Thank you for your video demo because I just got my first set ever and it is the Sennelier Oil Pastel Landscape!! First time ever also using pastels. You are easy to listen to and watch. I learned a lot.

Hi. I’ve been using the Sennelier pastels and oil sticks for a long time. They work very well on fabric and can be fixed by ironing, after leaving to cure for a couple of days. I am glad you put your demo onto KZfaq as I am in Australia and would have to get up in the middle of the night to watch ‘live’.

This was brutally awesome to watch! I've learned a hell lot here. 31:11 using that knife to shape the cloudy sky was fantastic. 59:30 the entire urban-sketching style can be called representational abstraction 😁 Thank You so much sharing this video.

is the Sennelier Oil Pastel Fixative a workable fixative? In other words, after spraying and waiting to dry, can I still work on the painting?
@AboveGroundArtSuppliesToronto
@AboveGroundArtSuppliesToronto 11 ай бұрын
Yes, you can. But the effect won't be the same. Your work after the fixative will layer on top instead of interacting with the previous layer (under the fixative). The Sennelier fixative also leaves a clear, glossy film to protect your work. Something to consider. Always worth experimenting to find out what you like! ☺

How do you varnish an oil pastel? You mentioned varnishing an oil pastel. What does that do to the painting? I started using oil pastels almost a year ago now and absolutely love them! Thank you ❤

Hi Laura! Varnishing oil pastel artwork is not a common practice because oil pastels do not fully dry like other traditional painting mediums such as oil or acrylic paints. Instead, you can use fixative Spray, we carry Sennelier's Spray Fix (store.abovegroundartsupplies.com/products/sennelier-d-artigny-oil-pastel-sprayfix---400ml-103651.html). You can also frame your artwork behind glass or acrylic to protect it from dust, dirt and physical damage. Make sure your artwork does not touch the glass or acrylic. :)

May I add that the Sennellier fixative gives a definite gloss effect, which I’m not keen on. I prefer to have a matte and a glass frame to hand, so I can mount it right away.

Hi Mary, Andrew discusses fixative at 38:29. If this is not the information you are looking for, please let us know the timestamp where the varnish is mentioned, we will recommend varnishes suited for what you are looking for. :)

No offense but you don't rub Sennelier on a surface so roughly. You're wasting the pigment. Sennelier needs to be handled delicately, unlike any regular oil pastel. You loaded the surface with that green sennelier. Those pastels are full of pigment. Only a smidge is enough to cover a whole area. 🤦

This does make them look very wasteful. I won't be spending my money on these since they don't seem to go too far at all.

Sennelier is not wasteful. I've been using them for years. It's just the way it's being used here...@@JCcreates927

@@JCcreates927 @DeshArt Hi! Mixing other oil pastel brands with Sennelier is common practice for oil pastel artists. Sennelier oil pastels are full of pigment and so buttery, it is a dream to work with. Definitely worth having a couple on hand when creating special artworks. Art supplies are never wasted, only when it is not being used. 🧡

If he is selling the stuff then he would have a vested interest in encouraging people to use too much and waste it.
