OIL CATCH CAN OIL-AIR SEPARATOR SET-UP AND INSTALLATION is a walk through video on the installation of an Oil Catch Can Oil-Air Separator in you vehicle.
Most modern vehicles that have gasoline direct injection (GDI) system will benefit from an oil catch can as this simple device can help keep the engine clean and improve performance provided they are emptied and cleaned regularly.
Even vehicles with port injection systems can benefit from a simple device like this by minimizing the entry of unwanted oil vapors into the cylinders during combustion.
NOTE: Oil Catch Cans / Oil-Air separator must be checked and cleaned regularly to ensue that there is no damage or sludge build-up in the hoses and connectors and that the container is not overfilled or overflowing with vented oil.
As always, please exercise caution and common sense when working on your car. Seek the help of a professional whenever necessary. 3/8" internal diameter. It should be about the same size of the internal diameter of your PCV valve hose. The hose should not collapse under vacuum pressure and should fit the neck of the PCV valve snugly. Make sure there's no vacuum leaks.

Thanks for sharing the DIY. You sprayed carburetor cleaner inside the PCV hose. Pwede din po ba throttle body cleaner to clean inside the PCV hose?

Question if this thing will help the engine performance why the engineer's built this engine and didn't include this oil catch can? We can avoid problem with our car if we just follow the PMS right??? I appreciate your knowledge and sharing it to others 👍
@Viosified
@Viosified 2 жыл бұрын
Could you please clarify your question, sir?
@Viosified
@Viosified 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for clarifying your question sir. Yes, following your PMS schedules will keep your car in good shape and make it last a long time. I highly recommend it. To answer your question on why a catch can was not included in the design of the engine (this is just my humble opinion): 1st, the engine will run without it. 2nd, it saves the manufacturer money by not including this in the engine. In the same way they can save money on using plastic parts in the engine even though they know that plastic can get brittle (and crack) from prolonged exposure to heat. To give you 2 examples of plastic parts on 2nzfe engines: thermostat housing and coolant filler inlet port sub-assembly. These plastic parts get brittle and break overtime because of heat and yet the engineers still used them even though they could have used metal instead of plastic (But hey, metal parts cost more than plastic, right?). So why? Simple. Vehicle manufacturers expect car owners to bring their cars to them for maintenence and repairs, and they earn a lot of money from it by selling spare parts and services. Service advisors also earn commissions by upselling parts and/or services that our cars don't really need. Remember, the manufacturer's business doesn't stop after selling you their car. They continue to earn money from it through regular scheduled PMS, repairs, or parts replacement sales. The engineers know that the engine will run without a Catch Can/Oil-air Separator because it is not a critical part of the engine. Besides, the negative effects won't show up until after running a few thousands of kilometers, anyway. So why bother? Engineers are smart, and they know that the vented crankcase oil vapors will eventually cause carbon build up in the intake port and valves, especially in GDI engines. But they also realize that huge profit can be made from car owners everytime parts breakdown and have to be replaced or cleaned. Ever heard of PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE? So what do most car owners do when engine problems start showing up? They bring their vehicles to the dealership for repairs or parts replacement and they end up paying a hefty amount just to get their car fixed. At any rate, it's good business for car makers and sellers.

Sir may tanong po ako about doon sa isang hose na naka connect from the intake to crankcase, pwede po ba yon lagyan ng breather air filter? Nakikita ko po kase sa ibang setup ganon ginagawa nila. Thank you po
@Viosified
@Viosified 5 ай бұрын

Hi sir. A similar question was asked and answered on a separate video under the same title which I deleted by mistake 😭 So I had to re-upload this video. Anyway, I agree. There are mixed stories about catch cans. As with any part, an Oil Catch Can (or Oil-air Separator ) can fail especially if it is not inspected and cleaned regularly or when it is improperly installed. The canister or hoses can degrade and cause vacuum leaks. Hoses can get clogged with sludge or a foreign object. Anything that obstructs the flow of vented gases from the crankcase through the catch can would cause the same issues as a clogged PCV valve would. Problems such as: sludge formation, excessive crankcase pressure, oil leaks, dipstick blow-by, increased oil consumption, premature engine wear, etc., can occur. These are the same symptoms of a clogged PCV valve. This is why Oil Catch Cans should be inspected and cleaned regularly to ensure that the hoses, connectors and canister are not damaged and obstructed with sludge, or that it is not overfilling with vented oil. It's a good practice to clean the PCV valve as well everytime you clean the Oil Catch Can and hoses to prevent potential problems. If you maintain your Catch Can properly, it can help reduce the amount of fuel-oil vapors entering the intake manifold which contributes to gunk accumulation in the intake port. In addition, you can watch my video on PCV Valve cleaning which lists symptoms of a clogged PCV system. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g6mJl6t5t5fIqJs.html The same principles apply to Catch Cans. Hope this helps. Thanks for subscribing :)

Zip ties are not long term securing fixtures. Also why not teflon the dip stick thread ?
@Viosified

Yup. That's exactly the reason why I chose to use zip ties for my set up. Zip ties make it easier for me to simply cut them off when I need to clean the catch can every 2 - 3 months and replace them with new ones. But that's just me. Choose what works best for you. "Why not teflon the dip stick thread?" - Because they get shredded everytime I pull out the dip stick and I don't want pieces of teflon getting sucked into the engine. 🙂

Hi sir. Depending on which size you'd like to use, the Catch Can kit comes with 3/8 to 9/16 hose adapters/connectors. But to be sure, you can bring the smallest hose adapter (which has the same size as the PCV valve nozzle) with you when you buy a hose so you can test if the connector fits the hose. @Viosified
@Viosified 2 жыл бұрын
1) Yes there is a small chance that could happen if you use an old, rusty or poorly made steel wool. So you have to make sure that you only use a good quality, non-rusty, unused, unfrayed steel wool for this project. 2) disadvantage of the open system is that it vents harmful fumes directly to the environment which contributes to pollution, and it is not as efficient in venting the hydrocarbon fumes from the crankcase because it is passive, meaning it has no "vacuum assist" generated by the engine. In the closed system, hydrocarbon fumes/gases flow quicker because they are sucked by the engine into the cylinders for recycling and filtered by the catalytic converter before exiting the exhaust system.

Why not just vent the occ outlet to atmosphere?
@Viosified
@Viosified 2 жыл бұрын
Because venting crankcase gasses directly to the atmosphere contributes to air pollution. Whereas, recirculating them through the engine allows them to pass through the catalytic converter in the exhaust manifold which acts as filter or buffer to help minimize toxicity.
