Oculus Quest VRNRGY Battery pack (and VRNRGY protective cover) review

In this video, I go over the Oculus Quest VRNRGY Battery pack and the Oculus Quest VRNRGY cover. TLDR: the battery sucks, but the cover isn't half bad. The VRNRGY Battery pack just doesn't put out enough power to actually charge the Oculus Quest while in use, from my testing it only puts out 1.14a or so. You'll need 2.4a to charge and use the Quest at the same time.
The Oculus Quest VRNRGY cover isn't half bad though. Fits OK, and so far hasn't caused any overheating issues for me. If I notice it starts to I'll update this description. For $10, and so far the only cover for the actual body of the quest, I like it. The battery is friggin awful though, don't get it.

lol....good on you Tyco Tec ...not only are you the only reviewer to tell the truth about this item, you went above and beyond by explaining the actual composition of this truly dodgy bit of kit...did you notice, by the way that in the instruction booklet, that the anomolous barely hidden round socket that you mention, is dubiously passed of as a "socket for future upgrades"?

I'll stick with my Anker powercore 10000 Mah PD Redux 2.4 amp charging out the USB-C keeps me at 100% until it runs out of power. And at 27$ with free shipping from Amazon, It's half the price.

Ty i love you content but i have a Problem. I wanted to build the Frankenquest but now that the deluxe audio strap is gone and i think the production is discontinued, I don't know how to pimp my quest for my liking.. Can you help me out with it? I know you have your Frankenquest and you don't test other products that make the quest more comfortable, but maybe a shout-out to good alternatives now that the deluxe audio strap isn't sold anymore

Thanks! So, I've heard the Vive strap will be back in stock sometime this month, they're readily available in Europe now. I will be getting the GoQuestVR.com halo strap to review (and will remove my DAS for it), but it won't be for like another several weeks. I've heard good thing about their latest version.

@@tycotech search helmet counterweight in amazon. They are used to offset the weight of Night Vision Goggles on military helmets. It comes with 300g of weights included but you can add more or your own. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on purchasing them so I'll give my review on the facebook page when I get them

I wear glasses and use it without the spacer. Just be careful and check they're not hitting the lenses before you really get into it! lol

A few weeks on, is the VRNRGY protective cover still issue-free? I haven't actually seen many reviews of front covers. Kinda worried I'd wreck my Quest by running into a wall, but also worried about losing tracking if I do get a cover.

No Context VR did a review and unboxing, and the VR Energy gave a reply to some of his critiq in the comments. Seems like they were trying really hard to talk away the issues, but none of what they said seems to make up for the short comings. I don't have a Quest yet, but thanks for this vid. I know to avoid that battery pack.

I just read their response on that video, saying you can't put too much energy into the quest (justifying the weak output of the battery) would also mean you couldn't use the included charger while in use. Clearly you can (why Oculus included a rather long cable). They're super shady...

I thought that VRNrgy Protective Cover was garbage. Given I don't have the frankenquest but it limited the head strap movement up and down to adjust the headset to get your sweet spot, limited maneuver of the headstrap up so you can put on new face plates, and overall was a giant headache. I removed mine. It did feel high quality, but I wouldn't recommend that thing to my worst enemy.

I arrived and got my quest already have a problem, in the app when i try to download rec room or buy a game it says ready to be installed i click it and its says headset not found and when i try to download it on the quest it just loads, any fix for this?

Man I wish I had seen this review before. Not only is the battery pretty poor, the straps somehow give me pain in the back of my head. The only upside is that while it doesn't charge enough, it does give me approx 2 hours extra game time as it just makes the device discharge slower..... However, the battery is flat after that. Nowhere near as advertised.

This review came late for me. I got Vrnrgy batteries and not happy with it. Its just extends the playtime for 2 hours. Piece of crap for $50.

I bought an Anker powerCore 20100mAh external battery for about 30 euros (think that is about 25 dollars?) And it can get multiple charges while playing, it extends the battery for easily 5 hours, so if the headset would be fully charged you could play for almost 8 hours straight

I never ever disagree with you Ty but I have to with that rubbish cover. I bought it after seeing this review and its utterly useless, especially with the DAS. I'd be amazed if you still have it on. Dreadful product. Keep up the good work though as we need your valuable input!

The battery pack charges slower however, but it gives your device a enough juice to last up to 6 hours from a FULLY charged headset, so as your headset battery depletes, it gradually replenishes it which i think is safe. so please do not say it sucks because it actually does not, but the price may be a little on the high side which is very true but the vrnrgy pack is really good.

no it doesnt. and yes, it does suck...the circuit is designed for a small head lamp. that's why it has the extra round socket in it. you may think it;s safe, but it isnt..nor is it remotely fit for purpose: it is some dodgy cheap ass, non dedicated components from the site bangbanghot in a shabby plastic case.

I don't think you made a good honest review of the vrnrgy battery pack. I think you don't just like it due to the high price which is ok, but to say it does not perform well is false. I had purchased the pack during the pre-order at a cheaper price and I must tell you that it does perform very well or at least up to the expectations of a 7000mah battery. You did not even show us that you tried it on or put it on your head set.. you made a rushed video because it seemed to me you did not want to temper with you modified oculus quest. A little disappointing in your review for the first time. The pack gives you a good 6 hours plus combined from a fully charged headset, I have used it and I am still using it. I was not paid for this but I think when you want to give a honest review show us that you actually tested it and not a rushed 20 minute video. You have a lot of followers who look up to your reviews and this might be misleading simply because you don't like it pack due to its price and not due to its functionality.

@@whiskertango9382 yes i do and it works really great I tell you. it was fully charged before I started using it, both devices.. and after a couple of hours of game play, i still had about 80% in my headset battery

@@PlayerOneOfLagos I tested it using a USB voltmeter, at only 1.14a out it simply won't charge the Quest... There's NO way it'll give you 8 hours of video watching as advertised. At best, the Quest might last an extra hour, maybe 90 minutes, but after that, there isn't enough power to run the quest. And powering the Quest like this is really hard on the battery and can cause heat issues.
