there isn't a SINGLE bad song in this show. i'm SO utterly bitter at netflix that they never gave us a second season because they deserved so much better and i'll NEVER understand why it got cancelled bc it was super popular and got in the netflix's top 10 so many times bc the cast would do livestreams where they'd watch it together and ask ppl to watch along with them. there were so many petitions to renew it and still we only found out it had been cancelled at a convention. idk, i just think this show could've been something special if they gave it more of a chance.

I would like to mention that Julie (Madison Reyes) was 14(!!!) years old when they cast her. This was her first acting job and also the first time singing in front of an audience. This was recorded during covid and I think she was 16 when the show came out. There is also a behind the scenes show where Kenny Ortega just is so massively impressed by her talent and the fact that she is so young with no experience yet she blew all of their minds. She really is a gem. I would also like to add that they originally wanted to make Julie and Luke (Charlie) kiss at the end but due to her age and their age gap, decided against it which i absolutely love because that's not always common unfortunately. Charlie and Madison also wrote a song together (Perfect Harmony) and the actors had a lot of say in general when it comes to their characters and songs. I'm still so mad at Netflix for cancelling the show and for refusing to sell the rights to Kenny Ortega.

The casting process for this show was insane because they wanted to find a group of really great musicians who could play really well together. The idea was to have an actual band that could tour together but covid ruined that and then the show got cancelled 😢. But yes they are performing live and actually had input on the songs. There’s even a song in the show called Perfect Harmony that the two lead actors wrote themselves! Also the actress who plays Julie is only 15 in the show! 😱

Dude these actors are literally incredible, way more than you realise. All of them actually play all their instruments and recorded it for the show and the album which is why they match up perfectly. The lead actress Madison, was only 15 when she made the show and obviously _killed_ it. AND she and the lead actor who plays like the main phantom wrote an entirely original song together to put in the show as a surprise the director Kenny Ortega. And the song is AMAZING.

The way this was Madison’s first job and she was so fricking young, THE TALENT. And the show was so amazing and I hate Netflix so much for destroying our dreams for more seasons, a tour, and more songs 😭😭 Also, a kind warning: If you plan to react to any of Cheyenne's performances and Unsaid Emily next time... call your therapist, just trust me :)

Dude I miss this show so much....I can't believe it's never getting a second season. I love all the songs in Julie and The Phantoms. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. And don't even get me started with Unsaid Emily. My eye turned into waterfalls halfway through Edit: *Matthew if you don't react to the rest of the songs I swear to god.* Trust me. I'm pretty sure Unsaid Emily makes every single person bawl their eyes out. It's a very beautiful yet honestly heartbreaking song...

i absolutely adored this show!! it's a shame we were robbed of a second season :( i really wanted their stories to develop and i would have absolutely loved if they told us more about their lives before forming the band

So essentially Kenny Ortega, the director of High School Musical and Descendants, was the executive producer of this show and directed the majority of the episodes. Julie is the only person who can see the boys except for when they all perform together as a band aka Julie and The Phantoms. The reason it looks like they’re playing their instruments is because they are actually performing lol; Kenny thought it important that they were an actual band. Please please do a part 2 to this!

The reason the vocals don’t sound super processed is because I’m like 90% sure all of the singing and playing was done live on the set. And you can kind of tell when there’s melodically differences with what you hear in the show vs what you hear in the actual soundtrack

11:20 it’s so cool that you mentioned the attention to detail to syncing up the instruments with the prerecorded songs! The characters were casted with the intention of them being able play the actual instruments, so they could basically be a real band inside and outside of the show!

PART 2 PART 2! I agree that every song in this doesn't feel like a "show" song, and is actually a legitimate good song. I wish they could keep producing JATP music because I just want to listen to it! For Part 2, I recommend: Wake Up (Julie Solo, the first time you hear her sing in the series and it's just magical) Perfect Harmony (Julie + Luke Duet, also sure to confuse you even more) Unsaid Emily (Luke Solo, bring your tissues) Stand Tall (Finale song, a banger, and a song that showcases the entire band's voices)

Can we all agree that Unsaid Emily is one of the saddest hits.

Context for the show: The boys (the Phantoms) were in a band and they were going to perform at the Orpheum, this famous concert hall. They went out to eat before the show, they took hot dog from a man who was doing them on his car, and they died because of food poisoning. They reappear years later, like 20-25 iirc, because of this girl, Julie. Julie is a teenager who lost her mom last year and since then, lost the want to sing. The boys will help her find music again and the will form a group named Julie and the Phantoms. The guys are dead, so they're ghosts and Julie can see them every time, while the other people can only see and hear them when they're performing. For everyone, it's Julie and her weird holograms 😂

Also, all of the actors actually play the instruments their characters do, which is why it looks so good.

So upset that this show was canceled it became a comfort show during covid. Cant wait to see you react to the other songs

This show really wasn’t taken as seriously as it should have been because of the cheesy plot line made for kids but the music is out of this world. Its all about the small details that you picked up on. The fact that 3/4 of the lead actors are actually amazing musicians in real life brings this show to the next level. I wish I could’ve seen a season 2😭

I really recommend watching the whole show (even if it isn't for YT), the story is a lot of fun, the music is absolutely amazing, the actors are super talented and all the characters are really likeable. It's a real shame that we don't have more seasons

Watching the behind the scenes extras that they released about the casting and rehearsing for this show are a great watch. You see how much practice they put in so they could really perform together live and get the chemistry of a real band

so, basically, the three boys were in a band but died, and now years later Julie found an old record or cd of theirs, played it, and they appeared as phantoms. Julie's the only one who can see them (don't know why) but people can hear their music when they play and see them when they play with Julie, hence why they magically appear in some songs, and no one but Julie sees them in All Eyes On Me (her friend knows about them). Julie plays them off as holograms. This show is honestly amazing; its emotional, it's realistic, the plot and storyline, the characters, the visuals and outfits/costumes, the songs are FANTASTIC AND EVERYONES VOICES ARE FABULOUS, and it's just really happy and vibey and a great show, and IM SO UPSET IT WAS CANCELLED but yea, definitely recommend to anyone and everyone PS u should listen to "Now or Never" Unsaid Emily" "Other Side of Hollywood" "You got nothing to lose" "Flying Solo" and "Perfect Harmony", know that's like most of the songs, but there honestly amazing

All members of the band can sing amazingly (seen mainly in ‘Now or Never’ ‘Stand Tall’ and ‘This Band Is Back), but since Luke was the original main singer in the band and Julie is also a singer, they get the most lines :) Reggie (the bassist, played by Jeremy Shada) has my favourite voice personally and I really wish we could of gotten a season 2 with a song with him on lead vocals.

Julie and the phantoms came out in about 2020 but they’re production stopped because they weren’t getting enough money for it to be smart to continue filming it. I would definitely watch it over and over again because I loved it.

Now we need him reacting the rest of the songs so we watch him suffer with Unsaid Emily 😀

The first song you hear her sing in the show, Wake Up is honestly one of my favorites. It’s an uplifting song, but bittersweet because it was a song her mom wrote for her before she passed. It’s also just amazing.

So they did sing these songs live on set (Julie and the phantoms, not the girl group) and kenny intended for them to go on tour after the release of the show but couldn't cause covid 🥲 also Kenny directed a lot of things. High school musical. Cheetah girls 2 AND hocus pocus. He's also a fabulous choreographer. ***also the guitar riff in edge of great was improv. It's not in the studio recording and it makes the song so much better than it already is

To give a basic rundown. Julie is the only one who can see/hear em alone w/o playing music. Everyone else can see/hear then WHEN they're playing music (they pop up when they play, and disappear when they stop). I love how the Phantom actors literally how to play and sing healthily for this.

‘Now or never’, ‘wake up’, and ‘unsaid Emily’ are my absolute favourite songs from this show! If you do another vid on this, definitely recommend hearing these

actually, the actors and actresses, are actually playing the instruments live when it's being filmed, and I'm also convinced that they're singing live too, in the song "Bright" you can hear a slight I guess you could call it a "crack" in Julie's voice at the lyric "We will fight to shine together" when the guys all appear, but then when you listen to the official soundtrack during that song, there's no "crack" in her voice in the recorded version. So I believe they were also singing live when recording because of details like that. When I noticed that the first time when watching the show, when I went and added the soundtrack to a playlist I listened to see if I heard that crack and I didn't so I'm convinced that they sing live too, since the main band doesn't do any dancing or anything really. Now the girls in dirty candy might not be singing live just for that fact that they dance and without the proper training it'd be hard to make the vocals sound stable while singing live while dancing. I mean we see kpop idols dance and sing live but that's because they're trained to be able to do that. Edit: all the actors and actresses are all actually musicians outside of the show too, not just in the show but they all actually play these instruments and sing outside of the show so they're all actually musicians

For Context: Julie is the only one who can fully see the 3 boys. The only time others can see them, are when they all sing/perform! Julie plays this off by saying they are boys out of state/country and they are Holograms (The only person who knows they are ghosts/phantoms is her Bestfriend Flynn (the one who was standing next to them in the 1st song) FunFact : This is Madison Reyes( Julie) First acting EVER! They also are actually playing while doing the performing scenes and if not, they actually do know how to play the instruments! something i also find noteworthy and that i find incredibly cute in edge of great, there's a moment where luke tries to get julie to look at him (or like walk over to him, the sentiment still stands) and when she doesn't, he starts pouting to the point where the other boys look at him like "bro what'd you do???" and then in the part where he matches the guitar to her voice he walks over to her and she looks at him and smiles and suddenly he's all smiley and happy again

I don’t know if its been said before but you were spot on about the actors actually playing the instruments. All of the actors are also musicians that can play their instruments irl. Especially Charlie Gillespie (plays luke, the main guitarist) who even worked together with Maddison Reyes (plays Julie) to write an extra song for the show (perfect harmony)

I've rewatched this show so many times now. I will never get tired of it. A lot of songs with music in them always have a "weak" song but I just love every single one in this show and I really hope you get to react to the rest of them!

Quick idea of the show: Julie meets the ghosts of an up-and-coming band that died fifty years ago. She’s the only person able to see them as they navigate accomplishing the dream they set out for fifty years ago. In the process they help her come out of her shell and together they all thrive. Julie can see them whenever they’re together, but onlookers are only able to see them while they’re playing their music.
