Fans were enjoying and having so much fun watching this live every night at the recent World Tour 2023, we always love the shanenigans when performing live between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal) and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘 Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀 Next suggestion: - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014. Nice job. The producer of Babymetal Koba- metal built this project around the talent of Su- metal. She was About 15 here but had already been singing on stage since she was 7yrs old.

Great reaction. This video was recorded in 2013 - Su-metal (lead singer) was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal were 13, nearly 14 (the video was released around about their 14th birthdays). They formed in 2010 when Su was 12, Yui and Moa were 11. The very first song was 'Doki Doki Morning' recorded October 2010 - the video for that was recorded about August 2011. There are many good reasons why 'Megitsune' (MEH - GEE - TSOO - NEH) so often tops fan polls for favourite song. It is arguably the song that showcases what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) out of her midcrophone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.

Welcome to Babymetal's Foxhole. The Fox God is Babymetal's patron deity and so you'll see lots of foxes and this song is drawing parallels with the traits of foxes in Japanese myths and the traditional way Japanese women (and maybe all women) have been expected to behave in patriarchal societies. Megitsune is an early Babymetal song released in 2013 so Su will be 15 in the video and Moa and Yui are almost 14. They had also been members of a J-pop group called Sakura Gakuin for the previous 3 years and were all singing, dancing and acting even before that, so they are basically "professionals" with years of experience. Megitsune, or vixen, is one of BM's female empowerment songs. The temple and the Japanese instruments sets a very traditional tone, but right from the start old Japanese values are challenged as Yui and Moa pull on Su's obi (sash) to release her from her kimono so she can do the high leg lift dance. That dance contrasts with the traditional restrained dance in the break down. That break down is a very old song called "Sakura, Sakura" and is about the cherry blossom, but BM even subvert that and Su sing's "kitsune, kitsune" (fox, fox). This also might be an expression of BM moving away from their parent idol group which was Sakura Gakuin or Cherry Blossom Academy. In Japan the fox is seen as a clever shape shifter and the lyrics liken women to female foxes in the way they have to change themselves to please others or to hide their true feelings. In the dance BM mime wearing a mask and also putting on make up as another way to hide themselves. But the strength of women is emphasized and the expression of this peaks when Su shouts: "Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" and draws a knife from her microphone. The phrase is translated as "Maidens shouldn’t be underestimated" (credit Du-metal), although that is a polite interpretation. It's also used in a famous Japanese gangster film called Onimasa and is translated there as " don't you sh*t with me". Some of BM's lyrics can be quite shocking to Japanese audiences and native speakers say that gets lost on non-Japanese speakers who have to experience Babymetal's lyrics through the distorting lens of translation.

BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this song back to Yuyoyuppe, the arranger, over 20 times until he was happy with the final result. Then it was almost lost when the project windows wouldn't reopen. So backup your data! Yui and Moa considered this the most challenging song to dance to from the first album. It made 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' seem "soft". Yui liked the "windmill" headbanging that the guy in the 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' video did so much, that she asked their choreographer Mikiko to make it part of their choreography in the future. She was very happy when that came true for 'Megitsune'. That's Chidori Yakumo performing the fan dance during the breakdown. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with her Movement Design group. Even though they're in white robes, they are not members of BABYMETAL's Kami Band.

In this video the lead singer was still 15, the other two 14, even if they seem younger. Su (the singer) is referred as the legend 1997 (she was born in december of that year), the other were born in the first half of 1999. They started to sing together in 2010, but Su began singing some years before.

There are many layers to this MV. I like it because it gives more insight into their message. I also learn so much from the comments from the fan base: for instance, one pointed out how at the beginning YUI and MOA pull on SU’s Japanese costume and the next scene she is transformed into SU-METAL. 🦊 🖖❤

"Megitsune" still tops fan favorite song polls even today. They were 15 and 13 (nearly 14) in this video. Su sometimes acted as the big sister to them (sometimes... just not, haha...). Moa recently mentioned that she considers Su as her sister. 🤘🦊

Kids thats has more talent than some professional adult bands out there lol . They were young here because they debut so early but they now are in their mid 20s going to their early 30s in a few years. I guess debuting so early, they can last really long and still be in their 20s even a decade later. The only cons i can think of is they lose their childhood life by debuting so early. You only get that once in your life.

They werr part of a Jpop group. In Japan they start very young and train for years. Japanese pilots in WWII were trained to be pilot at 14 yrs old. Because they believe older than that was too old to start. But the average age of a Jpop idol is 15, and thet retire from singing at 20. In Korea it is the opposite. They start usually around 18 to 20 yrs old and train for years then have at most a 7 year carrer then dusband. They are typically sewuestered and are sick of the companies control. Jpop idols usually will leave with their whole lives ahead, while Kpop idols spend their best years performing then being dumped when they are too old to have a normal life.

Check out Aldious Dominator live Radiant A O East They are all Female and play their own instruments unlike BabyMetal who re just singers. If you like Kpop, thi Metal song is a bit poppy and upbeat. But with an aggressive groove.
