I wish you uploaded this video a few hours back because i installed my new Avant 4 today with the backup camera and was wondering why it would not work. Turns out i tried every wire but the right one for the 12v on the unit... Keep up the good work!

That red wire coming off video cable is for instant on in reverse. Hooks up to after market stereo with camera ability marked reverse gear input. On the other end of cable it will hook up to reverse light. After hooked up it will signal the radio that we are going in reverse and the radio will leave one mode to back up camera and when put in drive it will go back to the last mode you where on. Thats wire is not for the led. I learned the hard way lol....

Nice video! I also got the Avin 4 (which is so much better than any other Android unit btw) with the I-Bus App, and you can set the I-Bus App so that the PDC image appears as an overlay over your current screen. So in your case, when selecting reverse and see the backup camera view, you can have the I-Bus PDC graphic displayed as an overlay which is great.

Seeing this I will have to redo mine. I didn't take the back panel off the trunk button, but instead, I just went ahead and made a notch so the wire can be fed through. It leaves a bump which is a bit concerning because the wire is pushing against the trunk panel and the trim >_

Great video. I will be installing my camera to the same head unit shortly. I do have a question however, have you had any issues with your radio affecting other areas of your vehicle? Shortly after installing my eonon headunit with the canbus decoder provided by eonon my clutch fan starting running full power (even when it shouldn’t be on) then my cluster analog gauges stopped working. I’m wondering if others such as yourself have had issues with the headunit or the canbus decoder creating faults in their vehicles or if there independent coincidences happening with my M3.

Evan, I recently purchased a AVIN 4 for a 2005 BMW 330ci ZHP including the backup camera and the wireless setup (transmitter/receiver). First question, when you tested the camera, it appeared you had some device in the passenger-side floor to provide a constant 12V to the camera. What did you use? My AVIN 4 has a RCA labeled "Rear Camera-In". I connected the backup camera (AVIN product) to the reverse trigger wire in the trunk (blue/yellow) and the reverse ground (brown wire). At the headunit, I connected the RCA cable (yellow male end) to the "Rear Camera-In". AVIN customer support stated that the red wire which branches off the RCA does not need to be connect. End result ... vehicle placed in reverse, headunit switches to rear camera screen but only displays a "yellow triangle". I tried the wireless setup, same result "yellow triangle". I followed AVIN customer support instructions for wiring the receiver ... RCA plugs into "Rear Camera-In" RCA female, blue wire connects to "pink" "Brake-In" wire. AVIN customer support had me disconnect the blue wire to see if the camera would display ... it did not. AVIN sent me two replacement backup cameras. Same result, no image displayed when vehicle is placed in reverse. Headunit switches to the backup camera screen but only displays a "yellow triangle". I then tested the two replacement backup camera with my TV and a car battery. Same result with each camera ... no video output. It seems unlikely that both backup cameras are inoperable but they are. I have been trying to contact AVIN customer support for a week with no replies. It appears that AVIN changed the contact location and website to California for "Live Chat" and possibly emails. Today I also messaged through AVIN's Facebook page. So far no replies.

Evan can you give more details from the spring whitch you have mounted in you trunk suspension so the trunk opens "automaticly" or even a video how to do it. :D

Evan with this installation donyoubhave to tap into the rest tail light bulb for power to engage it or do we have another alternative?

Great video Evan, thank you! I ordered the same camera. Have you had any issues? Sometimes the video will freeze on the screen on the last frame. For example I'll put it in reverse and the video will be live, I go forward (like for a K turn) put it in reverse and the video displayed is the same video from the first time I put it in reverse, and there's no live feed just a frozen image.

Evan, you need to change that trunk lid rubber hose (almost every E46 has a torn one) and share the part number with us. :)

Hi man nice video.. i need your help i have M3 E36 stering wheel in my e46 (looks fantastic) but i dont have cables becouse my previous from old stering wheel dont fit connectors form the new one do you know witch cables fit ? It is multifunction so mabye some reduction to make it work. I am totaly dumb or i cant find it... big pain Soo if you know what cables i need or reduction can you send link please? don't some BMW's have a backup cam that is mounted behind/under the trunk roundel ? i think they do but i am not sure if they have it where the roundel pops out a little at the bottom when you put the car in reverse and then goes back in when the car is in drive or if the roundel is just slightly tilted out at the bottom all the time i wonder if they sell an after market one like that or if a factory one could be retrofitted to the e46 , i imagine the badges are all the same size diameter wise so i don't see why not unless there is not enough depth behind it

I got the exact same setup after seeing this video. Installed it exactly like how you do it but when I put the car in reverse the camera won’t show up. Do you have any idea? I don’t have the IBUS tho

You are the first guy I’ve seen doing mods on a e46 or e90 that drives a proper BMW. 3 pedals is the only way to go. I bought the eonon headunit for my 6speed e90 and it’s was the best choice I ever made
