what I like the most about obituary is that medium slow tempo that always characterized them and made them stand out in a scene where speed was a common factor in bands like cannibal corpse, morbid angel or malevolent creation. that slowness created an incomparable, dark heavy atmosphere. tampa forever.

Amazing this popped up on my feed. I think this was the tour where Cerebral Fix supported them. I wasn't at the Marquee, but I was at Eddies No8 Birmingham and the pit was the same, nuts. Those were great times and great memories. Sad to see extreme metal pits nowadays full of kids watching through a phone, seems alien to a crusty old thrasher like me.

See how they are stage diving? Don't tell me that Punk and Hardcore did not help breath life into this genre. Most of those kids you see where most likely punk/hardcore kids that transitioned over to "extreme" metal and brought their form of "dancing" with them and those who did not grow up or where ever part of the early punk scene got inspired by those who were and saw them stage diving at metal shows and wanted to be a part of that and rightfully so.
@earsbleed3 жыл бұрын
Anyone who knows extreme metal knows that hardcore and punk were a fundamental part of the equation. To deny it is to completely deny the essence of extreme metal

I mean, death metal came from thrash, and thrash has many hardcore and punk influence. Of course death metal was inspired by hardcore punk.
@JaymeSplendid Жыл бұрын
@@jeppyjep Its mad funny because in the early, EARLY 90's I was "Too punk" and hated metal as I was more into the UK Anarcho punk scene and then around 92ish I got into the real first wave of US Crust and by extension UK Crust that came right before it. That got me into the Crust/Grindcore bands like Extreme Noise Terror, Dahmer(Canada), Pretty Little Flower, which then got me collecting early 80s metal LP's. Seriously, listen to KIll 'em All and don't tell me that album's drumming is NOT D-Beat as fuck.
