV (at least when engine is in close loop and constant engine speed) because the NOx is converted to O2 by the cat, am I right?

I have a Landrover Freelander 2, 2.2 diesel, 2014. The 6 wire harness plug connecting to the oxygen sensor has burned in a small fire caused by spilled diesel and separated from the harness wiring. The plug itself is usable and has usable pigtails of bare wire. I want to reconnect the 6 wires to the harness but can’t identify which goes where. The wires on the Oxygen sensor side do not match up with the harness wire colors. So far i have not found the needed information. Any ideas?

How if the sensor reads between .7 to .8v. 4wire sensor. How to make the reading into .4v to .5v? And a p0420 code appears, after washing the cat it stays the read still at .7v to 8v at normal operating temperature.

Can you (or anyone else here) recommend a good software for analyzing an OBD1 setup? I’m a newbie who just completed my first TBI conversion install on a 1987 Jeep and I’m mostly interested in this particular vehicle. My goal is to learn ECM data processing for fun. I have a very old scanner but it doesn’t let me see graphs in this level of detail of course. I’ve seen OBD1 to USB cables implying that there must be laptop software. Thanks for your advice in advance!

Hai PCC, my 2008 GMC Denali is throwing the P1133 and P1153 again after I changed both upstream o2 sensors with original parts. I have cleared the above codes two times, rechecked all o2 wires, cleaned the MAF, and vacuum leaks etc. Any idea what it could be Your suggestion would be appreciated

That vehicle has a Technical Service Bulletin, #08-06-04-045A that calls for a reflash of the Engine Control Module for false setting of those codes. Have the vehicle checked to see if the ECM software has been updated, and get that done if not. If the software is current, check back in!

@@joshymathew876 sorry for the late reply - if you haven't already figured this out, it has to be done through a GM factory scan tool or a J2534 reflashing device and a (currently) $40 subscription to the GM site for your VIN.

Hi PCC, my honda crv 2005 error codes are P0131 low voltage bank1 sensor1 and P0132 voltage high bank1 sensor1,,is this really an upstream o2 sensor faulty? i noticed when i start the car engine, after 2minutes the check engine displayed on dashboard. is there any recommendation? Thank you and stay safe!

If you still on the original AFR/ Air Fuel Ratio sensor consider replacing it w/ at least Denso, NGK or better yet Honda OEM. You can check the fuses to the AFR is next to the main fuse box in the hood.
