So if what Otani said was not true he could risk himself from being sued by Ippei . Also Otani’s lawyer would not let Otani make a statement like that if they are not sure .

Shohei has no history of gambling, if he did he would not be in a hole racking up a $4 million dollar debt that he cannot pay, he makes over $100million dollars in endorsements. C'mon! Ohtani is not going to use his OWN account, with his OWN name on it, to pay off an illegal bookie. He knows everyone watches him, wants to know what he does, etc. His interpreter was more than just his interperter. He had an seperate account, with Ohtani's name and permission to use, for conducting personal purchase, payment of bills, etc. Money went into this account every month, for the course of several years, and Ippei made the debt transactions 9 times, without Ohtani's knowledge. Ohtani's biggest crime was trusting this guy and now he is paying for it with this "guilty until proven innocent" bannana.

This the same guy that gave away all his earnings from his first home run derby to the training staff of the angels. Left millions of dollars on the table to come to America to play a sport he dedicated every second of his life to. Probably never even seen what a bet or a spread looks like. You aren't a multimillionaire. That kind of money moving around for them is fairly normal. The translator probably knew the limit. Also, if Shohei told the bank to contact the translator with issues regarding the account then he gets to approve his own embezzling. I'm not saying Shohei is innocent, but professional athletes outsource a lot of this stuff because they don't want to deal with it. It's part of the reason so many end up broke- they let other people piss away all their money while they are playing and when they retire have way less than they thought and awful spending habits

The comment of why there is an expectation that those from other countries should speak English is paramount. This position is contrary to Stephen A. Smith's comment that the face of baseball should not have an interpreter. Of course, Stephen A. Smith walked that back. I am new to the baseball youtube videos. Your broadcasts are superb.

I've been married to a Japanese women for over 32 years. My wife still does not have a good grasp of our language. She's never been one to want to learn it so we both speak English and Japanese to each other, her more English. So, its not uncommon that Shohei does not understand much English or speak it. The thing many don't seem to understand about the Japanese is that they are very honorable and honest people. They don't go around lying. That is a Western thing to lie, and exactly why many are not taking his word at face value. You can bet that Shohei is tell you 100 percent the truth.

@@josea4091 If you look at the timeline on ESPN by Tina Thompson she is very clear that there is a possibility Mizuhara “translated” the original debt payment claim to the crisis management team that she interviewed. When I was very young, my grandmother spoke French to my brother and me always. I could understand it perfectly well, but I could never speak it correctly. It was weird. My father was the same way. He understood it fine but never spoke it. I can still pick some stuff out, not that I hear French very often, but very little anymore. But I'm guessing, since he's been doing this for a few years that he at the very least understands some English. It seems natural to me, anyway, that if you're around a different language long enough, you don't necessarily become fluent but you learn a little bit. And American English is a very difficult language to learn if you don't start young, like, little kid young. So maybe, but I'm guessing he knows a little.
