Story time ! [transphobic mother] In the car one night, my mother just stopped be from getting out and showed me this thing on Facebook about how “transwomen are taking away what the word woman means”. I just looked at her and said “how r they taking it away?” And she said “because they are!” And I said “ok, how?” And she was silent for awhile. She finally turned to me again and said “They’re taking MY women hood away! I don’t want to meet with someone and have to tell them I don’t have a penie” and I said “well don’t then? They don’t have to know that information anyway? And if you’re that worried about it, just tell them your a cis-woman, not what’s in your pants?” Then she started getting mad saying “Again with this cis stuff! I don’t wanna be called a “cis woman” and I want to be a woman! And so I shut her up by giving the point of “yea, well trans woman don’t want to be called a “trans-woman” they want to be called a woman, but people like you aren’t allowing that. And it’s also people like you who get mad that we separated cis and trans women with names, EVEN THO THATS WHAT U ASKED FOR. I’m a man mother, I don’t want you and others to call me “trans-man” I just want u to call me a man- but you won’t do that, will you?” And she shut tf up.

Yeah, usually when someone is mentioning their agab it is to say something relevant about their experience. How we are socialized (either as boys or girls) has a huge impact on us, so mentioning your agab is relevant information about your experience, even if it was not the correct gender (or in some nonbinary cases only correct partially or part of the time). Using 'dead-gender' doesn't say the same thing that you would be trying to convey by sharing your agab in most cases. (Although I guess it could be used as a synonym of how I've been using 'agab', without being specific.)

I'm a trans guy and in my college I introduced myself with my preferred name and pronouns. But was still struggling a bit with it. one of the days we had an online class on zoom and beforehand I was changing my dead name and noticed you can add pronouns. So I did. and it became much less stressful to remind someone who got my pronouns wrong. Later I found out how they all had a meeting after and talked about my pronouns. Aperantly they made extra sure to not get it wrong and that everyone knew my correct pronouns. It was the most hear warming thing I ever had to know how much they supported me. Coming out of highschool I was scared of the world but they showed me that the world was the exact opposite of what I thought it was. thank you firends. and thank you to all the people that use the right pronouns for people and correct others. it means a lot.

Fun fact: The ancient greeks viewed Dionysus, who had been disguised as a girl to hide him from Hera growing up, as the patron saint of trans people. They also believed that trans people occurred because Apollo would sometimes create people with the wrong genitals when drunk. Considering that Dionysus is also the god of alcohol, what's this say about their relationship?
@Missingno_Miner

I mean... most of the Greek gods(specifically the gods, the goddesses were mostly straight with a few who could be interpreted as aro/ace) were pretty explictly bi/pan and incredibly horny. Apollo is part of that "most" What you're implying is probably completely accurate.

I actually half finished a project in greek/roman art history on this glass skyphos that featured iconography of the cult of Dionysus, and there was so much (not even overt) gender queer stuff I found along the way that I can probably contribute like at least 35% of my gradual awakening to that project alone. Honestly the reason I gave up on it was because I couldn't figure out how to order and compress all info I'd learned about the cult's and the god's relation to gender, societal roles, life, etc. I was also very emotionally overwhelmed in the most livening way. Sorry to ramble.

They also have a myth that explains why some desire men and other desire women (it's called the origin of love, if I remember correctly) The Ancient Greeks may have been extremely patriarchal, but in some ways they still managed to be more accepting than most countries today...
@brothersandsistersofvalhalla
@brothersandsistersofvalhalla Жыл бұрын
@@lampekartoffel It is often overstated how patriarchal their societies were. It did have some instances of men being viewed better over women but a lot of articles overhype that for the views and clicks. It wasn't nearly as simple as men over women. Sparta even had a warrior queen in charge at one point.

As an asexual, I find it very interesting that when two skeletons were discovered to have been embracing during a major disaster, the immediate conclusion was "lovers," and when it was determined that they were both female, they were further classified as "lesbians." Like. If my town explodes, that could be me and my sister or me and my afab sibling, or me and my female best friend, holding onto and comforting each other as we die. I mean, why does every image of love have to be assumed to be a sexual or romantic relationship? Love is so much more than that. I love a lot of people very deeply, and I have no romantic or sexual interest in any of the people I love.

Honestly well put, love doesn't mean what so many people think it means and love is not physical attraction, imo it's smth deeper and more sacred that doesn't need physical attraction to exist, it transcends that nonsense. In the context of that archeological discovery though, we can't actually really say which with nothing else but the two skeletons to go off of, other then they clearly had some sorta connection, though it'd be neat if there was any hard evidence for either way
@DelinahLovesHouseBunnies
@DelinahLovesHouseBunnies Жыл бұрын
Excellent point, @floatingeyeballs44. If I ended up with a total stranger as we died in a disaster, we would probably be hugging, comforting each other and ourselves, simply as two fellow human beings with empathy and a need for connection as members of a social species. When I first read this story, I thought, "How do they know that they were lovers?" Archaeologists love to paint a story, and that can help some people relate to humans from the distant past, but there are so many other possibilities (including a wealthy woman embracing her female slave; maybe she was even abusive and horrible to the slave, but, at the moment of death, they both preferred the comfort of hugging another human). They shouldn't jump to conclusions. In research papers, there's a section where the authors are required to discuss all the other possible interpretations and acknowledge the unknowns, but popular media loves to oversimplify and portray findings in sensationalized ways that raise their ratings and make them more money. This is antithetical to educating the public. One of the myriad problems with capitalism. We need communalism; we need to structure society to reward greed as little as possible. But that's another subject. ////Bunny kisses for all!

Another ace here. The whole joke is historical lgbt erasure from cismale straight white historians, especially when it comes to women/lesbians in history. The fact is we'll never know if it was a couple, family members, friends, or complete strangers embracing each other in their final moments so all theories are valid. But classic historians have a habit of assume heterosexual couple as default then the moment the pairing is two men or two women the assumption is friends or family members no matter how much evidence to the contrary slaps them in the face. So they could be friends, but that's not the joke or the point being made about lgbt erasure.

I think something a lot of people need to hear and think about is that they shouldn't worry about how they present to the world. You could be a very feminine person, but you're no less of a man than if you were to be masculine. You shouldn't worry about how OTHERS see you.. Because in the short lives we have, it's not something to stick your heads on. You can have an outward appearance of anything you want, but still be considered a certain gender even if you aren't outwardly that gender. This is something a friend taught me a while back. It doesn't matter what other people think, it's what YOU are comfortable with that matters. If you want to be super masculine go for it! If you want to be feminine do it! But what you shouldn't do ever is conform to what OTHER people think you should be. If you are AFAB but you're trans masc then I support you in any way you want. If you want to do all these things that make you look more masculine then go ahead. But don't do it just because people say you should. Do it if it makes you happy. Love you all, and if anyone sees this I hope this helps in any way possible. TLDR: Do what makes you happy, not what others want you to do

Context: I'm a trans masculine enby. I talked on the phone to a friend I haven't talked to in years the other day. He said "you sound different, your voice is deeper" and I was so happy because my voice gives me so much dysphoria and I try to talk deeper, but I can't do it subconsciously, and I'm usually too focused on other stuff to do it consciously. "Oh really?" I said excitedly. "Yeah, you sound like a woman now" -_-... yeah my day was kinda ruined at that point.

11:04 Can confirm. In fact, given the prevalence of autism in the trans community, it's probably best, in the absence of familiarity with the trans person, to just assume that any plans you make with that person will entail only the agreed-upon activity in its most literal sense; and that the activity will continue for precisely the agreed-upon amount of time, or for the amount of time required to complete the activity, whichever is shorter.

I've heard that before, the whole "if you think you're faking, you're not" think but I don't think that always applies. I've struggled with my identity all my life (gender and otherwise) and once I came to the conclusion I'm a trans woman, started presenting femme all the time at home and in public, ive never felt like I was faking it. I've never felt like just a guy in womens clothes. It just feels that right and natural to me, like if anything I'm righting a lifelong wrong. It's cathartic in a way. And this is coming from someone who habitually second guesses and overthinks practically everything I do. I'm 31 and a little over a week into hrt. I'm lucky enough to be in a very supportive environment at home and even at work, and I hope everyone can find that. Stay strong and follow your heart

Omg, the archeologist expert at the end was the best part of this video. It made my day. I want to go read those other articles they mentioned. Also, I keep imagining that 1000 years in the future, humans will evolve beyond transphobia and trans ness it will just be more commonplace. It’s bizarre to think of a future in 1000 years on this planet where humans are still arguing over “what is a man?” That’s like saying that gay couples who are buried together will be viewed as “just roommates” if they are dug up in 1000 years … instead of the wild possibility that maybe in 1000 years, ppl will cease to care if a relationship is same or opposite gender (or no gender at all) and just admit the obvious fact that they are a couple. Sheesh.

I've only been watching this channel for a month or two, but I cruised older videos. If I remember correctly, he called The Click to have him pronounce it on speakerphone. The same with the bear. I just remember OT asking "Hey Click, how do you pronounce this?" and beginning to spell it out then halfway through Click's confusion dissipates and he cuts OT off, "Oh. Is this the IKEA thing? 🤨" OT: "Yeah!" Click: (🙄 < obvious in his tone) "It's 'bla-ha'..." OT repeats it back. Click repeats and says yep that's right. OT thanks him and goes to proceed with the video and Click's reaction is basically "That's *it?* That's all you called me for?" --- I remember it so distinctly because the exchange and reaction was just so hilarious to me.

(Click seems in a pretty good mood but then does like a sigh because he's being asked to pronounce something again.) OT: "[Starts with first few letters] then there's an o but there's like... Dots on top?" (Click obviously sees this as an opportunity for mischief) "well topicy wopiky, I'm *just not sure* - how many dots do you see?" @corvidchaos-19 Hi! Yes I feel alot better (besides not being able to sleep amd it being 4am where I live lol) the scars healed up pretty nicely, and I even went swimming for the first time again around 2 months ago and have swum publicly about 4 times now. It was definitely strange being able to walk topless in public haha.

Im jealous of the people that know what their pronouns are, whether their out or not. I got so tired of people online asking for my pronouns or arguing with my online friends about what my pronouns were based off of what I put in my bio and the way my voice sounds, so I just replaced my pronouns with "IDGAF STOP ASKING ME" in those exact words. I've honestly gotten tired of gender, so I just use they/them for everyone unless I'm told otherwise, and as I said earlier, call me whatever the f you want cause I don't care.

I've recently had some gender queer related conversations in a few online groups I'm in. Identity you probably haven't heard of, but we agree should be known by more people. Gender Casual. It's a bit like a mix of gender fluid and agendered. Basically, you don't experience gender disphoria regardless of sex or gender expression, but desire having the option to change your gender at will. Gender Casual people also tend to have partial to complete indifference to being referred to by any particular set of pronouns UNLESS there is obvious intent to misgender.

Sounds like Gender Apathetic but instead of not caring if you switched you want the gender remote yourself. I love it.

I love this! I'm pretty sure I fall into Gender Apathetic myself, as the line about "indifference to pronouns" unless obvious malicious intent is involved is 100% me, but the only time I've intentionally let people believe I was the wrong gender was to be left alone while playing an online videogame lol

THIS! This is me!!! I usually use the labels Agender and Genderqueer, interchangeably, to describe myself, but that definition of Gender Casual pretty much 100% describes my connection to my gender! 😄 (The only thing different is that I do have some minor chest dysphoria, and I do want top surgery to alleviate that, but otherwise, everything else is spot on! 😊)

I studied biology and we once had skeletons from 1400 or so and had to determine based on that wich sex they had. Turned out it was hard or impossible and they graded us only based on how we followed all the steps and writing down what we measured etc.
