Hope you all enjoy the video! Just one note; this video was immediately manually copyright claimed for a random section of the video (which, as per usual, is a part where literally just movie dialogue is being said 🙃 ) BUT it is only blocked in just Italy and San Marino. So big apologies to folks who are in those locations! My dispute was rejected only hours after I sent it in. Thankfully it’s not fully, fully blocked but it is immediately demonetized. Oh well, I’ll take that over being fully blocked. So sorry again to the folks in those two locations!

"Big man" is Andre the Giant ... who was a pro-wrestler but at heart a really gentle soul. Sadly he had health issues that meant he was in a lot of pain during the filming of this.

My favorite story is this. Mandy Patinkin played Inigo Montoya. His father died of cancer when he was pretty young. So when he's fighting the Sux Fingered Man to avenge his father, Patinkin was visualizing it as him literally battling his dad's cancer. When he says, "I want my father back, you son of a bitch," that is from the heart. There's a tik tok where someone asks him about that because they lost their parent to cancer and it meant a lot to them. He confirms that's what was going on in that scene. I f'ing love that.

"Iocane. I bet my life on it!" "...but it's odorless." That's by far my favorite detail in this movie, and it's a shame more people don't pick up on that. It's established that Humperdink is an elite tracker, and this shows how good he truly is.

There are a lot of OK or good movies where there is possibly some room for improvement. There are some great movies where there is very little you could do to make it better but maybe you could make a different movie inspired by or spun off from. The Princess Bride is one of a very few movies that most people agree is simply perfect the way it is and there is no way to improve it and it should be left alone forever. The only thin it seems like you ever really hear people comment on is the effects for the ROUS and then you remember everything you are seeing is from the point of view of a child picturing the events of the story as it is being read to him.
@Muck006

@@hackerx7329 The problem is that "in the current Hollywood climate" any "improvements" will be ideologically charged and thus destroy the story. Just look at what Disney did to Star Wars or what was done to Terminator and Ghostbusters and and and ...

@Muck006 Interesting, because the rescue and revival of the Star Wars franchise after Lucas's disastrous Episodes 1-3, the Terminatir films & TV series, and Ghostbusters reboots and sequels were arguably fantastic. Our family has enjoyed how they expanded the story canons far beyond the creators' imaginings. Looking forward to Ahsoka!

William Goldman adapted his own novel, which was written in 1973 (meaning the line about "Never get involved in a land war in Asia" was an EXTREMELY topical joke). The gimmick of the book is that it's supposedly the "good parts version" of an extremely long and dull book that Goldman's father would read to him as a kid, with numerous author's notes about what was supposedly taken out. The movie's ingenious method of capturing the same tone was to create the whole framing story with the sick kid and the grandfather.

Back in the brief moment when Quibi was a thing, Rob Reiner got a bunch of stars together to recreate the whole film piece by piece in their various COVID lockdowns. Easily the highlight was Rob himself playing the sick grandson, and his father Carl Reiner playing the grandfather, in his final acting role just a couple weeks before his death. Sadly, there seems to be nowhere you can now view it after Quibi shut down, but it's great just knowing they were able to do it.

❤ "As you wish." ❤ Fun Fact: Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin performed all of their own sword-fighting after many hours of training. According to Rob Reiner, the only stunt performed by Elwes' stunt double was one flip during the "Chatty Duelists" scene. Historical Fact: There really was a "Dread Pirate Roberts" in real life. His name was Bartholomew Roberts, also known as Black Bart, who operated in the Caribbean in the early 18th century. He is reckoned by many to have been the most successful pirate of all time. Gentle Giant Fact: Despite his character Fezzik's almost-superhuman strength, André René Roussimoff's back problems at the time prevented him from actually lifting anything heavy. Robin Wright had to be attached to wires in the scene where Buttercup jumps from the castle window into Fezzik's arms because he couldn't support her himself.

One of my all time favorite movies! I fell in love with Cary Elwes from then on. He and I have the same birthday (October 26). I finally got to meet him last year, got an autographed photo of him signed. Was also supposed to get a photo op pic with him, but got delayed and missed my op. Wasn’t able to make it up because he had a panel and then a plane to catch. I was sooooo pissed! I’m so glad I decided to get that pic signed that morning, because I’d hadn’t planned on it. It literally was a last minute decision because I knew I’d probably get to talk to him more that way and I was right. If you ever get a chance, listen to his book on Audible about making the movie. He’s the one reading it and it’s awesome! Some of the other actors from the movie actually participate and read passages about themselves too which makes it even better!! The book is called: As You Wish Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride

That slow burn from when the Impressive Clergyman first said mawwige until your eventual laughter was a highlight. Andre the Giant was a firmer professional wrestler. Everyone loved him. But his back was so bad he couldn't actually hold Robin Wright (her debut. Later Jenny in Forest Gump). The Six-Fingered Man is Christopher Guest, lead guitarist Spinal Tap and husband of Jamie Lee Curtis. Indigo is Mandy Pantinkin, notorious for being hard to work with, particularly on his only season (S1) of Criminal Minds. But he loved this film and actually tears up talking about it in the secial features. Billy Crystal and Carol Kane in massive make-up as Miracle Max and Valerie. Some adlibbing in that scene. Chris Sarandon (Susan's ex-husband) as Humperdink was a big influence on Farquad in Shrek. Rob Reiner's second film as director. He first was Spinal Tap. He later did When Harry Met Sally.

The albino torturer was a well-known British comedian, Mel Smith, who was part of a well-known mid 80s comedy duo on British TV (and also starred in the legendary turkey, Morons From Outer Space). A curious casting choice for the film... Nice to see Peter Falk in anything - hope one day you get to see Peter as himself in the singular 'Wings of Desire' (featuring disillusioned angels moping around the human world in still divided Berlin, before the Berlin Wall came down).

Has anyone told you the true story of Mandy Patinkin's father and his real life approach towards this character? Mandy Patinkin's father died from cancer just as production started, and Mandy said he was filled with an unhealthy rage...but a rage he couldn't put on anyone. So he used the idea of "The Six-Fingered Man" as someone as a way to personify his father's cancer. And he said that the line "I want my father back, you son of a bitch" was catharsis for him. And if you look back, you can see that. You can see that he means it as he says it. And it's so goddamned good. He uses his anger towards his father's cancer to say that to the 6 fingered man. "I want my father back, you son of a bitch".

This movie is for everyone boys and girls it is such a great movie. This movie is based on a book. The writer of the book also wrote the script of the movie . The scene with Westley and the six finger man when the six finger man hit him in the head was real and the actor who plays Wesley had to go to the hospital. There was real spark between the main actors in real life Westley and Buttercup that's why it works. Andre the giant used his big hands to protect Robin Wright (Buttercup ) head when she was cold on the set. You should also see Wilow, Lady Hawk, The Never Ending Story and The Labyrinth 1986. This is one of the movies with an epic soundtrack like Conan The Barbarian or Highlander which you should also see. one of my favorite quotes from this movie "“We are men of action, lies do not become us.”"

This was special for me as an 11 year old kid. It was the segue for me into adult comedy with its use of subtle humor and really intricate character-building that comes into bloom slowly. It was also a new type of narration for me, which I just fell into it and was ensorcelled from the first frame to the last. I fell in love with it the instant that it ended. Just my kind of story-telling to this day. Christopher Guest steals the show for me as the 6-fingered man / Count Reugan (sp?) along with the extraordinary Mandy Patinkin as Inigo Montoya. And Andre the Giant was adorable. And Billy Crystal omg. From here on out, 99% of the time when anybody says the word "inconceivable", you'll think of this film. Great reaction as always. And unfortunately his size caused severe health issues, which by the time the movie was filmed meant they had to be very careful not to injure him. Those close camera angles during Westley's fight with Fezzik are because Cary Elwes was actually standing on a platform with his arms loosely draped around Andre's neck, rather than being held up by him.

Wonderful participation by cast, crew, director, and the music dude. This is Not necessarily a kissing book. I will watch it whenever it presents itself. Thanks for finally getting here. Luv ya

One of the greatest casting jobs in all of film history. How else do you get Andre Roussimoff, aka Andre The Giant a world famous Professional Wrestler, as Fezik, Billy Crystal, a world famous comedian, as Miracle Max, Robin Wright, a world famous beauty, as Buttercup, Mandy Patinkin, a world famous singer and actor, as Inigo Monotya, Cary Elwes, a world famous for being famous actor, as The Dread Pirate Roberts, etc., Chris Sarandon, world famous for being the brother of world famous actress Susan Sarandon, as Prince Humperdink, and Directed by Rob Reiner, world famous as "Meathead" on "All In The Family", a 70's TV Show. It is simply inconceivable how good this cast and movie are.

Oh gosh I'm so glad I got to see you react to this. This was a big part of my youth, everyone I knew had seen it multiple times and we used to quote it to each other constantly. The soundtrack still sends a wave of warmth through me after only a few notes! So happy that you enjoyed it as well. I really wish that, following this, they'd made a Dread Pirate Roberts show with Inigo and Fezzik. Even if it might have been crap (as many followup things were back then), it still would have been more of one of the best BFF pair ups ever. Even now (RIP Andre), it would be fun to have Mandy Patinkin star as a DPR that's getting ready to retire and needs to find a replacement.

This movie came out when I was in college. I had never heard of it before, but one of my roommates was a huge fan of the book, so all four of us took several buses cross-town to get to the one theater in Milwaukee that had a preview showing on Thursday night. Other than a couple on an apparent date, we were the only ones in the place. It was one of my favorite films from that first viewing on! Unfortunately, no one in my family appreciates it like I do, in fact, they don’t understand why I find it so appealing. ::eye rolls forever::

Love this movie. And it has one of my all time favorite actors: Mandy Patinkin. He is also great in the rather dark comedy series "Dead Like Me," one of my favorite series, partly because of him. I don't know why, but this movie always reminds me of Labyrinth (with David Bowie). If you haven't seen that, it also has a similar charm. Not a sweet romance...but it ahs David Bowie! And a set in one scene based on M.C.Escher.

Fun fact. Not necessarily a fact about this movie but, Carrie elwis was actually offered the role in Robin hood Prince of thieves but he turned it down to do this movie. So it's no wonder when he played Robin hood in Robin hood: Men In Tights, he totally roasted Kevin Costner. Idk if u Have reacted to Either movie yet. But they're both quite enjoyable.

Despite all the physical stunts involved in the movie, there was only one injury during filming...when Mandy Patinkin laughed so hard during the Miracle Max scene that he bruised a rib. Rob Reiner was also unable to personally shoot the scene, as he was completely unable to stop himself from laughing and kept ruining the takes.

Correct, but wrong about that being the only injury. Elwes was actually hit with the sword by Guest, and got a concussion.

@@doctor-aestheticn't Cary end up in the hospital twice for this movie? Once when he woke up from his concussion and the second was a good or hand injury wasn't it? Edit: the sword bit, this was because he told the other actor to actually hit him so it looked real, but obviously he got hit a little too hard and in the right place. And the shot in the movie is him actually being knocked out

Fun story and the scenery/imagery was great too. Funny jokes also. The actor who played the child in this is still acting today and also did some voice acting in childrens cartoons. I certainly think the child actor in this has definitely gained a new look as an adult. I wouldnt think they were the same person without looking him up. He acted very well in this movie and just how many impatiant young kids act or kids who end up sick in bed and cannot release their energy act. The other actors and actresses did very well too. RIP Andre the Giant. He was a giant after the audiences heart.

Vezini swapped so that, when they started to drink, he could watch The Man In Black and see if he seemed fine with drinking from "his" glass. He assumed the poison was in only one glass, so that if Wesley drank with no trepidation or hesitation, he figured Wesley "knew" that "his" glass was safe - and therefore Vezini who had swapped glasses could assume the glass he was drinking from was safe. So the swap had a purpose - but Wesley, who wasn't fooled at all, didn't hesitate, so Vezini drank...and died.

I really liked this movie the first time I saw it as a new release on tape. However, it was a very common rented movie for a year in my experience. I was at a house and the people go "hey we got "the princess bride" tonight". I had seen it so many times (often was the movie people came back with from blockbuster) that this totally burned me out on it. Still great movie though. I'm kind of over being burned out on it, but still haven't seen it in so long.

Coincidentally, in the book Florin and Guilder are described as lying "between Sweden and Germany". Interestingly, that basically describes southeastern Denmark, and there actually was a small province by the name of Florin in Northern Germany near the Danish border back in the 18th century. The funny thing is that William Goldman (the writer) _did not know this._

Also, if you want to experience the books and movies that this story is a loving parody of, look up books by Rafael Sabatini, and the movies based on them (The Sea Hawk, Captain Blood and so on).
