#oaxaca de Juarez is a beautiful city in the state of Oaxaca. Located at about 5,000 ft above sea level, Oaxaca has a temperate climate year-round but with less sensitivity to elevation.
This city has about 252,000 people, with about 5% being from a foreign country.
Living in Oaxaca is a dream because you have a culturally rich city that is not too big, not expensive, and with some of the best food and festivals you will experience in Mexico.
Discover why Oaxaca may be the best place to live in Mexico.
And if you're ready to take a scouting trip, check out our Oaxava relocation tours.

Oaxaca is at the top of our list for a place to stay in Mexico. I love the indigenous cultural influence. I have been 6 times and spent 2 weeks there last year, doing 5 hours a day of Spanish in the immersion school. Recently I spent Christmas there. I love it so much: the art, color, architecture, food, museums, shopping, lovely people, climate.

If many American expats move there, it will become another San Miguel de Allende, loosing its spirit. When moving in Mexico, do you plan to learn Spanish and embrace the local culture? If your main motivation is affordability, it is pretty sad. Amitiés du Québec!

Many people's motivation is cost of living - no doubt. But trust me, Oaxaca won't lose its charm because a few foreigners move in. This place has been touristic for decades.... and foreigners have been moving here for years.

Hola de nuevo Mariana! Estado aqui 8 meses de LA... Desde la hermosa Ensenada! I have friends that have lived in Oaxaca for over five years that I've visited and they love it there. Both were living in Colorado via Florida. They didn't have a lot of money coming in because he was a ski instructor and his wife was a teacher. They used to come down during the Summers when neither of them worked. They would motor home down to different beaches in Baja and fell in love with all of the friendly people, food and everything else Mexico has to offer and decided they couldn't think of better place to stretch their dollars, retire early and live. I hope you and your family are doing great and thanks again for your time and all of the help you freely give. BTW- To anyone still on the fence about moving here, don't wait the time is never just right! 😎🥥🌮🏄‍♂🍯

I spent almost a month in Oaxaca in January (72F daily). I stayed in Centro the whole time and ventured out from there. I walked almost everywhere including la doctora (from eating too much delicious food), la lavandería, y los mercados. Seeing so many places that I visited when I was there really brings me back, for example, the Zocolo, Monte Alban, Hierve al Agua, and even the exact Ancestral Palenque (mezcal distillery), called "Mezcal el Sonador" that you show in this video. In their tasting area, they have a "muro de memorias" that all visitors sign (including me :) You absolutely did justice to this extraordinary city. I would like to return during Guelaguetza. Thank you so much for your dedication to showcasing this remarkable city and state.

We focus a lot on rentals because 99% of people watching us have never lived in Mexico. So we encourage you to rent first. Having said that, if you're interested in buying we do have a variety of realtors we recommend.
