In this video I will trying the Mungyo Oil pastels along with the Paul Rubens for the first time! I have used the Caran D'Ache and Sennelier oil pastels so this will make for a great comparison to find the difference Pro's and Con's.

Hallo dear, thank for sharing interesting video.❤ I love oil pastels and especially now mungyo since I discovered these. But I wanted to say laud my thoughts on this whole light fastness madness. Good lighfastnes means that a painting can last vivid at least 100 years without change. But that doesnt mean after 100 years it will look like sepia. The same with school grade pastels. Yes, after maybe 50 years it will look paler but still good. I have such paintings/drawings at home which are 50 yrs old. Nothing changed actually when you look at them and these were painted with the cheapest oil pastels. You can sell artwork even it is painted with mungyo artist gallery. Thats why I call it a madness because it is a very good comparable brand. Maybe in Korea there is no duty to write down informations about lastfastness, we dont known. I guess also you have never seen or heard about complaining that a painting lost colors 😊. Yes, because it is very unusual. Have a nice day!

@paint-and-pixel Hello thank you for reaching out! 😃 I understand where you are coming from and it is true for something’s but I have had colors change on me and I was not quite happy with that. So I may not heard others that complain to me but only myself complaining from seeing it happen, for a business that is what I like to see only it happening to my paintings than the other way around. I did have a blue that turned sepia just from the painting I did two weeks ago it was a crazy thing but I wasn’t selling that one because of those certain inks and paints I used. All in all it’s a personal thing for everyone one and really it all comes down to what makes you happy and/or what makes your customers happy. I really think they made better quality art supplies back in the day than they do now. I really wish I could go back in time. Happy Creating 😃👩🏼‍🎨

This is the best side by side comparison I’ve seen for these pastels. According to the original Korean, Mungyo is pronounced like “moon” and then the ‘g’ sound like in “glow” and “yo” like “yo-yo.”

Tfs. I have some of these 4 brands but haven't used it with gamsol. Interesting results. Curious if PR white is as opaque as Sennelier white...
@dcfineart1562
@dcfineart1562 Жыл бұрын
Great question, I have not tried the pr white so I’m not for sure. Using Gamsol helps me create small details and blending in a painterly way but it also is a wonderful test to show just how pigmented the colors truly are. The Sennelier white is opaque and I’ve worked with them a lot (one of my favorites.) They are more pigmented than the Paul Rubens (or at least for the way I use them). Closets comparison I’ve tried is the Mungyo oil pastels they are very nicely pigmented should be a close comparison to Sennelier. Sorry I could not check the pr white to test it out. Left them at home while on my travels and was afraid they would melt in the summer heat. 👩‍🎨

What black paper was that? Some of the Sennelier sticks are opaque some are transparent. The O and T on the chart shows if that color is meant to be opaque or transparent. Transparent Sennelier colors, almost all yellows for example, look disappointing, if you are not aware of this Sennelier oil pastel behavior. All Mungyo sticks/colors are uniformly opaque.

The black paper was legions black watercolor paper. I have enjoyed both the mungyo and Sennelier oil pastels. I typically use a pastel board for my art work. This was a fun experiment and first time using the mungyo. :)

Yes if oil based mineral spirits works but if your pastels are water based then use water. Caran D’Ache has both the water soluble ones and oil based. Just gives you more ways to use your oil pastels and get details if needed. 👩‍🎨🎨

Not all of the Paul Ruben’s can handle solvent. On some colors it totally eats up the color or lightens it significantly.

@@lizadivine3785 that is exactly right and what happened in this video Paul Rubens did not do well at all with the oms. Experimenting and finding out what works or what doesn’t before you start your painting is a must.
