This was on Ed Sullivans show and he wouldnt allow Elvis to be filmed from the waist down, American establishment values were very uptight back then but things changed pretty quick when everyone on TV saw how many viewers Elvis was pulling in -

This was Mohamed Ali s favorite song,they were friends. I believe Otis redding wrote this song. They wouldn't let him gyrate,grateful, said it was too vulgar.

Actually, the cameraman wasn’t allowed to show his legs. It’s why he threw in so many facial expressions and did so much with his hands. Also, why he waited until the very end of the song, he was told to reign it in or they would cut to commercial. Elvis was too much for the adults to handle. This is how Hollywood found out that sex sells. I adore your comments about Elvis… King Kong has nothing on Elvis is now one of my favorite phrases.

@@ElvisRose_ In a few interviews and from on stage in August of 1969 he states that he had no idea what was transpiring until afterwards. He wasn't told to knock it off or anything.

@@timcarr6401 Thanks! I have never seen that… oh, how I wish Elvis had been able to tell his own story. Although, not showing him just turned him into more of a forbidden fruit for TV audiences. It’s one of my all time favorite Elvis performances.
