I love this painting style. So much freer and bolder than mainstream painting techniques. Even if someone doesn't like this style, doing a study or two in this technique will absolutely get someone over their timidity and fear of oil painting. Just let loose, and play.

I am agreeing with you on the beautiful painting and the artists skill, however, if you commissioned an artist to paint your portrait for your family, would you not require a good likeness? Of course you would.

Te admiro muchísimo, te he seguido sempre porque eres genial, pero en este cuadro siento decirte que no le encuentro parecido, solo en la boca y poco mas. Pensé que en el final lo hibas a corregir. En fin, de todas maneras todos no pueden salir igual. Pero No veas como te sigo me encantan tus colores en todos los cuadros que haces, ya he echo uno tuyo ahora voy por el del puente, que caí mala y llevo sin pintar muuuucho tiempo, el próximo será ese. There are a lot of great lessons in this tutorial. No translation needed. If finger painting bothers you, these modern techniques from the past 150 years aren't for you. Because I think all the direct portrait artist use there fingers at the middle tone stage. Zorn used his fingers. Sergeant did too. And so do most of the more recent portrait artists. That doesn't mean you HAVE TO, but don't degenerate using the fingers to blend in the middle composition, and "I want to see brush strokes" isn't a reason, those come in at the end to create a loose effect. If you want to know what brush and paint color Igor is using, you are asking the wrong questions. This is all about painting with a towel, a finger or a brush and show light with a simple palate. If you don't know what that means, and you don't speak Russian, this isn't the video for you. This is a fast study in oil for open-minded, direct artists. No charcoal sketch, no hyper-realists, no rules-based folks. Just a lesson in painting from life, wet into wet, an immediate take of the planes on a human face..

painting is beautiful. but minimal likeliness to model -the model has wide face and rounded cheeks, while the painting has a narrow face and slim high cheekbones.Also the model has mouth angles going very prominently low , beyond the line of the lips. these two traits are the hallmark of the models face, yet neither one is found on the painted face.whats the model for , then?

if your reply (N.G.) is a reply to my observation, then pathetic is on you. I sad the man paints beautifully, but then what is the point of teaching to paint portrait, if you dont get the portrait (of the model). I didint say he doesnt know how to paint, but I d rather say he hurries a bit while pai nting, and there he loses the proportions of the face, in which case it can be any other face similar to the model, but not THE face of THE model . I think he just needs to slow down a bit, and then he gets everything he should!! why are you so rude NG?

N G Yes, it is a self portrait, painted live and congratulations on your being the first person to give it a negative comment and by the way, do read what I say about Mr. Sakharof's i.e "Beautifully painted" was my quote and I also stated the eyes did not match the subject,, which they do not. Yes brushwork is important. But really the focus needs to be on the end painting. How you get there doesn't matter. The free, painterly brushwork can be put in at the end, as if to indicate it came out very easily. But it doesn't really every come out easily. That's the illusion the wet-on-wet approach strives for. Most of the great wet-on-wet artists I know use sticks, fingers, paper to spread the paint around early on.
