It does save you some serious bucks on fuel. But you must change oil and filter more often. I had to replace one head and have the other rebuilt. One camshaft broke in two places! Use only synthetic oil. I change oil about every 3-4,000 miles.

I just bought a 2014 1500 with it and so far my findings are it helps going downhill and maybe city driving. Country roads and interstate I see no improvement in the lie o meter readings. On windy days or towing any weight, shut it off for sure. I can see on smaller vehicles it would help, but bigger SUVS or full size trucks, the engine has to work when in 4cyl mode which uses more fuel vs all 8 cyls and plenty of power there so has to work less.

This is the same as the start-stop feature. I tried it on and off many times on two different vehicles and I always got about 1 mile to the gallon better with it off. This and using thinner oil to get the MPG ratings up so they can sell cars and trucks.

The better question is, does the AFM system save you enough on gas to warrant the potential massive repair bill down the road that happens to 50% of them. Also keep in mind the AFM system causes a lot of carbon build up in the deactivation cylinders.

Range technologies or automotive makes it plug in OBD. .works great keeps in 8 cy mode.

My 2022 Ram 5.7 just smoked with 49k miles. They had a new long block in the truck under warranty and back to me in 17 days no questions ask. My truck had all oil changes done at 4000 miles by the dealer. The service guy said it was the MSD that killed the engine, they see it all the time. Chrysler reset my 100k warranty to zero, if not for that I would delete that garbage. I don't know what to believe.

I have a 23 charger scat pack, don't know if it has MDS, it has eco mode, but that is never used. As far as the MDS I don't ever see anything in the instrument cluster showing it. I don't see any where to turn it on or off if I do have it. I only see the eco mode option on the SRT page 🤷‍♂️

Every Hemi from Chrysler has MDS due to emissions requirements. My scatpack has it, as well as my grand Cherokee with the 5.7. The MDS system killed my jeep motor so I’m getting a full MDS delete.

What percentage of your miles drive with mds on was it actually shutting off 4 cylinders? It doesn’t actually kick on over 70 mph. I’m curious what the mpg shows on the display when you are going 50mph with mds on vs off.

To permanently turn it off, yes you'll need a tuner. On the Ram I just use the buttons to enter ERS mode and turn if off whenever I drive the truck.

What’s your opinion on my 6.4 hemi, I use the 0w40 and ticks drive me crazy. Thought about different oil myself,what do you think?

Does the manual spec 0W40? I thought those were spec'd with 5W30? Maybe a 5W40 full syn would be a great compromise.

@@4-LOW yes manual does recommend 0w40 synthetic. Just curious if trying different viscosity would be a wise decision.

The 6.4 doesn't have the cam and lifter problems near as bad as the 5.7

@@tomdugan3407 The 40 number is the hot viscosity so in that case you've got excellent wear control while towing and any time the engine is up to temp, but the 0 number allows easier cold starts on a winter morning. I'd stick with that oil. My main concern is any oil where the upper number is 20 viscosity or below.

My 2005 Chrysler 300C has it. Turned it off with a Predator tuner. Fuel mileage didn’t change and it’s a lot more fun to drive.

Turning your tow/haul on turns mds off.

It really destroys lifters and camshafts.

Turning off the mds will starve the mds lifters of oil and there isn't enough oil splash from the crank to lubricate the camshaft. You will need to install the block off caps and remove the solenoids if you're running the mds off all the time or the lifters bearings, and your cam will pay the price.

The 5.7 calls for 5W-20, not 0W-20.

Use the plus and minus buttons on the steering wheel to enter Electronic Range Select mode, then you can pick how many gears the trans can use while simultaneously keeping MDS off. Tow/haul also turns MDS off but you may not get 8th gear.
