Hey 905speedgta, I've been working on cars since I was 11yrs old I am now 49yrs old and I have to say, you did a great job of explaining how to change the back bank of plugs on your 98 dodge van! It's nice to see someone from a younger generation that "gets it" I take my hat off to you! As an extra tip for you and your viewers, when reinstalling the spark plug wires put a bit of dielectric grease in the boot of the wires to help seal them from moisture and to also make them easier to come off next time! Once again great job! Have a great day!

Thank you for making this video. I am surprised at the lack of tune up videos for this model van. I guess everyone paid someone else to do it.

The metal sleeves on the plug wires are heat shields, because of there proximity to the exhaust manifold. I also love the hat.

on my 2007 Town and Country Touring with the 3.8 i was able to do the rear plugs without removing the wiper tray, had good access to the rear plugs by leaning on drivers side fender and reaching around the opening thats there.

This is a very good video. I was just hoping for a much easier way, of replacing the spark plugs. I offer to tune-up my niece's van. Maybe I should've watched the video first, and then pretend I don't know anything about anything. But, this is still a great video!
@905speedgta9 жыл бұрын
Sirwilliam1229 its not all that hard. the best way is the way i did it with hugging the engine. others sware by going under the car and geting them from the bottom. to each their own, or however it goes. the job is pretty straight forward. the back plugs is just an unavoidible pain in the ass.. By the way, when you do that tune up,remember these cars have their fuel filter inside the tank. its actually a sock... the 98's didnt have a external filter, but then again alot of hands have been in my caravan before I got it. but im almost certain it doesnt. the 2003 carvan I had did have one. and when you buy it the box is going to be as tall as 4 feet lol

The metal pieces at 19:18 are heat shields to protect the wires from the heat coming from the manifold.

For what it's worth, those metal tubes on the ends of the spark plug wires are heat shields, since the wires sit between the exhaust ports. It's important that if you replace the wires that the new wires either have the shields, or that you transfer them to the new wires before installation. -Matt, Self Employed Auto Technician

You can go to your auto parts store and ask them for the serpentine belt removal tool.. if you dont want to do that i believe its a 15mm wrench you can put on it

Great detailed step guide! Since I'm changing out my fuel rail with the plenum off, I'd imagine that nows the time to do the intake, valve covers and wires/spark plugs. There was way more room on the 2nd generation vans 1991 - 1995! as well as the 1st ( 1984 - 1990 )

forestmusic51 Thanks alot, I always like to help people out and I made this channel just for this reason. the only thing that gets me is i have soooo much content that I havent put on youtube. content dating back to 2010!. Video Editing is very time consuming, and also shooting video in my garage while working on either my car or a customers car nearly doubles the time of the repair. I like to explain and be as thorough as i can, and when your talking and explaing why your doing this and why your doing that this way, it doubles the time. and i dont like to make quick how to videos, because whenever i do that I always get subcribers and youtubers Emailing me or posting comments asking " yeah but how did you get this to go there etc". thats why I break up my long videos into chapters. they say " short videos are the way to go for veiwers and people to fully watch your video, but you cant do that with some jobs. and more and more people here on youtube are beginning to understand that when Creators upload these 2 min videos on how to do a brake job and make it sound like this is how it goes for all cars. then the youtuber take their wheel off and are like ???????????.... lol.. I like to take the " ????" out of repairs, thats why I make my videos as rich in detail as I can, and not a 5 min videos with 2 mins of half assed info and 3 mins of show boating pointless bullshit. you know? lol.. thanks for the reply. any other questions feel free to contact me here

They get worst each generation i have noticed too. 5th get is pretty time. But with the 4.0 v6 they put in the 08-2010 5th gen lol. Not certain about the clearance from the 3.6 liter v6?

asts3196 My know how and knowledge ends with the 2001-2007 Caravans and the 3.8L 3.3L 3.0L and 2.4L's . and starts with the first generation 1984-1988. Thats cause Ive owned every Generation caravan up to 2003 which was the (2001-2007) generation. I dont know much about the 4.0L and 3.6L. Ill have one, one day im sure. Till then, im stuck in the early'r 2000's lol

Have you had any problems with this van running rough at idle while in gear? i have a 98 T&C and after it is warmed up it will feel like it is missing while in gear and sitting still. Never wants to quit and runs good after you are driving.

My oil cap is spinning when I turn it left and right, free wheeling? Do I wait for the engine to cool off or is it defective? Pry it off or cut it off? Can I replenish the oil from the breather hose?
@1foxtrot7010 жыл бұрын
At about 37:40 you observe that better engineering could have been done for future maintenance, the problem is when the auto manufacturers started using "cab forward" designing in all vehicles. I am 6'3" for the most part I feel crammed in a vehicle no matter which seat I sit in.
@aohm5811 жыл бұрын
I will definitely will do that, when it hits 420k on it!!!!:-) it hasnt change a day since I bought it.... it has 3.8 liter in it.... and I know your 3.3 will make to definitely 490k... these van r very reliable if you do major maintance on them....

Using 10w30? Using 5w30 would be advisable for cold weather flow, faster lubrication on startup, and a slight edge on fuel economy.

I've done it more that once without a lift and it takes me a half hour for all of them including wires
@905speedgta11 жыл бұрын
right, thats because its a 2007 and not a 1998. i had the same luck on my 2003 dodge caravan with the 3.8L. there intake plenums are designed differently and easy to access the plugs and wires from behind.

I would just do them from underneath as long as the intake doesn't have to come out

@rajin33511 жыл бұрын
really? Every 80-100k miles? Where does it say that in the owners manual? If your head gaskets are good, why tear the engine apart to replace the Head gaskets, your only asking for trouble if you tear your engine apart for no reason. The most you may gain for doing head gaskets every 80-100k miles, is a slight higher compression. I've seen these engines go 300-400k miles easily without major maintenance. The 3.3/3.8 are bullet proof engines.I myself have a 04 caravan with 112,000k miles on it.
