Another reason the New Hope fight was so clunky was because the blades on the lightsaber props kept breaking when the actor's were being too rough with them so Alec and David had to be more gentle. My 4 year old absolutely loves anything with Darth Vader in it. When I shown him clips of Vader dueling in this show he just didn't seem to take to it. Any old clips and even the ending of Rogue One he'll sit there either glued to it or trying to copy the moves with his lightsaber. That was a clear enough indication to me that that duel was completely lacking. Maybe it was the lighting or the camera angles, maybe both. Plus the lack of tension like you pointed out.

Let's be fair regarding the damage done to Vader's mask: Rebels was not the first to do so. That has happened in virtually every comicbook where Vader fought a Jedi. Even The Force Unleashed did it. I'm pretty sure even having it cut in half has been done before Rebels.

Even though I refuse to watch Kenobi. I had a feeling that they would somehow break canon. For every TV show coming out from Disney+, all of them seem to break canon in some form.

Nick Gillards contribution to Star Wars is always over looked. People say the prequel fights are soulless and overly choreographed but Nick really did put character in their fight styles. Not only matching their personality but also taking in mind the techniques a student would pick up from their Master. Like the similarities between Dooku and Quigon's fighting style.

The duel should have been a vision while he was meditating while he was getting over his trauma. The reminding should have been him gaining wisdom not cutting himself off from the force.

This duel ruins the emotional payoff for a new hope, it’s obvious kenobi was seeing Vader for the first time in years, and wanted to see him one last time before he died.

The biggest problem I have is not only the duel itself, but also Obi-Wan and Vader dueling each about twice in the show, which makes no damn sense. A New Hope established that the two never met or faced each other prior. It kinda reminds me how in TCW, Anakin and Obi-Wan each had constant fights with Dooku and Grievous.

There are two duels in all of the movies that I consider to be the best. The first is Luke vs Vader in Return of the Jedi. While not the most visually exciting duel, the emotional stakes more than make up for it. It is not boring by any means but Luke's struggle to get through to Anakin is what makes it so great along with the music. The second is Obi-Wan vs Anakin on Mustafar. It is both visually exciting while still having plenty of emotional investment. I think I would even go so far as to put Obi-Wan vs Anakin over Luke vs Vader. (Not by much). And then there is this.If you were going to do fan-fiction couldn't you at least make it good?

Even if there is some Jedi rule about not killing an unarmed prisoner, exceptions must be made. "Only SITH think in absolutes." Leaving Adolf Hitler alive on that planet makes no sense. Obi Wan could have saved countless lives if he killed him, though, obviously, that can't happen because of continuity. But you could have had Obi Wan kick Vader off a cliff into some mist, so our hero would have at least thought he killed the villain, and we would know that Vader survived somehow. But the writers just lacked imagination so hard.

You mentioning the RotS duel telling a story without words reminds me of the fact that I've been meaning to watch Eps I-VI with the sound off to see what it's like, since George said he made the movies to work like silent films. If I had any editing capability I would make my own versions with no sound but John Williams's score, and maybe add some title cards for important bits of dialogue, maybe even make the films black and white. That would be quite a different experience! But for now I can only dream.

But with the topic of Star Wars TV shows, I'd be very curious to see your take on Andor. As someone who always felt Mando was super overrated and hated Kenobi, this new show has a been pretty damned good to me. It feels like Star Wars in the since that it definitely takes place within that universe, but it doesn't rely on cheap nostalgia or furiously bombard you with iconic imagery to try and make you overlook its flaws. Honestly, besides the first arc flashbacks, which felt super forced and out of place, it was pretty well written, at least in my opinion, but that's why I want your take.

There should've been an edit for Episode 5 of the Kenobi series where while Vader is holding the transport in place, Reva attacks Vader, breaking his concentration and letting the transport escape. THERE! Lore remains intact!

I hate the idea of kenobi doing anything between 3 and 4 The idea of vader knowing ben is alive is just ridiculous. Have him stay safe but in solitude is what was implied in the movies. The EU, and Disney “fan”fic both had ben kenobi doing stupid stuff between the movies. More lightsabers! More fights! The same people who hype up that remake of the fight between vader and Obi-wan on the Death Star that sacrifices everything that made it memorable for “spectacle” and rots callbacks. I would like to know why Vader allowed anyone to know who he really is. Every single person that discovered his true identity died. Oh, except Reva of course

A good way to fix Vader's power level would be to show him stopping the ship from leaving, but at the same time struggling because he's straining himself from using too much of the Force. Because of the fact that he's more machine than man, his connection to the Force should be somewhat strenuous to maintain, and he has to channel most of his own life force to keep his connection. It should instead be more taxing to him, like a double edge sword. Vader is extremely powerful, but his machine body should still be able to handicap him, thus proving that his maximum potential as a powerful force user should be lost to him.

Jake Skywalker and Greg Kenobi are the products of Disney Star Wars. Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are the products of the true Star Wars. That is the only reason why George Lucas’s films will never be topped or dethroned and Disney are fools for even thinking that they can. They have failed numerous times. JJ Abrams, Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy are failures and stains on Star Wars as a whole and the Greg Kenobi series(that’s what I’m calling it) is nothing more then Kennedy pissing on the legacy of George Lucas and she is laughing now. But in the end once she leaves the company and this world then the ST along with the Greg Kenobi series will be officially decanonized publicly.

The Prequel fight choreography was the best of all of star wars. Showing the fighting prowess of force users at their prime, it kinda makes sense for the to and sequels saber uses to not be as good (luke didn't have much saber training, and rey being untrained), but no excuse for this duel, it was so bad. Even the ot vader vs ben fight was better (had better atmosphere). Should have gotten Nick Gillard cause he brought out the best for both Hayden and Ewan.
