Canoe paddle reviews: in this video i'll explain whats what about canoe paddles. We paddled up and down the calm and birdful Alouette River.

What are advantages and disadvantages of every canoe paddle?
The paddles I talk about in this video are made by two companies. The first is Bending Branches, they make the bent-shaft Java 11. All the rest are made by Grey Owl. They are the Sugar Island, the Voyageur, the Pathfinder, and the Hammerhead. We saw lots of ducks and a Great Blue Heron on this Alouette River daytrip.

Nice selection of paddles, thanks for sharing. Although I am surprised you use a 54". Im 5'6" and most often use a 56". But if it works for you, great!

Nice! I miss a narrower paddle in your collection though, ottertail or something like that. I also used wider paddles only for many years and it felt weird when I first tried a narrow one. Once I got used to it I found out that it's more forgiving for the joints and muscles on long trips, and the efficiency is not that much lower. Also, if the blade is thin and slightly elastic, helps. Nowadays I use wide blades in rapids only ... Regards from Slovenia.

Awesome, is it your first bent shaft? You're gonna love it, I was so impressed by how easy and "cruisey" they feel.

Interesting take on the paddle size! I always thought it should be as tall as your chin. I've never had any issues with sizing it this way but I might have to try out a smaller size and see how it goes. Good tips.

Thanks for watching my video. Yeah it makes sense to me to sit down to measure, but really I think it’s all about feel. Some people like a longer one, some a shorter one, right?

Heya, I was curious how you find the bent shaft for close maneuvers? I do a lot of picking around shorelines, rocks, and tight spaces etc. I find it more difficult with the bent shaft, I stick with my straight shaft most often. I have a bent shaft for my bow paddlers though

Thanks for watching my video. I found it pretty hard to do draws and prys with the bent shaft. On the way back down the river my girlfriend wanted to pick up garbage close to shore and I switched to a straight shaft. So yeah, I agree with you

I've dealt with Bending Branches and found them to be first rate in dealing with their customers. We had an issue concerning shipping the wrong paddle and they corrected the mistake immediately and in the most convenient manner. Aside from their product quality (top tier) the customer service makes them a recommended company.
