Hi there! Been watching a lot of your videos and enjoying the content. Enjoyed your discussion at the end. Now, another year later in May 2023, my how things have gone crazy. SVB, Sovereign Bk and now First Republic (a California Bk). You're spot on about the 2008 mortgage meltdown too. I was in the thick of it having been in the mortgage industry back then and again now. Sorry to hear about the break-ins. Fortunately, I haven't been a victim yet. Stay in condition yellow and stay safe my friend.

I use a 220 watt Off Grid TREK solar blanket cable locked to my SuV roof and connected to my BLUETTI AC200 MAX to charge it. IT works well to run my ICECO cooler/freezer all day and still have a full battery to charge both batteries of my E-CELLS Super Monarch Crown e-mountain bike. I love this high-tech solution. No noisy gas generator, no carrying stinky, dangerous gas cans and the ability to run my cooler all day.

Good vid Steve. Just ordered the 1000 and feel even better about the purchase after watching your vid and listening to your tips on the future. It's easy to fool ourselves into thinking that it just can't happen but like you, I have lived thru a few trying times and they do come around. Well now gas is at around $7 and it's only been 3 months since you posted. It is time to pull back and be prepared for what just may happen. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Like you, I am retired and I use my e bike everywhere I go unless there is no other way to get there. Then and only then I will get into the Land Cruiser.

It's not crazy talk at all, anyone with any sense is making preps. I took it one step further and moved to a free state south of yours because if the grid goes down I don't want to be stuck in my house freezing and then burning my furniture to keep warm, better to be where it doesn't snow, and I can always find a way to cool down in the summer if the power grid fails, I was stationed at Nellis and thought after I retired I would establish myself in Las Vegas, or the surrounding area, but I just couldn't as it kinda went too liberal for my tastes. I love Northern Nevada, and it would be a good place to be in the event, but again, much too cold in the winter. Your ideas are definitely solid.

Great post...very informative. I'm sorry to hear your property was stolen, but that could happen to any of us if the situation gets desperate again. I have a Jackery 880 with the same two 100W panels you do, and the best I can get on a sunny day in central Florida with them together is 115W. That said, I tested each one individually..one put out 95-98W and the other only 65-68W. I returned the one and am waiting on a replacement. I'm wondering what their combined output with the replacement. Hopefully at least 145W...same as the wall a/c charger. We'll see. Cheers.

I bought my Sur Ron after watching your videos. I don't think even that Jackery1000 would be much of a match for that, so I bought a dual fuel generator that I can run off the same 20lb propane tank I use for my camp stove when I'm boondocking. I do hate the noise of the generator, but it is still quieter than most. I would love a solar setup that would charge the Sur Ron and wouldn't break the bank. I think my generator was only $400. I bought a Jackery240 as well for charging small items and running a 12v heated blanket for short periods of time. Thanks for testing out the charge!

@@mmeyers111 Yeah same here. converted a spare full suspension Specialized MTB I had laying around. Hub drives only have one gear which makes it good for those who dont like shifting gears. Kinda like an auto vs a manual trans in a car. They also sell hub drive conversion kits which would still be cheaper than pre built bikes. maybe Xplorer Steve should do a ebike build series to show how easy it could be. If you are boondocking with solar where every amp counts, this is a very inefficient way to charge an ebike battery. The solar panels send power through the Jackery's charge controller to its battery. Then the Jackery's inverter has to convert DC power to AC. Then the ebike's charging brick has to convert AC power back to DC again to charge the ebike battery. Each step of the process introduces inefficiences that suck about half the power from the solar panels. It is never efficient to charge a battery with another battery. A better way to charge is by using a simple MPPT solar boost controller/charger. They cost about $30, a fraction of the Jackery. One component goes between the solar panels and the ebike battery. They can be programmed for any ebike battery. They boost the solar panel voltage to whatever the ebike battery needs, and taper the charge rate when the battery is full.
@XplorerSteveDIY
@XplorerSteveDIY 2 жыл бұрын
I made no claim whatsoever that this is the most efficient way to do it. Only that one can do it. I did not find it inefficient as the Jackery was topped off by the remaining sunlight after which it was ready for an evening of supplying power for other things.
@bdv861
@bdv861 2 жыл бұрын
@@XplorerSteveDIYAnd I never claimed that you said you were the most efficient. I'm simply making people aware that there are cheaper and much more efficient ways to do this. If someone already has a Jackery and they don't care about efficiency and/or they don't ride much, this could work. But I think most people would rather get the most out of their solar panels.

I have calculated and measured using a device, that riding my ebike, throttle only, for 1000 miles (1500km), one years use for me, costs me about $5 in electricity. Therefore the payback on any solar system would be about 100 years

I get that. The experiment was for a grid down, no gas scenario. Worked well. The value for such things depends on the circumstances. I typically use the power system for it's intended purpose- camping, recreation and to run my fridge if the power goes out for a while, like overnight. I get a lot of use out of it and to me, well worth the price. Buy once, cry once.

I get much better solar panel watts during cooler months. Be careful with your Jackery during the summer. My solar generator manufacturers warn against exposing the batteries to over 104 degrees fahrenheit. I have multiple solar panels and solar generators just in case of a power failure. Good review, but I wonder if an electric bike is right for me. I have been thinking about a portable solar system, as we usually have enough sun here in LA. Our president has warned us that there may be food shortages. As a boy scout leader, I try to Be Prepared. Take care.

I like the system. Can run my fridge and devices if the power goes out.

You don't want to get run over riding that bike on the street at 35 mph. Just take the Tesla Steve

Wow, those Jackery solar panels have horrible real life wattage results. 50-60% efficiency? Almost seems like there’s something wrong or not working right. You should get that total wattage (110-115) from just one single bifold Xtar SP100, not two.

Never been impressed with flexi panels. I would recommend normal panels if one has the room.

Luv ya Steve but broadcasting to the internet that you've got stacks of cash in the house is really, really dumb. Peace.

I would be willing to bet that the cash is secured and that the intruders would be the dumb ones! They would probably be in much less danger robbing a bank!

Yes, you should have your cleaned and sanitized bath tubs full of drinking water at all times right now.

Small intex inflatable swimming pools are an alternative if space is available. No so much for drinking, can be if needed, but for everything else. Water is still needed for personal hygiene and all other reasons. a 10 foot pool at 90% capacity holds 1185 gallons, 8 foot pool 639 gallons, 6 foot 232 gallons. Cover with premade cover or even a tarp and add a chlorine tablet floater. pool shock would be needed initially to fill but pool shock is also good to make liquid bleach if needed.
