Southland was the best cop show ever. I look at shows like The Rookie and SWAT and I just cringe at the writing and acting in those shows. Southland was the only cop show that made me feel like I was in the action. Also, I think it would have been badass to have Southland characters make a cameo in End of Watch since the movie came out when Southland was still airing.

As a cop and FTO, Southland is the ONLY cop show I can watch with a non-cop, or at all for that matter. Every episode I can sit there and not cringe at the writing while I think, "yeah, that could happen". My favorite quote: "this is a front row seat to the greatest show on earth". Now, I tell myself that when I have doubts about staying on. Totally agree on EMS. They are savages when it comes to jokes and anger towards repeat customers (particularly dope fiends) and I love em for it.

What do you think of The Wire?
@SandmanGotBeer
@SandmanGotBeer Жыл бұрын
@@tatocancelled7186 Very realistic in terms of how investigations can drag on. More importantly, how the working relationships among cops can be and how the internal politics can be. Luckily, I've never been a city police officer and have worked for a fantastic agency my entire career so I've never faced that, but I have friends and family that work for major city police departments and they wonder what it feels like to "work for a real fucking police department". I'm expected to do whatever it takes and however long it takes, within the law, to make the arrest. Noone gets in my way and I'm fortunate for that. The humor in the wire is top notch and it's so relatable. In police work, we all know a Jimmy McNulty or a Bunk or a Herc & Carv or a Lester.

Southland, The Rookie, and End of Watch are all based on the Los Angeles Police Department. If I'm not mistaken, the same creator for Southland and The End of Watch actually were the same person but they went through the furthest lengths possible to make the actors look and act 100% authentic which was refreshing rather than seeing the typical generic fake badge or bad acting, like it made these shows absolutely easy to watch in comparison to any other shows. I really think they should make a sequel to both End of Watch and Southland.

I’ve been a tow truck operator for 12 years. My first 4 years was a service driver so I did the small stuff. Unlock cars, changing tires, jump starts.. once I was in a flatbed, I saw lots of fatal accidents! And you’re right! The first few are definitely memorable and they can really mess with you! But after so many, it doesn’t hit you as hard! So I can definitely relate! Still hits a bit but definitely not like the first times you see a DB!

It’s so interesting to hear these guys talk about VNRs being taught, not that long ago, when in my academy in 2020 we were taught to never use them under any circumstances. Weren’t even allowed to learn them.
@OnlyCops
@OnlyCops 5 ай бұрын
This changed happened right before then 🤣 we legitimately used to VNR each other in academy for a whole day. It's still also a legal submission in MMA. Policy has changed in police circles, but the science behind how they work and the fact that it is WAY safer/more effective (when done correctly) than tasers,Bola wraps, OC, baton strikes, etc has not changed. The inability to use this to subdue highly resistant suspect will get more officers hurt and more suspects killed.

I looked young when I was 18 (like YOUNG, even in my 30s people kept thinking I was a teen or early 20s) and I was taking police science courses at my "vocational" high school. I was approached by some people before graduation to take some sort of "turbo" academy courses with the end goal of going undercover in Jr. High/Middle Schools as a student. They pushed HARD for it. But, in the end, I just couldn't imagine a life where I had to lie to everyone every day and be away from my family for extended periods of time. So I joined the Army instead. 🤷‍♀

My FTO and I got a dead body call early one morning, it was winter and cold. We got there with another unit. The other rookie looked like he was gonna barf, I hot the guys name and ran it, my FTO asked what came up. I said " Hey he just cleared up two warrants" the two FTOs laughed. The guy put a shotgun shell in a pipe and stuck it in his mouth. Weird thing is that was 30 + years ago and I still remember his name and still have the Polaroid.

Crazy how different europe and the US is with radars and stuff. At least here in France we hardly EVER have cops with radar guns, its all speed cameras and distance cameras (point to point), but by law they have to warn you that theres a speed camera in the area. FYI, as i said in your other videos i used to work privately for LEOs and state officials (worked on Mitt Romneys personal mustang :). I used to go around new england and calibrate the radars, then put a sticker on it. I do believe it's every year at least in Massachusetts it was. P.S. In the beginning you can see that ballistic panel sticker on the door panel when the guy leans into the crown vic.

So from some quick (and honestly unverified) research. LAPD does call their recruits "boot" as a reference to "boot camp" referring to the academy as they technically aren't recruits since they have not completed the academy at this point. I would love it if an LAPD FTO could clarify this though.
