"Crash Course" is the second episode of the first season on The Rookie.
Jackson is questioned as to why he didn't fire his weapon during a previous firefight, but Lopez covers for him. Chen is stuck with a temporary training officer whose style is more cautious than Tim, who is recovering from being shot. Nolan continues to face difficulties in navigating between his civilian instincts and how they affect his actions as a cop. He and Bishop are assigned a rusty old car as Nolan's punishment for damaging their vehicle. Chen finds out that Tim intentionally got her assigned to a more passive T.O. to test her commitment. Bishop is able to get a new patrol vehicle, which Nolan nearly crashes on his first drive.
The Rookie is an American police procedural crime drama television series created for ABC by Alexi Hawley. The series follows John Nolan, a man in his forties, who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department. The series is based on real-life Los Angeles Police Department officer William Norcross, who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and joined the department in his mid-40s.
The series stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin Jr., Mercedes Mason, Melissa O'Neil, Afton Williamson, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore and Eric Winter.

I don’t think that Lopez lying up for West had anything to do with who his dad was, I think it was more that he was seen as the easy rookie, if he fails you definitely did something wrong. His dad works with IA, so he doesn’t really have to do with them.

Lopez covers for West to save what she feels is her chances of moving up do to West's father. West's dad is commander of IA so has significant say and pull, unfortunately much like real life people don't know the person they hear about and often put the worst image forward. I do think West also being a "Golden Boy" also does play a part in the fear of Lopez, not only is his father some one with pull but with West showcasing high level performance just about everywhere else it would leave the possibility of people asking if it's West or Lopez at fault for him failing. By no means do I think it's correct nor do I think Lopez is approaching it properly like you said just pointing out the murky / grey area to her dilemma.

All a police officers has is their word. Once caught in a lie an officer can never be swear able in court. All the defense has to do to impeach his/her credibility on the stand with the lie.

Firstly, will there be a reaction to Officer Chen for episode 2? Secondly, I have been a huge fan of The Rookie since it came out, so you guys reacting to the show, is amazing and insightful, as it means we fans get a better perspective of what it's like to be dealing with situations like this in real life. Also, if you didn't already know 'The Rookie' is based on the real life story of Bill Norcross, who I believe is a Producer on the show.

11:23 tbf to him she sets him up She innitiates the lie (in protection of herself in the probably rare case it could stop her from being detective but also) in his mind to protect him thats why he thanks her, now if he tells the truth he wouldnt lie but she wouldn't look good So in his mind u could say he kinda protects her too Both obviously do it with clear selfish ideas in mind I can see her lying as more reasonable cause he was seen as the golden boy rookie If u fail that guy than they would question your ability as TO (I mean grey did say its not only testing the rookies)

I could totally see that, it really is her responsibility to hold him accountable so it does definitely fall on her to do the right thing. But I am always going to be an advocate for accountability and it makes my blood boil to watch cops lie

Well it wasn't the same department. Jackson works for the Mid Wilshire Department whereas his dad works for IA which controls the entirety of the LAPD in essence thus his dad is one levels above the entire Mid Wilshire department

Is it just me, or with the store backroom, as soon as he realized it was the guy, he could of just gone "Boop" on his little red button, thus like magic, the FTO would appear there and a bit later the whole department? xD

That is definitely the case, but there are some times where you don't have time or don't think to due it due to the stress or particular set of circumstances of that call. It definitely would have made it life easier 🤣

2:20 yea the body cam situation is a bit inconsistent and weird but at some point they do explain that the body cams work a few minute's back So the camera is probably running at all times just not recording any of it/saving whats recorded Idk how it works exactly but basically something like this Once turned on the body cams recoding has everything from this point PLUS a few minutes prior to turning it on Its a bit weird and idk how accurate it is but yea For me it does seem a bit like they use that situational 😅

Bodycam have a running pre roll of anywhere from 30 secs to 2 minutes (depending on policy) it runs like that so you can catch what the officer sees before he/she decides to turn it on or if they are surprised by something and don't have time to turn it on. It will delete the unused footage until the officer or another trigger sets the bodycam on to record and will attach that pre roll to the full recording. It's why you often don't get audio for the first 30 seconds of real bodycam footage.

I have never been in a gunfight but if I was in law enforcement and would freeze like that I hope I would have the decency to resign on the spot as it is a clear indicator that the job wouldn't be for me.

South Carolina officer here (sorry for the book)- chokeholds of any kind are considered deadly force and therefore can only be used in scenarios where deadly force becomes necessary. In fact, one of the key differences between Domestic Violence 1st Degree (0-10yrs) and Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature (0-20yrs) is that the offender knowingly or purposefully impedes the breathing/circulation of the victim by applying force to the throat/blocking the mouth. Across the board, there has been a lot of change in how we operate when strangulation occurs.

I was 6'6/255 and had to fight a guy that was 5'10/150. He was on pcp and it was hardest fight I ever had. He literally jumped up and ran off into a 400-acre field and stripped his clothes off. I know, because I sat in the road ( gassed and exhausted) and watched him..

Every single method head I had to fight was a huge pain in the ass. I never ran into PCP on the street, but we had a huge meth, fentenyl, and K2 issue where I was a cop.
