Had the dreaded no oil pressure on my idiot gauge, replaced the sender after driving off a particularly nasty bridge on the local beltway. I was pretty certain it was the sender as the gauge bounced around. My wj did not die then lol. It wasn't hard to find nor change! New sender showed all was good!

If I don’t start my jeep for a few days, the oil pressure gauge works great. But when I start it every day, it hasn’t worked for six months. And this is on I said the year that’s only two years old. Definitely going to use this multimeter testing technique. Thanks again for a great video and Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

Perhaps the reason why that some guys suggest having to take the oil filter out is so that they can positively be able to see whether some grease and dirt could get directly in the way of you being able to thread up the new replacement sensor with the potential of getting a grease plug stuck into the delivery tube (threaded tube). I really don't see any harm in that though and I would do the same. Basically you have to: Degrease all of oil filter housing where the oil pump lives (on some of the older models) If I remember correctly on my 1968 AMC Javelin 343 cu.in. the oil pump housing was totally external in the same vicinity of the oil filter. So yeah, irregardless, degrease as should be, then remove the filter because you are definitely going to have to be able to see what the hell that you're looking at and certainly before attempting to thread in the new or used part!! So, I couldn't possibly rag on these guys that say so to do things properly. As for myself, my eyes just aren't as good as they used to be and for me, I would absolutely insist on the degreasing measure and get that oil filter out of the way of my peepers! I want to see exactly such things as whether a gob of grease is about to hit me in the eyes or whatever! And so it just might also behoove yah to also change your oil and filter while you're at it but not mandatory. You have some good information flowing and for demonstration purposes, it's just good all the way around but surely, I would not bust on these guys for an equally good call, oh no, not one bit! Sometimes new cats learn good stuff from other pros too! Some people have the absolute full confidence of changing of the sensor without the extra added steps but hey now, it's a matter of preference equal to a desired outcome without further troubles is how I see it! Good job there D&E!! Maybe I should have you change mine out on my 03 Grand Cherokee 4.7 because I am just now beginning to hate the damnedable thing with all of it's gremlins just a popping up all over the damned place! Although I do love my Jeep as I love to hate it too! It's a love/hate relationship a goin on!!!

In case of dirt around any type of sensor use brush and some gasoline in small container to clean it up - make sure the engine is cold and no smoking around the car. Then use air from compressor to clean up the area around sensor, eventually spray the area with water hose and let it dry or use paper towels to dry it manually. This way you get clean space around sensor and clean old sensor as well. In hard to get spaces use a small mirror to see how it looks like. Pull out the old sensor and install a new one without taking anything else apart - taking oil filter out makes additional mess plus oil has to be added to the engine. But it's your own choice.

Had a weird issue with my 2000 wj with the 4.0, on colder days the oil pressure would read 80psi while running, and my 4.7 02 wj had a issue with the sensor just saying 0psi randomly at idle and would come back up to around 40 while driving, new sensors fixed both wj’s

Just replaced oil pressure sensor on my 2002 WJ with the 4.0. Never did a bunch test before installing it. Oil pressure gage still shows zero pressure. Not sure what is my next move yet 🤔

Check the plug and the wiring right off the plug. Sometimes the wiring or plug itself will get damaged or so dirt from oil spills (it is right there around the filter) that it isnt making a good connection. Look for easy stuff first

Sr, first of all, thank you for all good content that you have created, it is really helpful for us folks that love this jeeps. I have a question that I don't know if you have a video on it, but I couldn't find it. I recently got a ZJ, and I'm trying to figure it out the source of a noise that I'm having when driving over 60mph. It seems like a wheel bearing going out sound, but the strange part is when I push gas and accelerate, the noise seems to disappear. When ever I leave gas and just moving over 60mph the bearing sound goes back. Typically in wheel bearing in my experience it is not related to gas only speed. I'm really in the beginning of the 4x4 world so don't know shit yet. Hard to diagnoses. Hope you know something that could help me figure it out! Thanks a lot.

Sounds like driveshaft or blind bearing in transfer case that your front driveshaft goes too. That was the case for mine. I just took out the front drive shaft and noise is gone.

Wow ... thank you! for posting on the oil pressure sensor. My 2000 4.0 has good pressure but... when warm at idle the gauge will drop to nothing and check gauges light comes on. I replaced the oil pressure sensor and worked for a month or so. Started to miss read again. Took it to a "jeep" mechanic and told him it had a new sensor and to look deeper. Well they changed the sensor at 158.00. Worked for a short time and problem returned. Just driving it now but do not like that the issue is still and "issue".

@@DEInTheGarage I had the same exact issue. Oil pressure gauge would drop at idle after engine gets HOT(like highway driving for a while). Replaced the sensor twice. No change. Strange thing is that putting a quart of Lucas in during an oil change, seems to have "fixed" the issue. Have done it for the past 5 oil changes and tried without Lucas last year, and the problem came back.

Logically speaking. Oil pressure sensor is an extra toy that lets you know about oil pressure in the system , which is usually sealed (no leak). It helps to recognize the problem due to leak of oil or no oil in the system. But if oil level is normal (no leak) and the oil sensor is acting up then its a sensor problem only and the car can still run normal like in the old times without all the electronics.

My 2003 also has a tad more miles while approaching 179K and you can just about find all the failure points of these vehicles because Chrysler/Jeep dun screwed up when they started selling off just about the complete entirety of these vehicles to all these other companies that know how to screw the pooch, big time and just have the customers bleed like stuck pigs or in other words bleed money all the way to the bank and straight out of their pockets for the insurmount- able expenses for repairs at the dealerships, for shame, for shame for selling out the U.S. too these idiot conglomerates!!! And so the 2nd Jeep that I've owned in a lifetime, it's been yet another downtrodden experience. My first Jeep, (NEW) was a 1986 Cherokee Sport and it was riddled with problems right from the get go! In that transition Chrysler/Jeep had been sold off to Daimler and believe it or not the deciding factor of trying to get some major issues with the engine repaired prompted me to have to call from Germany to the States and threaten to sue their sorry @$$e$ in the tune of the entire net worth of the vehicle if they so choose not to replace the 2.4 liter engine that decided to knock like a diesel engine sounds. The warranty claims (AM General Inspector) said that there was nothing wrong with it and so I told him to his face to get down to the ground and listen to the bottom of the engine to hear all of the knocking that was taking place and so he refused! Secondly, I also told him that he could be replaced!! (Army Style) being replaced!! And so when I called Chrysler Corporate U.S. offices, I told them what the vehicle inspector told my wife on the first try and secondly what the inspector told me and so I immediately blew a GD gasket and let them have it right in their ear and right in the old kisser!!! So, I have never bought another new vehicle ever again nor will I EVER!!! Oh and the vehicle with all of it's problems did get repaired in the tune of about $7,400 bucks but when I returned to the States more problems ensued after the fact. AND furthermore, I got that a-hole AM General Inspector (Contracted / Contractor to our Military) absolutely fired! Do I ever regret that, oh hell no!! I just love raising some hell when appropriate and boy I can send it! Mama didn't raise no fool and they got blasted with fire and fury, Army Cannon or Artillery like style and that is the way that just about anyone can deliver if it would only seem that some company is trying to deliver a bill of goods and not services for their screw-ups! As it would only turn out, this 2.4 liter engine was one of about three hundred that made it out of the factory with under sized pistons and two lifters that also decided to collapse. So who knew that I would be on the receiving end?? Who knew?

You will appreciate this… nothing like doing a terrible job, finishing up.. starting the vehicle for the first time.. dang.. forgot a vacuum line.. let’s see where it is, ahhh found it…. Wait why is the valve train rattling now?? Let me go shut this thing down… wait why is there a puddle of oil on the ground !!!!! ffffduuuuuddddggggggeeeee !!!! It’s perfectly normal for a motor that holds 5qts to take 4 1/2 right ????? Right ????? Me after doing valve cover gaskets on a Highlander with a v6…. Apparently I rolled the rear gasket installing it and within a min or two she pumped herself dry. Nothing like having to a terrible job again.. hoping the entire time the motor is ok (it was). F- Do not recommend

Oh dear lord bud. That sounds like a TOUGH way to go, but we have all been there. I think one bad job like that will take a lot of Shade Trees out and leave them wandering to the Stealership or local hack shop instead of attempting to "KZfaq-It". Good on-ya for making it right though! I know a lot of guys who would have called the tow truck and admitted defeat.

@@DEInTheGarage not gonna lie the idea did cross my mind more then once…. Captain hindsight was in full effect wanting to punch an engineer in the face for some of their choices…. My final thoughts on the matter was in the early 2000’s Toyota had their top minds working on the Prius project… the glue sniffers were figuring how to cram a V6 into a Highlander.
