Just a short video while I was gathering some data...
Thanks for watching...
What's that app? It's Android. I wrote it. And, you can get it here....remember, it's a hack thing.
CAN App Download Page:

My 'standard' OBDII apps...
On Google Play - Ads version, where positive ratings are much appreciated

Like the data logging stuff, will make life easier, we need more like you.

Cool stuff. It'd be nice if cars had an advanced user toggle and allowed you to see this stuff on your own.

You appear to be plugged into the standard OBD2 diagnostic port on your car? I know many cars have a gateway between the high and low speed can busses. This gateway blocks certain messages / data from being available on the diagnostic port. Could this not be affecting the responses that you get when sending commands, giving confusing results?

Not sure how the network is managed internally. Once I can get any communications - it's like a prybar. So, I do allow for situations like you mention, but I look at it as a bridge I'll cross when I get to it. I just try to make sure I understand every byte I'm sending/receiving....I guess, you're really asking about another 'layer' of infrastructure and I don't have a smart answer. Thanks!

so if you can sniff the can network are the commands listed? or how did you find out which letters digits to enter, btw damm good job,,, you are on to something good, if you can incorporate it into your software you'll have a fully functional scanner, no 1.99 that's for sure,

Good question. I would know what was happening because I'm operating the scanner. Meanwhile, the excellent and critical tool, the linux sniffer would show me what changed

Hello, I'm looking for a way to make the interior and dash lighting blackout with the thumb wheel on a 2011-2014 dodge charger. It will work if using AlfaOBD enabling police lighting feature but the electric door locks and trunk button is disabled. Its gotta be in the can. Thanks

I really wonder if you can please share the wiring diagram of your connection between the car and the dongle

All wires are run end-to-end straight through pin for pin...No signal wires are broken. I had to solder each wire because I started with two separate ends (male/female). The cable had to have different ends to work as a pass through... Some wires are disconnected here because I wanted power and ground wires separated from each end. Otherwise it's just an extension. The two can wires are never brokeen, I just soldered them to a screw terminal. That terminal gives us CANH (pin6) and CANL (pin14) to read the data flow. Pins 6 and 14 here are the standard obdii connector pins. That's it.

you're doing exactly what I'm trying to lean to do. do you have any videos going deeper into what and how you're watching the data stream? I have a tech 2, a obd2 splitter and the elm327 Bluetooth. I'd like to find the pids location from the tech 2. say low side ac pressure and add it to torque app for easy monitoring on a more daily use basis. I found this video. seemed like he used about 100$ worth of parts. I don't mind spending the money for hardware. I struggle more with using it haha.. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fa5hZpRmrZi3eZc.html

The thing that finally allowed me to see the info was to watch the CAN using something other than the ELM327... There's a set of commands called 'Can Utilities' on linux. A command called 'cansniffer' only shows changing CAN data - so you don't get swamped. You also have to physically tap into the CAN wires (while the TEch2, or whatever IS connected - which is tricky). You'll have to deal with a piece of electronics that will bridge whatever computer you're using to the car's CAN. I've not made a video in a while, maybe I should about this. I've concluded the monitor on the dongle is not capable (in speed and depth) to catch the data we're interested in. I use a rasberry pi with an MCP2515. It's fast and sees everything. Thanks!
