I've not seen this version yet but this clip makes me feel like this one's really special in its own right. The original Steel Magnolias was beautiful but this one has a different kind of flavor. It's still so touching and heartfelt. There is the same tone of fellowship between women, and mother with daughters.

I just don’t understand why Hollywood today has to have a “black version” of something that’s already been done. What is Hollywood trying to prove!? Instead doing copycat black version movies, SPEND TIME AND MONEY CREATING AN ORIGINAL STORY ABOUT BLACK FAMILIES, THERE ARE SO MANY. Seriously, this is supposed to be better than the original?

Both movies are so true. Last year,I was diagnosed stage 5- End Stage Kidney Failure. I never had enough support at age 8 in 1984 with T1D. Just like Shelby, I had a baby at age 24 yrs. Now she's my 21 yr old healthy daughter. I was induced a 1 month premature birth as she was only 6 lbs. My A1c was 6.1. I had 4 day labor. She was born at 8 month premature beautiful baby girl with C-section, Bragston Hicks contractions every 2-4 minutes too painful, no dialation, Toxemia (high BP) they couldn't allow me to push naturally, so she was born with a temporary cute cone head since she was trying to be born for 3 days! They induced me & broke my water on 4th day. I cry each time I glimpse these scenes in movies. .I'm trying to prepare for my long unwated end or live a healthy kidney donor transplant. Im blind. I'm 46 yrs old but I'm positive about the very little family support I grew up with. It's ok. I hold no bitter feelings I did not have a tough love mom like Shelby or a wonderful husband, big house, or amazing background. I just lived my life very little. I still want to pet or hug a dolphin. I haven't eaten scallops, or been to another country other than US & Mexico (born there) I'd love to visit Italy or Hawaii! I'm still too broke & pandemic is so scary..I don't have grandchildren yet! I need more college to finish my associates degree. When I started losing my sight , I lost time and driving ability. With so much stress n sadness that my own mother kicked me out of her house because I became terminally ill is too heart debilitating. My own big brother evicted me out of her house as she lied to everyone about me lying of my condition.. I just couldn't take care of her anymore. My 76 yr old mother disliked I wasn't healthy or wealthy enough so during pandemic, older brother with T2D with alcoholism & she (not diabetic) evicted us out of her home. Im more loved by my husband. I love him so much! He's made me feel things happen for good reasons. And that is what I grew up without. I feel special with him. Thank you for all the comments that help me feel normal..and these movies! 💗💓😂💕

OMG! Your story deserves a movie too! Not for entertainment. But for the human experience, the connection. The opportunity to convey and receive empathy is too much pass up. Your experience, while painful, is valuable and your story needs to be told. You will find compassion in the hearts of strangers and that is certainly not a bad thing. Thank you for sharing your experience. I was deeply moved.

The original playwright based it on the death of his sister. In the original movie, his mom was on set the day they filmed Julia Roberts Shelby dying. She wouldn't leave the set until Julia Roberts got up and walked away because she needed to see Julia get up, unlike her daughter. It was that hard to relive.

This really hits me hard...my paternal grandmother was a Type 1 diabetic, and in 2000, she had a heart attack that was brought on by her T1 Diabetes. The doctors attempted to do bypass surgery on her, but there wasn't a whole lot they could do. Me and my family all saw her fighting for her life in the ICU, and to me, the sights and sounds were disturbing to me thanks to my autism - and it also made my fears of the hospital even worse. I had expected my paternal grandmother to pull through this ordeal...she didn't. She passed away at the age of 63 in 2000. As of me making this comment, the sole surviving grandparent I have left on this planet is my maternal grandmother - my maternal grandfather was one of the many lives that were claimed during the tornado that struck Western Kentucky in December of 2021.

Cried at the original, cried at this one. In the original, Sally Field said she felt fine, could you while her daughter never could, and was always prepared to go first. I KNOW that feeling as I see my son's illness slowly sapping his strength and ability. I have NO idea how I will ever be able to deal with it when his time comes!. OK, that’s not how we did it. If we had a terminal extubation, we would quietly go in, explain what we were going to do, and then ask if the family wanted to stay while we removed the equipment. Often, the mom would want to stay. We would then give the patient Ativan to make sure they didn’t experience fear or anxiety, and an opiate to make sure there was no pain. We would then tell the family we were going to remove the equipment, and let them have a last kiss, words, etc. If someone stays, the respiratory therapist would deflate the balloon and I would take it to the side in a hand towel. We would tidy the person back up, remove all invasive lines (unless they were a coroner’s case) and then let the family back in. We don’t just walk in and disconnect the vent. People want a last image of their person at peace, not looking like a failed lab experiment. When the telemetry shows the heart has stopped, I go in and we pronounce the patient. Broke my heart, every time. ICU nurse, hospice and ED PRN.

The two movies at this scene set are different, but I think Queen Latifa created a different but just as moving performance in her scene set. Overall Sally Fields is a better actress, but when it comes to the acting here, it's just as strong of a heart connection. Especially if you play it silently. I think the music was better on the original in this scene set. And the direction of having her ask where the child is, and having the child run to grandma was better than directing her to come pick up the child. Some of the emotion is missed by doing that. But that is the direction and screen writings, not the actresses.

Third,You just saw black people in this movie automatically assumed that this is “politically correct”. Fourth, why is having a diverse cast or people with different sexuality being in movies or tv shows,”politically correct”,we are human being who also deserves representation in mainstream movies and shows (because for the longest time people like us were sidelined)and we are not political pawns,we are human beings. Finally,This movie is not politically correct,it was just lifetime channel movie remake of Steel Magnolias with black cast.(basically the same movie with different cast),I am not saying this movie perfect but to call it “political correct” because it has a black cast is so lazy,

How is this a garbage attempt at revelance? Because it’s a remake of the film from the 90s? Her brother was the one that wrote the play about her and helped create that movie. I don’t think he would have a problem with their personal story being recreated if he made it into a play and film.

for one thing the REAL family was white so whoever did this basically spat on the real life family for rewriting the movie to fit their own agenda!!

Why do they steal other movie ideas and remake them simply because they’re black? Seems lazy
