You're off to a good start. Not being a real farmer, I didn't realize you planted right in among the cover crop. Congrats on the 5K level! You've got a great channel! Cheers Russ!

People treat cover crops differently. Some till them under. Some crimp and some plant in it green. I haven’t done cover crops in several years but in the past it always worked to plant straight in for me.

After your mention of the short on the rats, I just had to go back and read those comments. I'm 75 now and in my lifetime, I've never found a way to completely eliminate either rats or mice. The best I've ever done is reduce the population. Once they have habitat, food, and a source of water, it seems there are always a few around. Nice to see you getting started planting. Watching you set up the planter brings back a lot of good memories. God Bless.

Thanks for sharing the video Russ. Congratulations on over 5000 subscribers. Hope planting is going along for you. Yeah you never know what is going to come out of an auger at first. No you don't have many rats but it's a farm and anyone on a farm knows that you can always have a few rats and mice. I think you do a good job with your operation and I enjoy watching your videos. Take care.

Congrats on 5k. Nice to get some seeds getting put in mother earth. We're in a long dry pattern, but it's up and growing. you look a bit wet. Have your deth wheels ever get corn stalk stuck in and stopped? They're great for mud not plugging though.
@Thomasfarmstn3 ай бұрын
Never had problems with the gauge wheels clogging but always did with a solid wheel.

Glad to hear that you reached the 5000 subscribers. I have always enjoyed your videos.and see your dedication to farming. I’m always wearing the Thomas Farms hat here in Texas. I always wonder when you plant corn in cover crop does the cover crop take away any nutrients from the corn or does it help it? Hope you have a successful crop season this year.
@Thomasfarmstn3 ай бұрын
The biggest reason for the cover crops is oats, turnips and radishes roots help loosen the dirt. Crimson clover adds nitrogen so yeah.

Really enjoy your videos! Congratulations on 5,000+. I'm from a rural part of North Aalabama. Small town called Joppa, Alabama. Keep up the good work. We have some rats here too brother. Just part of county living. I prefer the country rats more than the city rats. Alot of those city rats stand on 2 legs lol...
@Thomasfarmstn3 ай бұрын
I’ve always heard of Joppa but had to google where it’s at. Close to Lake Guntersville. About an hour and half away.

@@Thomasfarmstn yes sir. Lived around this area all my life. My step dad worked for a local farmer. The farmers name was Gains Burden. Row crops and milk cows. This was back in the late 80’s early 90’s. He finally got a John Deere tractor with air conditioning. I would ride in the tractor with him. I thought I owned the world when I was riding in that tractor with my step dad. I was so blessed. I had a great dad and a great step dad. Good luck for the 2024 growing season.

Rats are a real scourge here in S.E. Arizona. I keep baited traps out year round. I can’t leave vehicles outside or rats will get under the hood and destroy wiring.

@Thomasfarmstn2 ай бұрын
Both! GMO is natural but the term is used to mislead consumers.
