One thing to realize is that carbon deposits are very hard . It has been a real problem in the competitive shooting community. Abrasive removal with dedicated carbon cleaners REGULARLY is the only method known to help keep accuracy up, and wear and dangerous pressure down. FreeAll has been getting good comments lately. The chemical makeup of carbon ,whether petroleum or nitrocellulose is laid down in layers in high temperature environments. Never have had any luck removing carbon by soaking alone with any chemical I have. Will try Freeall and see. Thanks. Great series of vids. Smashed sub , and like buttons.

RepairVehicle:: I have a 2020 Tundra TRD PRO I changed my Front & Rear Diff & most of my transmission fluid to Amsoil probably 8 months ago & got no distinguishable MPG improvements. However, I've finished with my Free oil changes from the dealership and changed my Oil to Amsoil Sig. Series 0W20 3 days ago at 20,650 Miles on truck. I just got back from a 50 mile round trip and my MPG was 18.9 miles per gallon which is really 19+ because I have 35's on my Tundra. I can hardly believe it but I witnessed it and took a pic of my dash for the trip back!!!! I am now definitely a believer in Amsoil SS products. The oil change is fresh so I still want to see how it does after about 1000 more miles to make sure this isn't a fluke. I am getting ready to take a 600+ mile 1 way trip tomorrow. If this MPG continues this is going to be amazing because my truck is only rated for 17MPG on the highway and that was with the smaller lighter stock Tires. Thanks for continuing to make your videos and your fervent belief in Amsoil.

While I appreciate the OP's line of thinking, he also is not doing anything much similar to a piston soak. I would say anyone not mechanically inclined should indeed avoid this. Anyone else who has the aptitude to change a spark plug, AND follow simple instructions, its worth a shot as you're unlikely to hydro-lock your vehicle. Cover the open plug holes with some cloth and crank the start several times. Replace cloth/paper and keep doing that until fluid no longer shows on the cloth/paper. Re-install plugs, do an oil change, and go. Worst thing is either your rings are no the problem and you wasted some hours and $40-50, or like a lot of folks you see a good decrease in oil burning and saved either a $2K repair or shopping for a new vehicle.

I've seen a few YT channels who swear by that BG stuff. But a guy with a Corolla tried that and like 5-6 other things to no avail. Burning 1qt a week or such. The one thing he did try that seriously helped was... B12. Think he saw it go up to 900m per 1qt, but he went on with other stuff to check and never just went back and did another flush with the B12.... I mean if it took years to build up to a problem, its kind of dumb to think you're going to fix it in 1 shot. I mean outside of an engine pull and tear down.

I have an idea. If the crank position stays locked and intake and exhaust is sealed, you could pump diesel through the oil filter mount for a few days to super clean the engine. It could remove all carbon around above the pistons and valves. The pump should have pressure gauges and a couple filters on it to prevent particles from going back into the engine. When you think it's ready, pump a few gallons of cheap oil through the engine to get the diesel out, and after a hour of idling do a oil change.

@@markm0000 Whatever you want to put in the cylinder, if you crank it generously with the spark plugs out, it will evacuate the cylinder, and you won't have to worry about hydro-lock. Saw it done on an old Cadillac that went in a lake accidentally, in a copy of Classic Auto Restorer back in the day. Now with today's central and deep spark plug holes, you might have to rig up a shop vac with a smaller hose to make sure everything gets out of that hole and channel.

Thanks for making this video, I've been wondering about this exact thing. Still have to wonder if there isn't a magic solution for an oil burning engine like the 2AZ-FE that can free up those oil control rings, even if it means having to pull out any remaining fluid in the combustion chamber. Something that could rejuvenate these engines without having do to a complete rebuild.

Someone mentioned on KZfaq comments to unplug the PCV valve hose and leave one end open while the other end plugged. The theory is more on blow-by, and opening the hose will allow the sludge to be pushed out by the force of blow-by. On the contrary, a clogged PCV will do the opposite and causes the oil rings to clog up. Cleaning the PCV (or replacement) is AS CRITICAL AS CHANGING OIL! For already-clogged up engines (rings I mean), it’s worth to try! I’m on the same boat as many 2AZ owners.

Not to be rude, but you need to reasses some of the people you are taking advice from. B12 has worked for a lot of folks, even if this channel's creator does not believe in it. Most of the junk you here on the internet as 'old mechanic's' wisdom was relevent in the 50s and maybe through the 60's. Anything involving transmission fluid and most of the products on the shelves in the local parts stores are bunk. Bonistheoilguy is a great site which debunks a lot of this and has steller oil and associated fluids information and hard data.

No, don't do this. 99% of people outside of actual mechanics and actually knowledgeable DIY'ers are just as likely to end up bending valves, rods, etc, by hydro-locking. Assuming an oil change has NOT been done after re-installing plugs, oil pump, filter, sprayers, etc are all ready to go as soon as the crank starts to move. By then time the starter has turned the engine over 2-3 times and it catches, oil will already be being sprayed onto the cylinder walls. If one was doing this on a $200K car, then yes one could add this to the billable hours as a precaution. There is still going to be oil on most of the cylinder walls to make this a non-issue.
@boots7859
@boots7859 Ай бұрын
Good video, and yes there are gotchas like hydro-lock that can take place. However not sure you can say piston soaking with B12 does not work from this demo. Most of the YT vids on this usually are done with adding an ounce or two to each cylinder and then either re-installing the plugs or covering them. This reduces the B12 abilities to aerosolize/evaporate, especially if you can reinstall the plugs. Once you've added the B12 and plugs, you bump the crankshaft a bit, and then top-off/bump every 2/4/6 hours until you either run out of B12 or have had enough/need the vehicle. The smart folks do an immediate oil change, the stupids start the car, rev it up happy to see it smoke, and then drive it around for a while. Needless to say, high revs or load on an engine with thinned out oil is quite possibly making a simple carboned up ring problem much more serious as a bearing/journal issue. Thing is, a lot of people have done this since before YT was thing, and its kind of hard to assume all of them were talking BS. A lot of the YT guys, especially the Audi guys seem to mostly have sane, no-BS channels, and between them and numerous comments from some of their viewers, its seems to often work. As an alternative to dropping $1500-2000 to have a mechanic pull the engine and tear it apart to get to the rings and then reassemble it all, a $20 Supertech full synthetic, $5 filter and $10-12 2x cans of B12 is certainly not a stupid idea all things considered. Just for the non-mechanics, make sure you cover the plug holes before re-installing plugs with cloth or rags and keep cranking the start until liquid stops shooting out. If you're not sure the cylinders are all empty of fluid just let it sit for some hours and check with a piece of dry paper towel on a pencil.

I will stick with Amsoil Signature Series. This is too risky for me. Thanks for sharing

If your hoping to clean your piston rings, remember that putting stuff inside the cylinders could desolve carbon on top of the piston and that desolved carbon could possibly run down into the piston rings and contaminate them more.

that is my concern too - I got a manual vacuum pump and I am going to try to pump out most of the gunk but I know I am taking a huge risk so I am going to wait until we get a spare car next month before trying it

@@kevinrush97 for now I sprayed carb cleaner in the pistons, seems to be much better actually. As soon as I get our spare car running im going to go extreme and fill the cylinders with different cleaners and take a chance but the carb cleaner with aggressive driving straight after definitely made a difference. I only topped up after 2 weeks instead of the weekly

I’ve been considering this for a while. I thought of doing one cylinder at a time. Disconnect battery so engine won’t be turned over accidentally with key. Bring the cylinder up to close TDC put Berryman’s bring piston up to just a slight pressure, and I mean very slight, let sit overnight so pressure helps force fluid around rings and through drain holes. Only do one cylinder per day. What do you think?

Not sure you understand whats going on as well as you think you are with your 'warning'. If you're rings are gummed up and plugged, any excess cabon from the piston tops will take a ride down and up and then most likely be expelled out the exhaust valves.

hack mechanic pour the berrymans down the plug holes with both valves closed. use a compressor to add pressure to the cylinder. that liquid is going down .....put wrench on crank bolt and give a few rotations change oil and see what you got

What do you mean by compressor? Do you spray air into the spark plug holes?
@boots7859
@boots7859 Ай бұрын
Or, do all of that and simply put the plugs in and push the crank 1/8 turn. Light pressurization but not near enough to bend any valves and done at the same time vs 4/6/8 times individually with a compressor/leak down tester.
