The 7th Guest VR was honestly awesome. I seriously couldn't recommend it enough, the puzzles are so good!

7th Guest is a fun game. And the actors were captured with a new 3d capture process called "volumetric video" which captures filmed objects as 3d video data which can then be brought into a game. Very cool.

The big upgrade for me is the eye slider; I have small bird like eyes and I could never get a sharp image on Quest 2… the 3 is finally properly sharp for me!

Performance wise the quest 3 stomps the quest 2. The Quest 3 has room for graphical growth, but for now the quest 2 will hold it back.

If you have the quest 3 search up quest games optimizer, you can override resolution/framerate cpu and gpu utilization for old quest 2 games that makes them look incredible

I dont think the jump is so big that anything that cloud run on Quest 3 wouldnt run on Quest 2 with tradeoffs. If anything i feel like Quest 3 will benefit as Developers need to put more effort to optimize their code for lower end hardware, which makes it run better on higher end also.

this is what i’ve been saying. And this Christmas with the Quest 2 on sale for $250 plus a $50 amazon or target gift card - effectively making it $200, we all know which headset is going under most trees. Developers can’t ignore which hardware is in most people’s hands…or heads…so they will inevitably optimize for the Quest 2 first.

@ChrisBa303 the quest 3s main strength right now is running quest 2 games at 90hz, a few early face lifted games aren't indicative of the full potential. A major trade off would be something like highest fidelity possible, but it gets pushed back down to 72hz to maintain battery. A game like that on quest 2 would suffer heavily in visuals just for the sake of not being left out.

I’m glad to hear John likes the PIMAX Crystal. The clarity from that comes from the glass lenses combined with a really high end LCD. Crystal has the same SOC inside of it that the quest 2 has, but it’s actively cooled so it can clock higher for longer.

The problem is most games are not upgraded for Quest 3 yet so you don't feel the full difference yet, but that's on Meta. Surprised they didn't work with devs so they could have these upgrades in much sooner. I ended up getting an app called Quest Games Optimizer and that let's me further boost resolution. Resident Evil 4 looks miles better now! For now Red Matter 2 is the best example. Waiting on Saints and Sinners to get their Quest 3 update and I'll replay that again cuz I enjoyed that alot!

Quest 2-> 3 jump is much bigger than "numbers" tell.. just look red matter 2. For me biggest jump was the lenses.. Q1,Q2, psvr, they were pretty blurry mess visually, sharp area was narrow and very intolerant with headset position. Q3 is just 3-4x better, I could say 95% of field of view is sharp and you can move headset without missing sweet spot (-> sweet spot is pretty large "spot")

Still Quest 2 is their biggest seller, and selling far cheaper then Quest 3. Its outselling Quest 3, 4 to 1, and sales of the Quest 3 are not going to plan, as they are looking at a Quest lite. Over here the Quest 3 is around $200 to $400 more than the PSVR2, and Since I have a PS5, was a no brainer to get PSVR2, and that price for Quest 3 I mentioned is only for the 128gb version. Also forgot the Quest straps are so horrible got to spend even more money on a decent headband similar to PSVR2

It's weird how you are so light on the lenses. For me that makes a night-and-day difference. Especially compared to something like my PSVR2. Wich has a sweetspot the size of half a grain of rice. Whereas the Q3 is basically clear for 80% of the lense's entire vision. For me at least.

I found that the fresnel lens choice for PSVR2 was a curious and frustrating step backwards. PSVR1 had pancake lenses which had a nice sized sweet spot for clarity - esp compared to my Quest 2's fresnel lenses. Now PSVR2 has fresnel and Quest 3 has pancake. Someone went forward and someone went backward.

@@robbieburns3564 No, 1 cannot use Pancake lenses with the OLED used on PSVR2 as pancake lenses you lose a lot of light, something like you lose 60% of the light reaching your eye, and Quest brightness is not very bright compared to PSVR2, so Pancake lenses would make the PSVR2 a very dull image. Also 2 cannot even use HDR with pancake lenses, as HDR needs a bright screen, much more than Quest will allow. So it was a compromise for Sony, but the Blacks and colour pop, with HDR makes for a fuller more natural image, and the games look more solid and full as a result. HDR is amazing, so natural lighting makes a Hugh difference. Also Pancake lenses are much heavier

The Quest 3 is awesome. It was my first pancake lens headset, I own a Quest 1,2 and 3 and I've owned a Rift CV1 and I use a Valve Index daily. The Pancake lens blow all of them away. The advantages of OLED from the Rift CV1 and Quest 1 is not nearly worth the downgrade in lens. The controllers are using very good haptics and it's smaller size feels great compared to my other VR headsets, even with the crappy headstrap. (Just got a BoboVR headstrap yesterday). The Quest 3 has gotten me back into trying new VR games, it's been a while since I tried random stuff out. Mixed reality games I thought would be just gimmicks but I think they're much more than that, very impressive and fun especially for people like me who don't have large open spaces to play VR games that are more active where I'd have to worry about hitting things in full VR vs mixed reality where I can see everything and still have fun. I truly wish the display was mini led like the Quest Pro. I'd pay extra for that with face tracking and eye tracking.

i would agree if i could say that i was confident that the mr will really get some more serious support. basically it could really shine.. but i just doubt that it will get the support it might truly earn. Common, ok, the lenses but i still rather have fantastic graphics with ok resulution than an "underpowered car" a system with fantastic resolution but bad graphics(take a close look on your home avatar icon on the menue bar, its not even round..) how did they let this meta home and avatars pass.. good lord.. i was like "man really!? a 2d background to compensate for what , that lo poly bs around me!?" and if this is still the quest 2 home, why is that, because they rushed it? i dont want to know how many q3 are on their way back to the stock piles.. EDIT: if you do not have a pc, or if this will be your only headset, buy it. i own a quest 2 and a rift, and mainly am into pcvr.

3D in the quest 3 is amazing, John is absolutely right. Gaming is great but for me the killer app has been movies. The resolution is amazing and with the 4xvr app you can play mvc-encoded files (i.e. full-quality) without any transcoding on the go. Being on the plane and watching avatar never gets old lol

That surprised me with the Quest 3. I've never gotten very strong 3D effects from my own 3D projectors and TV in the past and previous VR headsets had an ok effect but with the Quest 3 it was significant. I can see depth so much better in 3D.

Pimax looks like retrofuturism with the size, cables and angular design. Things massive. Also lacks a lot of refinement from what I understand, although I've never tried one. The fact that it was released with standalone hardware that's not yet implemented certainly supports that. It's not like the XR2 SOC was free. Likewise the fact that despite being cabled it still requires a battery pack for use.

Def. get an elite strap or halo strap (whatever you prefer). It'll make all the difference in the world. Honestly the basic strap is such a bad move for having good first impressions. Wish they'd put a *little* more thought into that. But ah well, Meta makes weird moves all the time. At least their hardware (and constant feature-updates to the devices) is solid.

generational leaps like those from PS2 to PS3 are not really a thing anymore. By PS3 and Crysis graphics already achieved 90% of graphics today in terms of overall looks - but higher resolution, more detail and better physics-based shaders do add that extra shine... either way, Quest 2 mostly looks like PS2 with rate exceptions and Q3 is really looking like it can handle better PS3-like graphics. Does this look ancient? Maybe, but games from that generation are still quite popular today: Skyrim, GTA V, TLOU, Dark Souls... Bulletstorm too and it's coming to both Quest systems...

@BenGoodsonModular not likely to see major graphics changes until the quest 2 is finally phased out (roughly 1.5-2 years). The quest 3 will definitely top out at xbox 360 level graphics, which is a feat in itself for VR mobile processing

Well it's backwards compatible, so despite the raw processing power increase of the Q3 you won't see it really being pushed until you get Q3 only titles. Take a couple of years I think, and possibly not until the launch of the next generation. I really hope standalone headsets move (or add) a higher tier with laptop grade performance though. The Q3 has 3.5 TFLOPS of FP32 performance, which is admittedly a very flawed metric for comparison. Still, that's about the equivalent of a Radeon R9 380 or Geforce GTX 770 in sheer compute, which are GPUs I wouldn't even consider PCVR capable.

i might send mine back, currently debating it here. I have to lie to myself not to speak out the truth, at least for me, the oculus rift is the best headset you can buy, ok resulution, light, works fine, best controllers, best black levels, popping colors, best design, best earphones, usable microphone, best on board headstrap..best software, best,rip, oculus home n avatars, best looking menue also close up, DIRECT connection to the graphics card, best compatiblity for all kinds of applications. currently just super frustrated that the stand alone cant even replicate better graphics from 2008. For me the turning point was when i realized that pop one has slow downs on the Q3 + wasnt rescaled..."how long do i have to wait until i see how good it could be, if at all.." "am i about to pay 550bugs for gimmicky MR applications" i just did, but i said, i have to overthink if i really want to still, my new beetle outside was the same price

that strap aint that bad.. it can be better yes, that's true. I dont know the quest 2, but coming from the Rift S, it was a huge upgrade for me. Better res, handtracking is awesome, it's small and light, pancake lenses, wireless. I think it's cheap, compared to other headsets (PCVR) with a lot of features that more expensive headsets don't have. Pro tip: buy a powerbank at around 20Watts. I got 2 of them, and if i want to i can be in vr whole day long. No need for an overpriced strap with a battery.

Everything is better except the sound. Quest 3 has the worst sound of any Quest headset for me. The bass drowns out all the other frequencies.

Dead pixels/dirt in lenses is a real problem for these headsets. Nearly every single headset has them to varying degree.

Q3 is the best wireless PCVR headset in the market. It has wifi 6e and when using virtual desktop it looks and runs really well.

Quest 3 optics are so beyond quest 2, I don't know how anyone could think it isn't a huge upgrade. I tried to do something in my quest 2 the other day and omg it's so blurry and the sweet spot is so small. I can't believe I could play on it before.

Meta quest 3 is an improvement over the previous, but not by much in my opinion. At least in term of video game graphics. The UI looks noticeably better though. VR desktop is awesome.

We haven't seen anything built for the Q3 either yet. Just a few resolution upgrades or added shadows (that one's major though). But we're very, very firmly in the ''cross-gen'' phase of this platform.

correct but i look at it laying on the carped since 3 days without me lifting it up, but i went into pop one with my daily driver rift. how is that? this is because meta rushed the release and doesnt even offer a "first steps" application, you can only download the robot (rift.. or let us be honest, whats left of the robot) and the q2 first steps)as the name says q2) asgards wrath comes out wooping 2 month later...and we know this was optimized on q2 hardware.. man we just DONT KNOW if or what this thing can do and i am a little pissed about that @@KindOldRaven i am feeling like getting a job at facebook and fire the staff.. what a circus must that tech giant be

the only reason why the cv1 isnt in every household is because the marked didnt want it. its the electric car in the 90s. Now they milk the smartphone chips, i dont get it to be honest. Normally we should play spiderman and dead island 2 in VR , i mean the FULL GAME not 1/16 of it, like horizon.. damn... in alyx i was angry at times, why loading so long for what, if i can play gta5 in VR, basically without loading screens with only the peripherical part missing.. they even restrict themselves within one company whern i look at sony

Vr doesn’t need more cpu or gpu power it needs better accessibility and functionality. Until we can achieve something like ready player one nobody will invest into VR even with photo realistic graphics.

Quest 3 is better in terms of performance and features with the exception of a grainy passthrough. However the Quest 2 has better battery life and Microphone. Until meta improves the battery and Microphone. I would avoid the 3 for now.

Those are non-issues. The mic isn't bad for many people. The battery only dies fast if you use mixed reality. When used for VR, the battery is pretty much the same as Q2. Meta already added a battery saver update that kicks the graphics back to "quest 2 mode". Avoid all you want, I refuse to go back to the Quest 2

I would suggest recording yourself and hear yourself. Then compare to the 2 and you will see what I mean. The battery saver is a joke as it downgrades back to quest 2 making it pointless to begin with. If I am paying $200 more than I better expect better graphics and better battery life. Also that Passthourgh better be clear or else.

Battery issues can be solved with a 20 watt Power Delivery (10,000 mah, $16-$20) power bank. This should exend the playtime by 2 1/2 to 3 hours giving you a total playtime of around 4 hours or more. I say its an essential purchase just second to a new head strap ($30). I would add one more and I would suggest a silicone facial cover ($10). A shame it wasn't included TBH. Once you get those 3 upgrades your good to go. Though I suggest 2 power banks which allows you to hot swap them giving you much more flexibility when playing your Q3 and basically solving the battery issue.

Who cares? People who see these in stores and think they need more than just the headset to use them. That's who. PCVR is just a bonus feature for these devices.

I got Quest 3 as my first VR headset, and frankly I'm quite disappointed. I feel like VR is still in its very early stages. The main thing it's supposed to be good for is immersion, but I just do not feel immersed. E.g. I vastly prefer watching movies on my 2D monitor because the Quest screen is way too low res, the blacks are nowhere near black and it doesn't fill my vision, so I'm still aware that I'm wearing a headset and looking at a shitty low res screen. The comfort, battery life and content selection is bad too, but I knew that before I got it. I still think VR is going to be big in the future, but not for at least 10 years, I don't think the tech is nowhere near good enough for good VR experiences. I know that some people enjoy VR even in its current form, but I wouldn't recommend it for the general public. It feels weird that it's pushed quite hard to consumers despite still being in its early stages.

It's not wierd at all that it's pushed to consumers. You're looking at it the wrong way. Nobody was complaining when the NES came around. The quest platform far exceeds an NES, and it's only at the beginning stages. To grow, you sell the early stages to the public. No device just started perfect, just look at smart phones.

Sounds like you needed a PCVR or PSVR2 experience. That’s actual VR immersion. Quest 3 is basically a mobile VR laptop that plays games. Still love my quest 2 though.

@@chrisbrown113096 I'm not sure how PCVR/PSVR differs from the Quest experience. I've tried PC VR over airlink and virtual desktop. But my issue is not the displayed content, it's the screen itself. And it turns out that Quest 3 has one of the higher resolution screens and better lenses. Despite that, it looks bad to me. For me to actually feel immersed, I'd need an OLED screen, with around 2-3x the brightness, at least 2x the resolution and like 130-140+ horizontal FoV. E.g. being in a virtual cinema does not feel real to me, not because of the virtual environment or graphics, but simply the display which is not able to simulate how it would look in real life.

@@MultiZymethSK it differs a lot. No offense but if you haven’t experienced it then you can’t really say it’s not. Graphic fidelity is a huge thing for VR immersion. Playing VR on high end hardware with high resolution with HDR/OLED is a game changer. Hard to get immersed on oculus when games look like IPhone graphics. Just saying , that’s why I suggested PCVR/PSVR2.

What is the point of comparing Quest 3 to Quest 2? This has been done to death. Of course Quest 3 beats the Quest 2 in most ways. Every youtuber in the world has done this. If it was a comparison between other headsets, then would be of use.

Done to death? Not everyone watches VR youtubers lol.. a ton of people come to digital foundry for hardware reviews or graphics performance. It's cool that they did this because now their fans get an idea of where easily affordable consumer VR is at.
