The Off Grid Experience

Жыл бұрын

Slowly but surely making progress on bedroom addition. Hauling materials to cabin site takes a lot of time. Six boards at a time.
Got a new wood stove to serve as my outdoor kitchen in the warmer weather.

Jamie, after watching your Christmas/Holiday vid I was so impressed with your cabin. So last eve and today has been spent binge watching your cabin build. Your cabin is a work of art, creating a warm rustic charm that captivates the beholder. I’ve watched Shawn James and the Outsider build their cabins but yours has been the most interesting. The fact you did this completely on your own, the hours of hard work you put into it, your patience and attention to detail is beyond remarkable. I am in awe of you. I sincerely hope you get hours, years, of enjoyment at it, listening to the sounds of nature surrounding you in the forest as you drink your tea and rock in your chair. I can understand why you enjoy the fall and winter to spend time there, the wood crackling in the fire, the peace and calm there. Thank you for sharing this with us. I hope you relax and enjoy before starting your next project, you definitely earned it.

Really appreciate the kind words. I'm glad you found the channel and build videos interesting. I'm a fan of both Shawn James and the Outsider's work as well. It's a big reason I decided to build a cabin in the woods. Looking forward to sharing more videos soon. Take care!!

Little by little I am understanding the assembly system of the walls. I think you are doing an extraordinary job. The cabin, every day, is more beautiful and complete. Nice addition to an already nice little cabin. Step by step is the best approach. Trying to go big too soon can be overwhelming. Way to go! If I may ask, did you have to do any weight calculations, to see if the footings/stilts you built on would hold the weight of all the wood in the cabin? Great progress and it's looking good!
@TheOffGridExperience
@TheOffGridExperience Жыл бұрын
No weight test. I just figured double 2x10 rim beams sitting on top of 6x6 posts every 4 feet could pretty much hold any weight since the weight would be evenly distributed. It "feels" solid and shows no signs of failure or movement at all.

Not sure I understand your question? The walls are all three 2x8's glued and screwed using 2.5" screws.

The middle one that s sandwiched. Does it have to be a certain measurement sticking out, like 2 inches or 1 and a half or ? To be more clear, does the tongue and groove have to certain measurement? Thanks!

I hate to ask, but a few videos back you mentioned that a guy told you about a new way to "butt and pass" but I can't find which video it is or what his name/website was. Can you tell me which video to watch please? Thanks....Greetings from Texas....John B.

No window or door in the bedroom what if you have a fire. I haven't watched the end of this video yet. Plus a window for a view.

I guess with six inches of boards a person does not need insulation regardless right

I really enjoyed watching these videos. Everything except the almost constant dropping of tools. Especially the power tools. Not just being a little rough but just dropping them from height as soon as they are not needed as if they will never be needed again. I hope viewers take away the lesson of determination and persistence from these videos and not the tool care.
