OIL Pressure Gauge for 1989 Harley Sportster.
An Oil Pressure gauge is essential on any Harley or other motorcycle. The oil pressure 'idiot light' tells you that there is a problem after the engine already suffered damage from low oil pressure. An oil pressure gauge can often warn you of an oil pressure or oil pump problem when the problem is first starting. This way you can catch the oil pressure problem earlier and prevent costly engine damage. The oil pressure gauge I'm using is an excellent quality oil pressure gauge made by Auto meter. This oil gauge is liquid filled and the oil pressure gauge is also rubber mounted for a easy to read oil pressure reading. You want to use a liquid filled oil pressure gauge to withstand the vibrations and also for easy reading of the oil pressure. There are several option on where and how to mount the oil pressure gauge. I choose to mount this Auto meter oil pressure gauge on the inside of the left highway peg. This particular oil gauge mounting has worked well for me and I have been using this setup for 26 years. I merely am replacing an existing oil pressure gauge that is over 25 years old (still works) but the plastic face of the gauge is now yellow and cracked from age. The replacement auto meter gauge has a white face with black numbers and a red needle and is an easier to read oil pressure gauge than many of the others sold on the motorcycle parts market.
