Anyone watching Karl’s video, beware of this product, you think you making a sensible purchase but take heed, listen to my words of wisdom, I cannot warn you enough, that buying a product like this will lead to you falling into the biggest rabbit hole that’s called sim racing that can easily empty your bank account. I started back in 2017 with a playseat challenge, basic wheel and pedals, mid range gaming PC and went off to carve a career in IRacing. 6 years later, I’ve now got a full motion rig, with VR and higher end wheels and pedals costing a fair few pounds. It becomes a real passion. However, I still look back fondly of the early days, the playseat challenge used to stand behind the door, folded, then, deployed in under 2 minutes and off I went racing, so if your new to sim racing, getting into it and your pushed for space, this really is worth your money.

3 things not to be cheap with. 1. Your mattress. 2. Shoes. 3. Racing rig and wheel.

Really helpful, I am a happy owner of a Playseat Challenge and I can now understand exactly where the new model improves over the old one: 1) pedal mount 2) leg room 3) hinge locks instead of velcro 4) larger base for stability when getting in-out. I would definitely consider it the day I get a better pedal set. I would have loved the possibility of adjusting the wheelplate height (you can only rotate it now) which for me would make the base perfect.

Thx for this 👍 Just to help you understand, I have the in between version (Actifit edition) of the Playseat Challenge. That is the one with Actifit, but still with the straps on the side. But also on this Actifit version they did already make some small adjustment, like a special metal ring on each side of the straps so it cannot fall open if the straps are not tight enough. So there is now a total of 3 version of the Playseat Challenge

Have had the OG playseat challenge for quite some time now, but after seeing a couple of reviews I decided to take the plunge and buy the challenge x today. I almost got all the way through the assembly process and then when trying to clip the pedal tray onto the chair frame base, one of the hooks snapped - it took a great deal of force to push those hooks on (almost all my weight), so I wouldn't think I'm the only one who has experienced this little design flaw. I've sent a message to playseat to see if I can acquire a replacement, but it's such a shame as the rest of the upgrades seem fantastic. It really feels more like a premium piece of kit (both in construction and comfort). Even the one thing which I thought they hadn't solved (the angle of the headrest) is mitigated by the ability to put that top frame piece in backwards to angle to headrest a little further back (better for VR racing in particular :-) ). I know I can get a 3D printed strengthening kit off of Ebay that I could use to replace the hooks, but I would rather keep it all original, and it's a bit crappy that it's snapped on the first day. I dare not remove the one that did survive, in fear of snapping that one as well.

I have the Playseat actifit. It doesn't have the suede material on it. There's only one thing I would change I'd the angle of the headrest. It's angled too far forward. It pushes my head forward and I get neck pain from it.

Great review mate! I purchased the Playseat Challenge Actifit and after 10 minutes of use I decided to return it, the pain in my legs was too much... those metal triangles were killing me. Now I purchased the Challenge X (using your affiliate link) and I am waiting it to be delivered. I hope this one is more comfortable as you mentioned in this video.

Thanks for a superb presentation. I wonder if some1 knows if the pedalbracket for thrustmaster TX Leather (Probably same as t300 pedal) fits to this chair. If not is there brackets or other solution for those pedals in this chair.

I recently bought the Playseat Challenge OG (Actifit) and I am returning it. The build quality is solid, but as a fellow of 5ft11" and around 100kg, my tights touch the triangular brackets holding the adjustable strips on the side of the chair, which can make long sessions of gaming quite discomfortable. The place where you lay your head is a bit weird as well for taller guys (leaves you with a small gap behind your neck region). Funny enough, my 12 years old nephew really liked it and felt quite comfortable on it. But this is for common use (me and him), I would like something that could be useful for both of us. I will invest in the Playseat Challenge X, though it seems to be out of stock in most places. As it seems, my thights will fit more comfortably in that one.

Will the shifter and handbrake mount mods you did on the original playseat challenge work the same on the challenge x?

Great review Karl. Before I purchased ChallengeX, I had similar thougths and finally I decided to buy the new one. I think it has improvements than deserve it (pedals mount, shifter mount, stability...) I watched videos of the old one where people had to make some arranges in orden to gain stability or add a shifter bar. Nos, I have a question for you. I’m 187cm tall (6 1.6 inches) long arms and the wheel is very close to me. Can I move backwards the wheel plate to separate the wheel from me or it is fixed to the bar?

Karl, the back of the X version is smaller? Strange that the leg space is wider but the back not!? Would that feel uncomfortable in a long race for your back?

Karl what’s the best VR headset for sim racing? The quest 2 seems to be pretty jaggy and shimmery, not sure if that’s a thing across all headsets or not but a really nice clean display would be incredible

Karl, would it be safe to assume that that the pedal mount (the whole assembly) would work with the classic Challenge, given that the tube diameter is the same and the two clamps connecting the pedal bars to the chair should work? I’m thinking of emailing Playseat and asking if it would be possible to purchase just the pedal assembly from them.

I bought the playseat challenge acti fit on amazon in March of this year, and I can confirm it is the acti fit material. Idk why they haven't updated the picture.

Hi Karl love the channel. Ive just bought a Playseat Challenge X and initially will be using it with my existing Logitech G29 wheel and pedals. But down the line I would like to get a direct drive wheel, maybe the new Cammus C12. However Im aware that this Playseat Challenge X is more suited to Logitech kit, especially the pedal plate. Would you consider doing a video on compatibility of other manufacturers kit with the Challenge X seat? Thanks!

Advice needed! You’ve tested them all. Don’t plan to fold away much just move them around and don’t want a bulky rig not enough room. I’m between Playseat X and the NLR 2.0 stand. Apex felt cheap and came broken. NLR 2.0 came missing pieces but the quality was amazing. I have a good office chair for a stand but no angle adjustment. Since NLR 2.0 and Playseat X are similar price which one do you recommend?

Just got done racing on the older model Challenge. It works just fine, still. I'm 191cm / 100 kg and I have no issues. I do have a Trophy in the mail, but just because this thing isn't really strong enough for my new DD wheel. Would still recommend either Playseat Challenge for an entry level G29/G920 style setup.

How much weight can it hold? I’m 6’1” 250 pounds

It's $500 in Australia, I don't know why they sell this so expensive. It literally feel like a camping chair with some extra bars. Next Level GT is half of this price.

Hello from Brazil! Those seats are quite expensive here and the Challenge X is about to arrive on the stores next month. But with the arrival of the new version the Actifit is on sale. Should I wait 1 month more and take the Challenge X and pay a lot for it or take the Actifit on sale? I was afraid of the problems with the lifting pedals during hard braking. Ps.: it will be my first time on racing sims and I will be using a Thrustmaster T300RS.

Hi Karl, on the old Playseat you had tried some motherboard support brackets. Can you tell me if the support brackets of the original Playseat are compatible with the Playseat x?

Thanks for this. At 5'11 and 90kg, the original is a little cramped, and the pedal setup less than ideal as you mentioned. Given how much Ill be using it, I think I will put my playseat on ebay and pick up the new one - the extra money will be worth it in the lomg run for comfort levels. Someone PLEASE help me decide between Playseat Challenge X and NLR GT Lite Pro! I need to sit at least 13in high, and need the wheel to be mounted around 29in high. I'm using V3 Pedals but still have an old Logitech g920 wheel so don't have to worry about DD strength. AND I need to move it/put away between uses.
