Fast food is everywhere. But I think Tokyo might have the best infrastructure for fast food in the world. From Yoshinoya to Saizeriya to McDonald's, let me eat a lot of fast food around Tokyo and explain why they're perfecting the craft of fast food.

I was just in Japan and Tokyo last month for the 1st time, what really impressed me is their food culture, everything is so accessible and even cheap compared to european standards, and you can get a healthy meal on every corner for literally five bucks. I loved it so much. Hope I can go back some day. Also great channel! Keep it up!

Tbh this isn't just a Tokyo phenomenon. You'll see this across East Asia, in SK and China as well. Seems like they care more about sales by volume than making the maximum profit per meal served.

There’s a term specifically that caters to fast food in a sit-down establishment such as Saizeria: Fast Casual.

Also, small restaurants in Japan that serve ramen, soba, udon and somen dishes are in many ways fast food restaurants because you're normally expect to finish your bowl or plate of noodles in around 10-15 minutes.

Dang, this video made me cry of homesickeness. Yes it is a video about fast food... and my parents never let me go to them... but also, it really scratches the surface of something about the Japanese food culture I miss so much!

The US (and Canada) have fast food chains for more than just burgers, sandwhiches and pizza. Like you're missing so many other fastfood restaurants (chinese, indian, italian, lebanese, greek, thai, japanese). Go to any north american shopping mall, and you will see all the types of fast food joints that exist.

Fun facts: i'm pretty sure i went to the exact same Saizeriya when i went to Tōkyō , in march this year It's not that great but it's cheap so it's okay. Also the portion are small so if you aren't that hungry , you can still eat and if you need more you just have to order 2 differents meal , nice concept.

there's a good reason i almost never have any sushi anytime i go to japan, even though i like them so much : there's just that many other food to ea. more often than not, my biggest problem is deciding what type of food i'd like to eat rather than finding a place to eat.

Oh Tokyo! I miss it, it is a city that has an orderly chaos - not sure how to explain it - Everything is made with that " extra high attention to detail", wherever you go it is clean and well organised. On a rainy day, most of the customers are offered a plastic bag to keep your umbrella tidy instead of dripping around and avoid slippery accidents too...!, In terms of food, I am amazed how affordable it is, comparing to those stale burgers and oily hot dogs in NY🤪! ....however, I enjoyed those vans where they served latino food, thats for sure! and no extra tipping☺! thats is one of the points I want to highlight from Japan, you get the service, free water and green tea and a delicious food without extra tipping. I wish I could study japanese in Japan and learn more about their gastronomy. Keep it up please👌 very interesting sight from Tokyo. I am sure it might do well for all those hard working salary men.

I understand about what you are trying to convey, with the notion that fast food should not be unhealthy image. However, I have to disagree in some parts with you. 1) Family Restaurant might be better as a comparison with diner in America. In Japan they have chain for it, yes. But, I can't consider them as fast food. 2) Having burger in the US fast food chain actually not necessarily unhealthy. How people eat compared to how they do activity actually what matters. But, yeah, this is just a way off topic I guess. Anyway, love this video as well, even though it started quite confusing and slow in the beginning. Keep up the work.

Imo Tokyo likes fast food so much, and even supermarket food, because of the fast paced rhythm of work and life that most adults live and simply because it's good. I'm from Portugal and I've never been to Japan, so I'm basing this assumption on what I've heard.

*When ppl talk about Japan style fast food and how cheap it is, they FORGET to mention* that Japan also is the Country with the *most APPROVED E-numbers, the artificial stuff* : taste, shelve lasting, juicyness, mouth feel etc. The Gov signed off on those, so companies CAN offer those foods cheaply.

Yoshinoya sadly failed in the US because of poor service from staff and idk why it's so much saltier and crappier, served in a plastic bowl with a typical disposable spoon or fork, yeaa..you were a baby before it closed so an experience you didn't miss out on. The local chicken teriyaki place was usually better. I think an aspect missing from a Tokyo or Japan expeirence to NYC is just not having rude workers and people are pretty chill. NYC you really gotta learn to ignore the world and be in your own little happy place even when there's a fight a table away at a chicken fingers joint you heard was good. Not to mention in NYC I feel more judgement just going to eat alone especially if it's not a fast food place. Food is also overpriced lot of the time and dissapointing. I've come to hate places that make burgers too big to fit in your mouth and you gotta basically knife and fork it. For me real hidden gems usually in some particular enclave.
