Pro tip: If you live in Canada be sure to checkout retailers like atmosphere, sport check after season as they give out some unbelieveable discounts. I got my AT Sawyer jacket for half off. It was marked at $420 from 600, after I rung it in it came out to only $300. If you live in the vancouver area I envy you because of your proximity to the AT outlet.

Both pairs of my gore-tex shoes were not waterproof after one year of use. Maybe it works in jackets but I think the forces inside a shoe walking creates are too much for the fabric and it starts tearing after a while. It should have a functional life longer than a year in my opinion.

I wish i would have seen this video before i bought their product. DAY 2 of wearing a new jacket I scrapped a tree on one of their small tape seems. Jacket ripped and as i skied the rest of the day the wind continued to rip the jacket over 36" inches in total. I contacted customer support and they offered to send me some tape to tape it up myself.... I bought from them because i thought they had the best product and best service.... Guess i was wrong.
@hudsonlgardner
@hudsonlgardner 5 жыл бұрын
Their customer service is horrible. I have owned over 10 pieces of their gear, from boots to hats, and every time one has failed it has been three months or more to get it back, paying shipping both ways. Once they told me to cut a product in half, even though it was still useful, in order for it "not to be used on multiple warranty claims". Your warranty claims suck anyway, no thanks! In essence they are a fashion brand that uses extremely expensive materials. And, Gore-tex is great if you don't use it for days on end in bad conditions. If you do, it is like everything else: it will need to be dried out by a heat source.
@aknonnerd
@aknonnerd 5 жыл бұрын
Weird I have had the opposite experience. I own some of their older still made in Canada made stuff that has been warrantied no problem. Wait time for the warranty was around 3 months. They are expensive and I only buy the Canadian made items when I can find them.

@richardparker5319
@richardparker5319 5 жыл бұрын
freedom life The Parktera wasn't meant for alpine conditions. It was meant for urban environments, that specific type of Goretex is just meant for rain. Do better research in the future before buying a costly product. It even says in the app under "activity" : AROUND TOWN.

Ya, you should definitely go for a 7 hour hike in the mountains with a Canada Goose. Honestly, some people have no idea what products are used in what environment and complain. Nice video Maybe I have had the wrong manufacturers with my raincoats Everyone has failed with goretex leaking like a siv in some cases more like a colander. I’m one that wears shorts so most rainwear doesn’t cover my bum. So I end up with a wet bum and the weather whistles through. This may sound a bit controversial that I don’t wear longs. With longs it’s not fun crossing rivers and creeks as the longs can pull me down under and into the current What I am looking for is a raincoat that protects my bum when I’m carrying my pack. No armpit zips (as they will at some stage) one internal pocket and weighs no more than 500grams and lasts 5 years if I use 200 days per years 🤔 yes I’m a dreamer Cheers

Question: If Goretex is the same technology, just licensed out to other companies, why the hike in price from comparable products from Patagonia, North Face, etc.? Answer: a. Pretense b. Incredible marketing
@brooksnealferguson
@brooksnealferguson 3 жыл бұрын
he said it in the video mate, if you use a high-end material but in a subpar product, you're not really going to get the benefits of that material. Patagonia might have revolutionized fleece 30 years ago, but most of their kit is cut to fit a fucking scarecrow, so who cares what it's made of. They make a "core" piece here and there, it's usually quite well received by actual athletes/enthusiasts (subsequently it's ripped to shreds, typically to the extent of some ass-backwards, self-proclaimed-dirtbag point of pride...durability issues anyone??) but discontinued by the company since the frat and latte crowds aren't buying them. Athletes & enthusiasts ask for another core piece in a year or two which pleases a few, repeat.. Wanna talk about pretense and marvelous marketing? It might not get better than Patagonia. They release a new hooded puffer as if it's a vaccine. The same can be said for North Face and others: Good materials, but at 7 or 8/10 execution. Arcteryx makes products that are competitive with these brands and are competitively priced. They offer a $100 windshell just like anyone..but they also offer a step above, and a step or two or three above that as well, with muuuch better tailoring, and those things come at their own price point and are on a level not offered by many manufacturers. Patagonia and North Face do not design or produce military equipment or apparel, for instance. Arcteryx produces both military apparel and hardgoods through their LEAF line. It seems you missed the entire point of this video... Arc's design house is so good, they made GORE themselves change the way they produce materials and make apparel.
@LairdDavidson
@LairdDavidson 3 жыл бұрын
North Face and Patagonia are roughly the same price as Arcteryx here in the UK. In fact all the major brands like Rab, Mountain Equipment, Mammut, etc all hover at similar prices (that is expensive). I've had plenty of North Face gear in the past and it is okay but nothing special. The Goretex lining suffers from the same issues as other brands.(leaking, splitting, rotting, coming unglued, taped seams losing their tape, etc) I've got soaked through to the skin in a high end North Face ski jacket. North Face seem to have gone in for street wear and fashion as their main focus now so I'll replacing any of their old gear that I still own with other brands as it wears out. Street fashion for outdoor gear isn't my thing. In the end they're all trying to blind us with science and hyped up marketing so we just have to decide for ourselves which product will be best for us from what's on offer and the money we're willing to spend. Personally I like Arcteryx's approach, the tailoring and finish of their garments is top notch. I bought a couple of their jackets so I'll see how I get on with them.

Spirit of Excellence brah. Arc'teryx is doing everything at a 10, and employing a staff that refuses to cut a single corner. That's worth the price every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Why save a $100 when you're gonna go spend another $300, 3 years later?

Well made video but actually explained nothing. As I understand it, Arc'teryx is for rich people and professionals who can afford a new jacket each year because durability suffers from being extremely lightweight.

There are about 10 seconds science material in this 10min long video titled “the science behind gore-tex”... best way to discredit yourself. Nothing wrong to say your edge is in the symbiotic relationship to a material manufacturer, but don’t drag science into it.
