In 1998, we’d never made a piece of clothing before - but we believed we could make a better waterproof, durable jacket than anything that was on the market at the time. And that’s how the Alpha SV Jacket was born. Go behind the seams of the innovative hardshell jacket that started it all in the third episode of our Obsessive Design film series.

I've got my Alpha SV in 2013 (v4.0?). It was a replacement of an old Patagonia Ice Nine jacket, a 2002 model that had been a copy attempt of the first Alpha SV in 2001. My current Alpha SV has survived icy summits in the Alps, rough granite walls in Patagonia and challenging treks in the Himalayas. Well worth the price of admission to the best alpine climbing jacket in history. Up there with the Fjallraven Vidda Pro pants, Patagonia Capilene + R1 fleece + DAS Parka, the Castelli Gabba jersey and the Nike Air Jordan 1 in the pantheon of iconic sport gear.

No surprise Arc'teryx puts out near perfect marketing. Great copy. Great editing. And - her voice and pacing is refreshing. I want to work for you guys!

I got this video as an ad on KZfaq and I though it was so impressively made that I looked it up, which is how I ended up here. Like I said, very well made video, it‘s a straight up documentation which nice editing, props to Arc‘teryx!

This was such a great video, thanks for this! I have had thirteen different Arc'teryx jackets, and I currently have seven different Arc'teryx jackets in the closet. Well, two Atom SL, everything must be grey, but I had to have that 24K black when it was offered a few years ago. The one I miss most was my Atom SV that I gave away to a guy on the street in Portland, OR, who needed it more than me. I still have my very first jacket, the Beta AR that I bought from you back in 2013 that is still like new! Keep pumping out the great gear Arc'teryx!

do you will recommend me the cerium hoody? is it arcteryx only good on their hard shell? or isn’t it their insulation also good? because i want to buy it but for -10 until 15 celcius

@@Peyovero I really liked the Cerium Hoody. I had the original in the Admiral color. I wear a medium, but had to sell it due to sizing, fitting too tight around the mid-section. I bought the revised version, but returned it for the same reason, having found out later that they revised the sizing in all sizes, except for the medium size. The jacket should work fine for you with just a t shirt against the skin at 15 Celsius, but above that the jacket may be too warm to wear. At the 15 Celsius range I wear the Atom LT. As for the lower temp at the -10 Celsius range, you should be just fine with a nice, warm merino against the skin and possibly a neck gaiter. In those colder temps, if you must deal with any serious windchill factor, I would be using the Cerium Hoody as a mid layer as it was designed to be used. And just a note as stand alone jacket, Arc'teryx did increase the outer face fabric from a 10 denier up to a 15 denier fabric in their latest revision. Hope this helps?

@@Peyovero I should also add that if you do find you are having any issues with fitment wearing the Cerium Hoody, I highly recommend going to the Thorium, I have the Thorium Hoody jacket and I really like it in all respects. As far as the down used by Arc'teryx it is absolutely first-rate down, absolutely excellent down. With the Cerium Hoody using 850 and the Thorium using 750, I actually find the Thorium for me to be just as warm of an insulator. And of course the Thorium works just great as stand alone jacket, as it is designed to be used.

My first Arc'teryx piece was a 2009 Alpha SV, made in Canada and it was revolutionary when compared to the heavy and stiff North Face jackets the preceded it. Hey, Arc - please consider some more innovation in the synthetic insulation category! We've got to get closer to down's warmth/weight sooner or later!

The only issue with the hoods is that it makes the jacket bad for anything where you don't wear a helmet, like hiking and camping. No helmet on and the any headwind will just blow that hood of you head.

It’s a shame the quality went so downhill, I’ve ordered 2 sv’s in the last 3 weeks and both had to be retuned due to being poorly constructed, my venom sv in 2015 was far superior to what they ship out now

The narration felt really out of place, I feel like this could have been a lot better without that voiceover and a bit slower paced.
